Dave,Luv how you built the Signal Box into the wall, with all the interior design ,ie track diagram,it looks fantastic. Your attention to detail is 1st class.
Thanks James. Glad you enjoyed it. A lot has developed since I did that video. Check out my later vids…but I really must do another layout tour. :-) cheers. Dave
A wonderful idea Dave, explaining what you've already done. Once again, your attention to detail is outstanding, and clearly shows why your layout looks so realistic in all respects....I never fail to be totally impressed by everything you do Dave....truly excellent work...Best wishes from West Wales ....Bob
+Robert Masterman Hi Bob, yeah I thought it was time to give a summary of what I have done and what I plan to do. If nothing else I can refer to these videos to remind myself of what I want to do (before I forget!) in the future. Thanks for your kind words once again. Dave
Dave, A wonderful overview of a great layout. You have produced a true work of art that is a great interpretation of the world we are all trying to model. Well done.
I am not a model railway builder or even a fan really, but my god this is impressive. Looking forward to watching your other videos and the development of your 'line'. The joy of RUclips
Hi Steven, that's really good of you to say so and thanks for getting in touch. Please watch my other videos and I look forward to hearing more of your comments. Cheers. Dave
Thanks for the tour. As a recent subscriber really appreciated that. Great layout. Love the Signal Box . As you say easily recognisable from Waverley . Aspects of Queen Street too. Really nice.
+Russell Benton Hi, its my pleasure and I hope you can continue to watch my progress. Its really nice to get new subscribers who take the time to post comments, so thank you. Queen Street is another station I love, especially as its sunk down with high retaining walls and lots of character - its getting ripped apart just now to make way for electrification and all the platforms are being lengthened etc. I am sure it will look great once completed. All the best. Dave
Just had to comment on this, when I saw your comment, it was 47 mins ago for me at the time, and Daves channel is called DaveClass47, after the BR Class 47. Lol
Hi Dave, Just looking back over the years that you have uploaded on YT, great tour of the layout, it as helped to understand what lines go where now, and can see the bigger picture of the excellent layout that you have built up over the years. 👍Thumbs up 👍
Hi Jamie, thanks for all your comments. I just uploaded a brand new update for 2019, as a lot has progressed since this particular update ;-) Cheers. Dave
Well happy to say I watched this on U Tube in 720hd. Brilliant video Dave, absolutely Love your Layout, it's one of my Favourites. Love your attention to detail and your modelling skills. Love them Backscenes, fabulous. As you can tell I am playing catch up, slightly behind with my viewing, so looking forward to part 2, which I shall watch now. lol. That's the beauty of being behind, I get to watch a few episodes one after the other, so don't have to wait a week for the next one, if that makes any sense. lol. Anyway, many thanks for sharing. Kind regards. John.
+John Bennett Hi John, so glad you enjoyed that. I will hopefully have another update later this month for you to enjoy. Cheers and thanks for supporting my channel. Dave
that is a signal house ,, oh wow and all this time I thought a restaurant or something ,, still has to be my favorite building , ever , on any layout , just looks amazing , , , to wire the line can you use thread , coated with white glue to make it stiffer , and then string it , lots of guys do power lines that way , been watching you for awhile , very impressive layout ,, thanks for the tour ,
+sparky107107 But what a great restaurant it would be!! What a view! I'd have a coffee there any day. In fact, there was actual rumours that this actual building would open up as a café....which would have been brilliant for train lovers and tourists! Dave
Another great update on the layout and I too wouldn't speed £800 on some wire. One thought if your not looking to use the over wires to run the trains is that you could use some nylon fishing line cost would be a couple of quid for around 40 m of length which could give you the over head cables look on the layout.
Very impressive layout and skills Dave. Very inspirational for someone new like me joining the model railway arena, which shows just what can be achieved. I hope my layout, I am still at the beginning, will looks half as good as yours...Simon
Hello Dave, very nice layout you creating with a lot of very nice details. Good work. For the wires you can build them yourself as i do because of the cost. I buy 0,7mm en 0,5mm wire on a roll ( very cheap ) and made a model from wood where i put the wire in. You twist the wire so it will been straight and then i solder in the model together. The 0,7mm is the buttom one and the 0,5mm i use for the vertical and upper wire. It's very cheap way to build thoose wires. You can see it on my layout. Also build the mast myself from satay and cocktail sticks. Keep the good work, cheers from Onno
Excellent update Dave, can't blame you for not wanting to spend £800.00 + on that wire, i'd be the same, keep up the good work, Happy Modelling Regards Steve
Great stuff Dave! I've followed you from the very start but I still really enjoyed this video! I like what you have planned for the future. cheers, Joe.
