      Hey Daniel, awesome comment. From what I have heard, Army is now a Hall of Famer and is retired already from calling the races that we all grew up watching growing up.

    USA-1 had quite a rough year in 1990 and it shows. After numerous flips and breakages no wonder the truck stopped racing in the big leagues.

    I feel bad for Wilke. USA-1 was a literal antique at this point with that narrow stance, center of gravity, and suspension. Jasmer was so stubborn he refused to modernize the truck and seemed to think that it's light weight and power was enough which even during it's heyday with Litzau was barely staying upright.

    So they keep mentioning that this was the 9th rollover for USA-1. Were there other rollovers not on film somewhere because my math doesn't add up to theirs. Here is the list I have.
    1. Freedom Hall, Louisville, KY 1988
    2. Buffalo, New York summer of 89
    3. Kalamazoo Michigan summer of 89
    4. Flint Michigan fall of 89
    5. Roanoke Virginia spring of 90
    6. Richmond Virginia summer of 90
    7. Stafford Springs, CT sulmmer of 90
    What am I missing?

    I do not remember this USA-1 crash, definitely one of the worst ones! Clearly there were things wrong with the design of this truck and it shouldn't have been out there. I can't help but to wonder why, after all of the times this truck was rebuilt (and these had to have been MASSIVE rebuilds), why they didn't attempt to improve the truck. I guess that was the difference between USA-1 and other teams -- other teams constantly upgraded their trucks and made them better while USA-1 was forever stuck in 1988, never learning from mistakes. Kind of shocking GM put up with this mentality rather than leaving for another team like Equalizer or Crusher.

    • @aeroe2144
      @aeroe2144 5 лет назад +2

      Nothing wrong with the design. It was one of the lighter and more mechanically sound leafers but that comes at the cost of narrower track and higher center of gravity. Would have been something to see how there tube frame truck would have run (too bad ushra bought out tnt and usa1 team didn't want to run there shows)

    • @lb9gta307
      @lb9gta307 4 года назад +4

      USA1 was the only truck still using a stock pick up truck frame as the base of its build and it was competitive. That's something GM could boast about in ads (and they did) that one-ups Ford who was sponsoring a truck that only used a Ford body and short block.

    I'm genuinely starting to dislike Andy. I'm aware he's retired from monster truck racing, but if you watch a whole lot of shows with brass driving you notice he never ever says anything about driver error, it's always the track, the opponent, the track officials, the truck not being set up right.
