Thanks for the reviews and all your help in all the boards I asked about. I ended up getting a 6.0 34.75 L Rad Ripper. I'm close to 6.1 188lbs. It's about 3/4 more L than my shortboard. And I'm happy I did it's just perfect for what I want it for, none then stellar LA beach break 2-4ft. Only had it two short sessions in 2-4ft. When I'm positioned just right, it's fantastic. But I'm battling a little the same as you having me front foot to far forward. . But sure it will adjust. Also, for some odd reasonIs have started to slip off the board on a few waves taking off back side... Ha ha Never normally happen so odd :) Like when losing a golf swing :) anyone experienced that on a new board? Again I'm sure it will sort itself out once my footing has tightened up. Again thanks! I have a friend who rides his rad ripper as an FCS quad, and at first, I thought his fin setup was a bit weird. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made. Looks to me like the bogging/overpowering the nose is due to riding at too low volume. This board is meant to be ridden with some extra foam, hence the sharp down rail. At low volume the rail is too sensitive and easily overpowered. Go up a size or two and the board will perform better.

Noel, have you ever tried the Nubster fin with quad sets? Would love to hear your thoughts on it if you have ridden it before I pull the trigger on buying one.
Bobby Harmston Absolutely... the Nubster really helps with control on a Quad. Quads are really fast and offer good release and sometimes it’s herd to control that speed due to a little slide without that little center fin. Put in a Nubster and you have speed, control, and a tad more pivot with confidence. Nubsters are needed when the waves have a bit more speed and power, or if your riding a really wide tail board as a Quad and you want to control the slide or release.
As someone who rides mostly twins, mid lengths, cruisers I am really interested in this genre of board as my go to thruster- flat deck, beak nose, low rocker 80's style. I know T.Patterson has the synthetic 84, any other models in this genre you could recommend?

Was looking Phantom but wouldn't want to buy a board that's to similar to the RR I already have... Thanks so much in advanced if you reply...very wise/talented surfer you are, Noel.
I've had mine for a little over a year now and absolutely love it. As Noel said the quad fin setup on this board is nutss. I now have a pyzel shadow thruster only for the bigger hollow days, and use my RR as a daily driver. It's a great board for summer fun waves but it can also be used in some better quality waves for some more performance surfing
Congrats... Good stuff guys keep it going 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼... I know they are different boards but as a quad set up... which do you like better rad ripper or seaside... I have a seaside and have been really interested in a rad ripper any input would be great...
jacko inthebox I like the Phantom better, but it’s best in 3-7’ surf. The RR has more get up and go and best in 1-5’ surf. You can have both boards in your quiver and not have much overlap. I would shred the RR in 1-3’ surf and then switch to the Phantom for 4-7’ surf.
You can size up to 30L but that’s the top end volume for your weight and skill level. If your looking to progress and you want quick sharp turns then I suggest 28-29L
I'm looking for my first shortboard and I'm really stuck since there are so many options. I need something 6.2" or under and with a minimum of 41 litres, so a shortboard that can still support me and thats fairly easy to paddle on. Any recommendations? ill take all the help i can get

Hey Noel, I'm coming back from a 5 year layoff and 20lbs heavier, 30 years old 5'11 @ 170. All my old boards are in that pointy 5'11x18.5x2.25 and feel small. I was on the very upper end of intermediate when I stopped. Strongly prioritizing a good paddler/wave catcher, but not super strong atm so kinda concerned about burying the rail on these new high performance stubby boards. This board will be for pleasure point up in santa cruz in that 1-7ft range (one board quiver basically), any board and dim recommendations? Keep up the good work!
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks Noel, I was not expecting that suggestion!! I'm going to go look for one locally, but it might be a little out of my price range. Coconut Inc Astro POP carries more speed and goes best in 1-3’ surf. The Rad Ripper goes good in 1-6’ surf but the AP carries more down the line speed. The RR will pivot better and have a more HPSB vibe compared to the AP.
I'm digging this major,… from the first turn and throughout! This Rad Ripper looks great,…. This and the White Noiz are my two favorite style-surfings of yours,… the board shape looks cool,… though I don't like the Lost/Mayhem name, the negativity.
CwALT Weirdo Ripper is epic but it has more rocker and needs a decent wave for it to shine. This RR goes good in 1-2’ surf. I have been telling Yadin Nicols and CI to redesign the Weirdo Ripper with less rocker... that board will go mental in 1-5’ surf. Cheers
@@surfnshowreviews7777 i loved my old franken weirdo, i got the board after it had been repaired a bunch and gained a ton of weight but was over volume for me at 30L my range is more 26-28. Im 5'11 155-160 and i push pretty hard off my back foot. The board worked so well for 1-5ft surf but obviously with that weight it was a more momentum based board or took a pretty punchy wave to get going but it was really responsive and had insane speed once it really got going or in the right conditions it just lit up. I was given it for free and gave it to a buddy of mine who id like to see progress on the conditions that i can still take it out. Definitely one of my favorite channel islands Ive surfed to date.

