I'm 78 and have only been painting for 2-3 years. I often get discouraged with my perceived lack of progress, but when I do get that way I go to a Diane Anton video to get some inspiration and encouragement. Thank you so much for making these for us. 😍
Thank you for mentioning hour long you have been painting roses. I was watching and thinking about how effortless you made it look. I am always so critical of myself. I just started using watercolor less than a year ago. I blame my parents for always wanting perfect children and frequently reminding us that we were not as good as … well anyone
I try to remind myself always that there is more beauty in imperfection than in so-called perfection. I love the freedom of watercolor when its allowed to flow how it wants. Not beautiful in my eyes when it is tightly restricted into the idea of the painter.
Diane, it's so wonderful seeing absolutely beautiful YOU in your art studio. Thank you for sharing the new set of paints you received. All of my greatest artist tips, I have received from you. I love these Kuretake paints, and yes, they are life shattering! Although it's sometimes nice to stuff mushrooms, it's really nice to have the option for ready made :) Your painting is lovely. Lottie is beautiful and you can feel her spirit. My take on her gazing at your through the glass door...she doesn't care how sunny and warm the day may be, there is absolutely no better way than to spend the day sitting beside you!
You are certainly right about Lottie, she is a mummy’s girl and I love her to bits. Thanks for all your lovely comments, I truly appreciate every word you type and have typed since we started. See how close we are to 100K subs? Thanks to you, Carolyn! XxxX
Hi Diane you are a woman after my own heart I ordered these three days ago and waiting on them arriving from Amazon. I love the Kuretake paints as their colours are so vibrant and when this new set came out I loved the colour palette so decided on an early birthday present despite my birthday not being until May. Awh well it’s International women’s day today so I’m being strong, determined and I’m getting them. Happy International Women’s day to all us women. Xx
I've only been using watercolors for less than a year. After trying paints of varying quality and price, I found these watercolors to be not only beautiful but budget friendly as well.

The colors are lovely - your painting is lovely, Diane! I can add it to my cart on Amazon, but delivery is given as March 30 - April 19, so I checked ebay as I always do and just snagged a brand new set for only $2 more ($38.99 instead of Amazon's $36.99). It will be shipped First Class for free - I am so excited - I should have it in less than a week! 😍 (Are you thinking of Annie Lennox??!!)

Diane slowly but surely getting me to dip my toes, heck my entire leg, into these Kuretake Gansai paints. Kuretake is such a good art/stationery company anyway. Waiting for a price drop to snatch this set. The colours are gorgeous.

Thank you so much Marjorie! Yes, it’s great to have joined the Art Nouveau Club! I like that the colours are so subtle - although it is possible to mix them from the 48 set it is so much easier to just go to the right color! More videos coming for sure!

I just got my Kuretake set today! I am so delighted and can't wait to find the project I want to do. I think the colors will inspire me! Thanks for the suggestion💖
Those are beautiful colors for sure. Will have to get a set when possible. Thank you for sharing the little practice and allowing us to see how these colors look.
@@DianeAntoneStudio being such a big fan, one would think I would spell it correctly! Having a huge rain storm for next 4 days! That means 4 days I MUST stay inside and PAINT! By the way, received the Soul Color book. What a charming, informative and lovely book! Cheers! XOXOX ❤️
Those truly are dreamt! I could not afford the box of 48 but had to have so got the set of 12. The swatch 'card' was printed in the lid of the box.....thought that interesting. Anyway, Thanks again for sharing this. Did splurge and ordered a box of the art nouveau from Blicks.....of course on back order.....sigh😀
Hello there! I ust received my Kuretake Art Nouveau set, after 2 months on backorder. But it was worth the wait. I enjoyed your demo - just lovely! By the way, in my set, they have a smallish swatch card on the underside of the box cover, with the color names shown and space for a small swatch. I can't wait to play with my new paint set on Boxing Day. We don't have Boxing Day in the U.S., but I celebrate it, notwithstanding ;) Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year! Carol in Boston PS - I gave up stuffing mushrooms years ago! They taste just as good if you halve them, put them in a baking dish, and bake them until the stuffing starts to brown and crisp. Also, I was a big Eurythmics fan, too. I saw her on TV recently, and she looks great!