Hi Dave I agree with you on the overhead wires. I experimented years ago and found it made rail cleaning and maintenance very hard to do without damaging them. The wire is very thin in reality so in 00 scale would hardly be visible anyway £800 is better spent on other things. Where you will place your level crossing. The signal there would be at the other side otherwise a train standing at the signal would block the road. Nice idea to give us a guided tour
+cedarcam Hi....about the signal, yes strictly you're correct, BUT...I could not access underneath to feed wires through, so it had to go the other side. Its a small compromise. I will put a sign up instructing the driver to wait before the crossing in the case of a red signal being displayed. ;-) Yeah wires are more hassle than they are worth, I see Peco have brought out their over head wires....very impressive items, at a very unimpressive cost! lol. Maybe ok for a small end to end layout, but my 20m oval....too much ££! Dave
+DaveClass47 Well that's the usual arrangement but there are always exceptions. I know of one signal like that and there will no doubt be others. I know coming in to Doncaster from the Leeds line trains often stop on the crossing. Last year our class 91 failed there and stood around 20 mins trapping a lorry as the crossing on the line from York was also closed with a train waiting there. I have not seen the Peco masts yet. I used the Dapol ones and plastruct girder to make some structures in the station area.
Great work Dave ,Jim from Invergeachy here. I play guitar and you could use B or e strings for the wires Tim Easter of Auchinrath uses this. It wont cost you Much. Good luck and keep up the good work, by the way whatever Happened to your Glasgow Queen street layout. I was following you on RM webb a couple of years back and it just vanished.
+fsr170409 Hi thanks for the tip! Also....I never started a Glasgow Queen Street layout, and never featured it on RM web lol. You mixing me up with someone else? ;-) Dave
Hi Dave, I love your layout! I was watching this video in the hopes that I would see your station concourse area with the buffet building, etc. I would like to see what you have there. Is there a video that shows how you've laid out that area? Cheers, Richard.
Here's a challenge for you then Dave... can't you make the overhead wires removable in big sections like your station canopy? Only joking... I think as with a lot of things when you are working to this scale, if you want to also keep the layout usable then you have to apply "modeller's licence" - for what it's worth, I think it looks spot on as it is
Paul Dovener couldn't agree more...modellers licence is a good thing! Some 'purists' will scoff at things 'we amateurs' do, but to be honest I just want to have fun running trains on a layout that looks real enough! ;-)
I'm happy enough just to have a single loop going round and round and use an over active imagination for the rest ;-) The one thing I think you have shown people is that Rome wasn't built in a day. The way you've done everything has been well thought out/planned, methodical, and you focus on one area at a time rather than bodging the whole layout. Most of the purists layouts I've seen seem to use the same brush they use on their garden fence as they do on their layout fences :-D And it pleases me to say, after a binge watching session today of your videos I finally found fault with your layout. :-D Your level crossing... I watched that video today, and the backscene rather spoils it - I was half expecting you to make a comment that you would be planning a tunnel for the road to disappear into, or some way of hiding or merging the backscene. (it's positive criticism btw, and more pointing it out to learn how you will tackle it, as I'm 99.9% certain you also have the same thoughts) i thought a tunnel entrance or small bridge with bushes and trees on the top to merge it in might do the trick.. but my guess is you probably will have a much better idea - and i think this is why you have such a good following, you seem to be able to think out of the box for things like this...
Hi, yes I agree with the level crossing...I am still deciding on it. I have seen some layouts where they've painted a black tunnel opening on the back scene....horrific!!! The prob with the adding a tunnel mouth is that it looks like its appeared from no where and has just been stuck on! Not an easy solution to this. Not at the top of my list of 'to do's'....lol
Hi Dave, really enjoyed the tour there is so much fine detail it looks beautiful!. Have you ever thought of using cotton thread as overhead wires? Best regards Gareth
Hi Dave, I have followed your layout from the beginning and really enjoyed the 2 tour videos. I find your attention to detail great and have used some of your ideas to help me build my own layout. I do have a question though, I notice you don't have any of the point and signal trunking going into the signal box. I Have laid the same trunking on my layout at one end of the station and when completed will do the other end where the signal box will be. I had intended to terminate all the trunking at and going into the signal box is this not correct? Not a criticism just a general question. Thanks Robin
+Milton Mo Junction Hi, I have going to the box, there are 't' pieces of trunking in front of the box, its just that the ballast doesn't allow you a clear view of it in this video, but they are there. I will try show them clearer next time. There will also be another 'control centre' somewhere that controls the signals and other turnouts...a more modern building....where I am not sure yet, but there will be one! lolThanks for your continued support of my channel, it is deeply appreciated and I enjoy reading all of the comments you post. Cheers. Dave
Great video Dave. However, a quick question about your station platform if that’s OK. How did you sort out the distance between the track and the platform edge? At the moment I’m making platforms in N gauge, but am having problems deciding how far they should sit from the track so they look realistic, but don’t foul the trains as they pass. Any suggestions?, cheers, Stewart.