What would be the FCS2 equivalent of the futures thruster fins you rode
Luke Mitchell Not sure there is one... closest one is probably the Al Merrick fins.
Did you try more volume and mdeium fins in the thruster?
No…
Great Review !
Did you like Pyzel phantom better than this board?
which did you think was quicker off the mark out of the 2
jacko inthebox I like the Phantom better, but it’s best in 3-7’ surf.
The RR has more get up and go and best in 1-5’ surf. You can have both boards in your quiver and not have much overlap. I would shred the RR in 1-3’ surf and then switch to the Phantom for 4-7’ surf.
Thanks heaps !
great review on this Sir Noel, can you please review the new DHD DX 1 Phase3.. if you get a chance
Jayson Websther DHD does NOT participate with our show anymore. Not sure why... sorry.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 its Okey, I though they are still..
hi noel,
i’m looking for a daily driver for San Diego average surf. Rad ripper or uber driver?
thanks!
for me same question!
Uber driver xl or rad ripper mate ?
Can I upsize this board? I’m 145lbs mid-upper intermediate but was looking at 30l 5’8. Would I regret having that much size?
You can size up to 30L but that’s the top end volume for your weight and skill level. If your looking to progress and you want quick sharp turns then I suggest 28-29L
Have you done a review of the Lost Quiver Killer?
todd kriss No sorry..., to see all of our board reviews you can go to our website at www.surfnshow.com
I'm looking for my first shortboard and I'm really stuck since there are so many options. I need something 6.2" or under and with a minimum of 41 litres, so a shortboard that can still support me and thats fairly easy to paddle on. Any recommendations? ill take all the help i can get
Marli B What size waves and what type of wave? Beachies, Point Breaks?
what did you like most this model or the El Tomo fish?
I like the El Tomo better... the Rad Ripper goes better in 1-3’ surf though.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you! congratulations for everything you are doing!
Hey Noel! Great review as always. I was wondering if you’re planning on doing more grom reviews such as the Super Grom by Pyzel. It would be really awesome as I have been thinking about getting it for a while now. Thanks again! You are the best surfboard reviewer on RUclips.
By the way you have my vote for the Surfer Poll best vlog by far!
Monkey surfer I will try to find a Grom to help me do that review if I get more requests.
Noel great review! Maybe an R4 in the back? Or F8s + F6
JorgeAndresCoppiano. Might be too much fin for Quad Rears
Surf n Show Reviews sorry I missed to say, as a Thruster:
Sides: Large R8 side fins
Center: Small R4 center fin
Or
Sides: Large F8 side fins
Center: Medium F6 center fin
JorgeAndresCoppiano. I had the R8 side and R6 in back as Thruster. Maybe the Legacy P8 would have gone better too
Surf n Show Reviews yeah Pivots maybe better. And your 2+1. You look rad when you ride them. Let us now how they work for you
Surf n Show Reviews
I edited the fins message to say it better. Let me know what you think
Do a review on the 7s double down plssss
chee2722 Sorry my focus is on the bigger brands... it helps out more surfers World Wide.
Matt Get a Seaside.... 30-31 liters should be good
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks Noel, I was not expecting that suggestion!! I'm going to go look for one locally, but it might be a little out of my price range. Do you have an alternative suggestion just in case? I was looking at the Phantom, Uber driver xl, quiver killer as well, but willing to consider everything! Seriously appreciate the reply
Matt UB XL and Phantom are excellent too.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 hey Noel, I've been going through all your reviews and there's too many choices! I'm thinking the phantoms low end sweet spot may be in the middle of the range I'm looking for. How do you think the ub xl would treat me in both point break and beach break 2-6ft? Definitely looking for nice get up and go
Matt Yup the UD XL will suit you perfectly
Man, I want this board to round out my quiver!
Love your reviews!
What song is it at the beginning and end????
Gabriel Archer I put it on the first wave... it’s the same song too.
Have you tried med fins ?
Yes...
Rad Ripper vs Astro Pop for 1-4+ Huntington Beach/ OC waves?
Coconut Inc Astro POP carries more speed and goes best in 1-3’ surf. The Rad Ripper goes good in 1-6’ surf but the AP carries more down the line speed. The RR will pivot better and have a more HPSB vibe compared to the AP.
Surf n Show Reviews thanks Noel! The surfing community always learns a lot with your reviews !!!
Love the show will definitely vote!. Also can you do a review on the good old hypto krypto with thruster vs quads?
How is it vs the UJ
Rad Ripper offers more high performance surfing... the UJ is faster and grovels better.
Love your show!
Quad went great
I'm digging this major,… from the first turn and throughout! This Rad Ripper looks great,…. This and the White Noiz are my two favorite style-surfings of yours,… the board shape looks cool,… though I don't like the Lost/Mayhem name, the negativity.
That was some Rad Ripping Noel 😎🤙🏾
Song???!!!
mluman83 The song and band is in the beginning of every video. It’s on the first wave...
@@surfnshowreviews7777 AHA just caught it right at the beginning. Thanks! Keep up the great content.
You got my vote
Hell yea Noel 💥
looks and sounds just like a weirdo ripper to me........minus the swallow tail