You are so much funnier than you probably know! I have just put down a low carb recipe book - aging prediabetic has been - and was genuinely considering stuffing mushrooms. I might now just go and daub something instead. Thanks for all you do Diane
I am tempted to try to get hold of that book again to have a laugh and a stroll down memory lane! I remember it being full of helpful advice… and she was right about that mushroom thing. I think her whole thing was to get the housework done as quick as possible so you could spend more time painting! Right on!
Just lovely; thank you so much Diane! I have a small set (18) of Kuretake paints and I didn’t get a separate swatch page but there was one printed on the inside of the cover. I really relate to trying to limit consumption of art supplies, but it is hard! Thanks again!💕💕💕
I believe she is a wise woman with a wonderful voice. Apparently that song was written by David Gray and he didn’t realised how prescient it was. I saw that in 2020 she wrote on Facebook how it had predicted the mess we are in now.
In the 48 set if you go up an done or from top to bottom the longest distance. Those colors are very cohesive to make a work with like a limited pallet sort of, and in the art nervous pallet used in the video it works horizontally and vertically like she said more monochromatically if you go horizontal and more as a limited pallet or complementary colors if you go vertically. I hope that makes sense.
Love this! Amazon in the US does not have this set at the moment. However, for those in the US who cannot wait, Simon Says Stamp does carry this set. I would be one included in the “cannot wait” category. That said, I paid dearly. The cost is $39.99 plus tax and shipping. Thank you Diane for your wonderful videos!
I bet when you get a package from Kuretake you feel like it's Christmas. You really love their paints. When I need watercolors I need to give them a try!
So true! I just find them very liberating, you can just dive in to the big pans and use lots of water … and no worries about the cost as they are really inexpensive compared to the traditional brands.
Yay!!! I’m so excited to receive these beautiful paints- Art Nuevo Set- All your artwork is beautiful & amazing so thank you for sharing these paints- I have their other sets of paints you have recommended 😊🎨but like you said I live in Mpls, USA so I won’t receive the paints for awhile- Something to look forward too!!!!!! 🎨🩰Maria🌺
I’m pretty sure it will be available Joanne. If I can get it in France (which I did) then you will be able to get it in the UK. That’s the theory anyway!
HAHAHA! After I searched for the paint and restarted the video, I heard that you came up with Annie Lennox's name! I love her voice, by the way! Also, by the way, both Amazon and the ebay seller both show a swatch card with names for the colors! Some are "normal" like alizarin crimson and potter's pink, but some are more "inventive," like saffron yellow and billiard green! I do have a question, Diane - I have some Canson XL watercolor paper that is 300 gram, 140 lb. - what would be the difference between this and the mixed media paper in the sketchbook? I must admit - I don't like the Canson I have and use it for testing colors or practicing strokes - I do love my Arches!
Hi Tracy, the difference is the amount of sizing I believe. The mixed media paper is strongly sized, so it supports a lot of abuse. I find it takes the watercolor very well. I don’t know which Canson you already have - they make so many different things - but their whole XL range is intended for students and includes sketch, drawing, watercolor and mixed media paper. Arches is too expensive (it’s made by Canson btw!) for everyday use. I’m moving away from expensive paper for my everyday painting. I can’t see any deterioration in my work because what I do is so quick and undemanding on the paper. I used to use Arches when I was doing larger, more complicated landscapes and florals. For hobby painting Canson (or Strathmore or any other inexpensive w/c paper) is going to be good enough for a lot of people. Especially in these belt-tightening days…
@@DianeAntoneStudio thank you for the information! I will check out the Canson paper you have (mine does NOT take abuse!), but when I first started painting last year, I tried several different papers and really loved the Arches. I started looking for "deals," like I always do because yes, it is way expensive at regular price. I lucked upon 2 sales online from Michael's last March and June - buy one/get one free. In March, my price per pad ended up being $14 and in June, the price per pad was $16.50. I work small - I cut each piece into 4 pieces and when I don't like what I've painted, I use the back! I still have 5 unopened pads! Michael's also has a rewards program, so when I make purchases, I eventually earn $5 vouchers (I buy a lot of yarn from them as well!). Anyway, your work speaks volumes for using less expensive paper, for sure!!🥰
Amazing learning about Kuretake Art Nouveau colors, I’ve been hearing about them but have never used them! I will try to find them, your example really got me paying attention. I love watch win you paint and hearing your explanations. Thank you and I’m on the lookout for Kuretake Art Nouveau paints! A constant learner, thanks you, Karen Dirmish 24:15
My 24 set of the original colors arrived today and they are a game changer. Come out of the pan so readily. With these and your beautiful lessons I am going to enjoy playing with watercolor so much more. I would love to have ALL the colors but trying to limit the spending right now. I kept saying Annie Lennox, but I guess you couldn't hear me. 😁
I bet there is a perfectly good swatch card on the inside of the top cover of that Kuratake box if you look. That's where I found it on my set of 36 colors. And you are right, I love the colors too!