+Stewart Fraser Push and pull your longest coach back and forth....to see if it clears the platform. I made up some test widths (out of an old bit of plywood) and tested things that way. I have some 'close calls' on my platforms as the track will never run 100% straight, so my gaps vary from about 3mm to 5-6mm. That's a good balance between realism while giving clearance at 00 gauge. Hope this helps? Dave
I have been looking at this station but kind of worried it's a bit difficult to build any advice for me in regards to building it up, did you do a video when you built it? Cheers jamie
Great video Dave, i have followed your videos from the start but it was still nice to go over everything again. Is Hitler still in the signal box? I didn't see him, lol! Cheers.......Howard.
+Stephen Nunn Yes, it can take a couple of hours (or more depending on the length of your video). Once you've done you video editing in the package of your choice (I use AVS video editor which cost me a one off payment of about £75) I just save it and then select the 'upload' tab in youtube, browse for the video file and start to upload....easy! Add some 'tags', a title and select 'monetisation' (so you get revenue from the ads on the screen) and you're good to go! Hope this helps!Dave
+Andrew Gordon In the vicinity....lol. Put it this way I aint in Edinburgh city, but to get there is a short train journey. Cheers and glad you love it, please feel free to share this video and comment on anything you like or don't like. Dave

Thanks a lot for the insight, Dave. Fabulous work! Here's an idea, why don't you use fishing line as overhead wire? 2-3lb should be dead on.
Hi, its all really about access for track cleaning etc...the wires will hinder that greatly, plus its very fiddly. Maybe one day lol. Dave
Here's a challenge for you then Dave... can't you make the overhead wires removable in big sections like your station canopy? Only joking... I used to use black thread for mast wires. Cheap and replaceable

+DaveClass47 okay thank you keep an eye out then might be uploading my first video at the weekend fingers crossed.
Stephen Nunn give me a shout when you do! Cheers.
hi could you do a video how to put signal lights in..thx mark..
Love it! Are you in Edinburgh?
+Andrew Gordon In the vicinity....lol. Put it this way I aint in Edinburgh city, but to get there is a short train journey. Cheers and glad you love it, please feel free to share this video and comment on anything you like or don't like. Dave
Shame that you can't get any old BR Scotrail electric suburban units.
+70 008Harry 1 I am sure some manufacturer will release them one day...after all all of the major locomotives etc have either already been tooled and released or are in the process of being designed! Cheers.
hi in one of you vids, you mentiond, you had some sensor,s in the track for the signal lights, what type are they..thx mark..
hi, they are Heathcote boards. google it. They are good. Dave
great cheers mark..
sorry dave for all the questions but I normaly use Hornby track, and now using peco, wanting to do double lane layout, think from centre 2 centre of the track is 63mmbut unsure wich peco turnouts to use to get the 63mm distance..thx mark..
hi..use a Peco 6ft guage, its a small cheap red thing that gives you guides to lay the track getting the correct spacing and making fitting turnouts between tracks easy. Cheer
Does that 101 say Norwich?
+GraphiteProjekt Yes, sadly it does...Bachmann released it that way....I wish they gave alternative destination blinds for it! Difficult to change them I would imagine! Dave
Yeah that would require some delicate surgery. I was just wondering though because I live in Norwich and it's unusual to see its name anywhere
Use Cotten died wire colour and looks as good cheep
can you ad more trains
Hi, check out my other videos....i have a lot more trains running in those. including my forthcoming running session. Cheers. Dave
Why only 360p?
+Erwin Peeters 360p?
+DaveClass47 Wauw weird, when i first openend the video i could only watch it in 360p but now it is HD, my bad, probably something went bad here at my side. Sorry, keep up the good videos, i really enjoy watching you build your layout