Yes, there’s a chart of the colours glued to the inside of the box lid. But the bigger set had that, plus a separate piece of paper with the same thing printed on it, which is handier to use than the lid. Not a big deal, just that’s the way it is. Glad you like the paints!
Hi Diane. I am so glad you managed to buy a set of these lovely colors. Thank you for a beautiful demonstration of rose painting. I love painting roses but mine aren’t as fluid as yours. I guess more practice is needed. 🤔. Cheers.
I searched out this video to try out my new paints! Yay! Strange…I just checked online for the Canson XL mixed media book and the one that they are selling here is not the quality paper that you have. The U.S. version is only 160g. I have been wondering about how to help you with our purchases. If we go directly from your videos to Amazon and buy our miscellaneous stuff will you get credit for it even though it’s not painting stuff? I could sure be willing to go to your channel before I make my many Amazon purchases! Just wondering! Thank you for the video! You’re right, the Kuretake Art Nouveau colors are unique and beautiful!
Yes Donna!!!! If you follow any of my links to anything on Amazon, no matter what you buy, and even if you don’t buy anything I’ve recommended, we will get a small commission from everything you do buy!! And that will help us so much!!😀😀❤️
I KNEW this was going to be 'dangerous'! 🤣 I NEED these. Love the way you took us through this set and also that tip on the paper, and yes, I will be ordering a set as soon as I possibly can. I can get them for just shy of $62aud Oh those cartoons from France ... love them. Manga for me is a bit of a hit and miss although a couple of my children love them. Thank you for sharing your experience and love of painting Diane.
Hi Kerry and thanks for sharing. I am completely ignorant of Manga, totally and utterly clueless. I just know that Kuretake paints work well for them! But they are by no means limited to cartoon painting! As we have already seen! Someone told me that I’m wrong about the french cartoons, that they actually come from Belgium. Who would have known!!!
@@DianeAntoneStudio well there ya go on those cartoons. My set of these AND this set Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor Paint Set ([2022 New Color] Graphite Color) arrived today *happiness* now to let the Muse have free reign and see what we can come up with 🤣 I also have that book you recommended, it came the other day and I have now finished week one ( I did that week yesterday and the final day at silly o'clock this morning when I was awake thanks to NOISY people down the road 😠 ) I really like Paul Klee and Piet Mondrian. There are a lot of really good quotes in that book also. Thank you for reviewing and mentioning 🥰
Ah, that’s good to know. There are several sketch books that look similar to the one I’m using, but with thinner paper. If you want the same one I’ve found, check it is 140lb paper not anything less.
You make it look so easy! I’m trying to go from acrylic to watercolours and finding it so hard. I know I’m not using enough water but it’s very alien to me still. I will keep trying though, the roses are just beautiful x
You can do it! I honestly think you will find the transition easier if you go for these paints. You can get a smaller set to try them out if you like. They encourage the use of more water, because you can make the pans wet and use very light or dark washes from the same pan. Liberating!
@@DianeAntoneStudio thank you for the encouragement, I find it very therapeutic even though I can’t get the hang of it. I have been looking at the set you have linked on Amazon so will order some next week and go to work. Thanks again.
Those colours look lovely. When I first started water colouring 4 years ago, I bought the original Gansai Tambi 24 colour set. I loved them and still use them now; but just to let you (and others) know - the link you’ve got here for Amazon UK , takes me to that original set, and not to the Art Nouveau collection. It appears to be out of stock everywhere in the UK sadly.
Yes, there’s a chart of the colours glued to the inside of the box lid. But the bigger set had that, plus a separate piece of paper with the same thing printed on it, which is handier to use than the lid. Not a big deal, just that’s the way it is. Glad you like the paints!
Diane, I just ordered this set from Dick Blick in USA for $30! Amazon is charging $49.00 for the same set and there is only one seller, so no chance to compare prices!
Kuretake just say that they are lightfast. I haven’t found any detailed information but for my everyday purposes they are good enough. For heirloom work I would use traditional paints.
Sometimes it comes up as “ muted colors” Karetaki watercolor Sets.. online and and you tube. (It is the same set) Also if you live in the U.S. google St.Louis Art supply and They have it NOW🎉 …..And “Blick”said they will be coming to their online store.(unless their provider Is sold out or back ordered March 20th… Good luck!👍🤓 Edited to add cost at At St. Louis 36.00 dollars and some change maybe but with Shipping it is 45.54 dollars (give or take a few cents). It is only 28.00 dollars from Blick but 9.99 for all orders under 50 or 59 dollars shipping,if they do get them
Thanks so much Kathy for that helpful input. It’s strange that they have become so hard to get a hold of. But that’s really good to know about St Louis and Blick.
I just love these paints and received mine last week after a months wait for restock. We are in Gers 32 and the art shops are few and far between, although Cultura is handy but quite a trek.
Tell me about it! Here in Finistère (28) I am at least 2 hours from anything resembling an art store and it definitely wouldn’t be worth the drive. Not sure what I’d do without Amazon, and I also order from Jacksons in the UK and Le Geant have a massive range to order from their catalogue or online. Shopping in rural France is not quite the same as in the US, is it LOL
@@DianeAntoneStudio thank you for the tip about Le Geant, I have just created an account with them after seeing your post, lol. Although I do love living in the sticks here, I do so miss being able to peruse the art and craft shops, combing a shopping experience with a lunch out, hehe. We sometimes do go to Toulouse, which has lots of art shops and galleries, plus roadside cafés, which is such a treat, however it is a 4 hour drive there and back. Love your channel by the way 💕
This sketchbook is available in the US, it just has a different cover and is 8.5x5.5 instead of A5, it’s $6.95 at blick now. The paint is $28 on blick and the website said it will be in stock March 20th. I checked the store not far from me any they only have the regular sets in stock
Be careful about the book, Canson have other cheaper grades of sketchbook which are not at all the same paper. Still good, but not the same. The Mixed Media XL book I am talking about is very tough paper which stands up to abuse!

I just got my Kuretake set today! I am so delighted and can't wait to find the project I want to do. I think the colors will inspire me! Thanks for the suggestion💖
Have fun!
Those are beautiful colors for sure. Will have to get a set when possible. Thank you for sharing the little practice and allowing us to see how these colors look.
You’re welcome Sundie, they are liberating!
Really nice set of colors!
Oh my! A new item on my wish list! MUST get these! I have become a huge Kuretaki fan! Inspiring indeed. Thank you! Oxo❤️
You are so welcome Posie!
We don't have Boxing Day in the U.S., but I celebrate it, notwithstanding ;)
Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year!
Carol in Boston
PS - I gave up stuffing mushrooms years ago! They taste just as good if you halve them, put them in a baking dish, and bake them until the stuffing starts to brown and crisp. Also, I was a big Eurythmics fan, too. I saw her on TV recently, and she looks great!
Yes to all of that! Thanks, I might try that mushroom tip! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year !!
Right on!
@@DianeAntoneStudio I absolutely loved that book! I'm tempted to find it again too.
Thanks for the demo, I ordered the art nouveau set and can't wait to try it. My paints presently are artists loft, so this should be a nice change.
Glad it was helpful!
Just lovely; thank you so much Diane! I have a small set (18) of Kuretake paints and I didn’t get a separate swatch page but there was one printed on the inside of the cover. I really relate to trying to limit consumption of art supplies, but it is hard! Thanks again!💕💕💕
You are so welcome!
The 24 pan set fits perfectly in the smallest Masterson stay wet palette
Full steam with Annie Lennox, sea of beige reference. Always loved Annie since her Eurythmics days.
Beautiful colours, pastels. Love them.
I believe she is a wise woman with a wonderful voice. Apparently that song was written by David Gray and he didn’t realised how prescient it was. I saw that in 2020 she wrote on Facebook how it had predicted the mess we are in now.
@@DianeAntoneStudio wow yes, wise indeed. We sure are in a mess.
Great video and great set! But the link for US Amazon is not for this set, it’s on Blick art!😍😃
There is a provided swatch card on the inside of the lid with the color names and numbers. It is easy to miss with the way they packaged the set.
Hi Diane, thanks so much for your kind comments and the good info. I haven’t heard of Simon Says Stamp so I’ll look them up!
Love love Annie Lennox! I'm so anxious to get this set. Found some available on Blick's on the 20th!
Well done!!! You cannot be without them!!
Dick Blick in the US has this set for $28. Ordered yesterday and it’s on back order, but expected to ship by 3/20. Excited!
🎨🩰Maria🌺
You are so welcome! You will enjoy them!
I have been after the first Art Nouveau set for blinking ages in the UK! If this set is still available next payday, then I shall be buying one!
Tintin (by Hergé) is from Belgium actually. 😊
Well I never.
I found them very liberating. Most of the problems that beset us with traditional watercolors are lessened by the Kuretake paints. You will love them!
Thanks so much Leann, so glad you’ve got a set of the 48 colors and the art nouveau ones will be on your Christmas list I expect!
Kuretake also put the names of the colors underneath each individual pallete, which is very helpful❣️
Yes, that’s true, they do now xx
Bingo! Lol Just started watching. 😁
Hope you enjoyed it!
I did! Love the new pallet, too. May have to spring for that one… and while I’m at it… it’s so lovely to see you my dear! 😘
🤔. Cheers.
My set will be here tomorrow!! They are hard to find!!
I can get them for just shy of $62aud
Oh those cartoons from France ...
My set of these AND this set Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor Paint Set ([2022 New Color] Graphite Color) arrived today *happiness*
now to let the Muse have free reign and see what we can come up with 🤣
I also have that book you recommended, it came the other day and I have now finished week one ( I did that week yesterday and the final day at silly o'clock this morning when I was awake thanks to NOISY people down the road 😠 )
I really like Paul Klee and Piet Mondrian. There are a lot of really good quotes in that book also.
Thank you for reviewing and mentioning 🥰
Oh, and I discovered the swatch area on the lid of the Art Nouveau set. Very pretty colours and the Graphite water colour set, very interesting.
Hi Diane, I just found the swatch page stuck on the inside of the lid of the box 😊
It seems like Michael's stores carries the Canson type papers here in the US.
Ah, that has just happened I think Venta. Yes, people are going to have to be patient!!
Have a look in the green lid I think there is swatch plate on the inside of that 😊
Yes, there’s a chart of the colours glued to the inside of the box lid.
Amazon prices are all over the place at the moment, very confusing.
Is there information on the lightfastness of these paints? Thanks in advance.
Kuretake just say that they are lightfast. I haven’t found any detailed information but for my everyday purposes they are good enough. For heirloom work I would use traditional paints.
Sometimes it comes up as “ muted colors” Karetaki watercolor Sets.. online and and you tube. (It is the same set)
Also if you live in the U.S. google St.Louis Art supply and They have it NOW🎉
…..And “Blick”said they will be coming to their online store.(unless their provider Is sold out or back ordered March 20th… Good luck!👍🤓
Edited to add cost at
At St.
Obilix and Asterix and question: why did you not wet the paints, before you started please?
They don’t need to be pre wetted
Annie Lennox, the Eurythmics, don’t think we are not paying attention.❤
Love your channel by the way 💕
These colors seem to have a white added, could it be similar to gouache? They are a nice pallet of colors.
I bought this set as a Christmas gift to myself and had only swatched it. This demo inspired me to go paint some abstract flowers 🎉 Thank you ❤
Wonderful! They are so liberating!
I love those pinks!!! I’m being good at the moment and trying not to buy! Buttttt 😂
You won’t regret it! I know what you mean though, I’m cutting back too!
