The Line that goes Fire on the Mountain Run Boys Run, Devil is in the House of the Rising Sun, Chicken in the Bread Pan Picking Out Dough, Granny Does Dog Bite... Those are the titles of actual Blue Grass songs. This insinuates he played all those songs in the battle. The difference in a violin and a fiddle is how it's tuned and played. My grandpa gave his fiddle to my aunt, who has long played it as violin at her church. There is a sequel to this song, which is featured on the Mark O'Connor album "Heroes". The song is called "The Devil Comes Back To Georgia", and features Johnny Cash as the storyteller, with Charlie Daniels and Mark O'Connor on fiddles, and Marty Stuart as Johnny, and Travis Tritt as the Devil.

The main difference between the violin and a fiddle is the height and shape of the bridge. The bridge is the piece that holds the strings off the body of the instrument. The bridge of a violin is higher and rounder because it is meant to play 1-2 notes at a time, whereas a fiddle, being lower and flatter, can be played to produce 1, 2, or even 3 notes at once. Also, most music for violins is at a slower pace to draw out a note but, as you just saw, a fiddle is usually played rather fast. A flatter bridge means you don't have to move your arm up and down quite as far to go from one string to the opposite side.

You could hear the age in his voice, but it just made it more beautiful. For how famous he was, he was a very humble man. After that song during the Standing Ovation, there wasnt a dry eye there including mine. After the show i bought a t-shirt. I asked the fella behind the table if he knew Charlie personally. He said yes and gave me a look like i was gonna ask him to slip him backstage lol. I just said " im a Veteran, tell Charlie thank you for having our back" he smiled and said he would. This preformance was so much more intimate at a smaller venue, way better than a stadium or arena. Charlie also gave alot of attention to his bandmates , many have been with him for decades. When the song came out, you could not say " bitch" on the radio. That's why the crowd got wild. That version was only on the album. The radio version said " son of a gun". I'm 58 and I remember the controversy around this song. Saw Charlie when he was still alive in concert. One of the best ones I've been to.

There is a part 2 to this song. I remember seeing it at a tribute show. It has The Carlie Daniels Band, Mark O'Connor, Marty Stuart and Travis Tritt as the devil. "The Devil Comes Back to Georgia"

Charlie put on a great show as well as the CDB played great music. I remember seeing him in Raliegh and him running from one dide to the other and jumping up to sit on the grand piano. Had a chance to go see him at a high school in eastern NC. Didn't go to study for a physics exam. Neither of the opening acts showed. They played for a little over 4 1/2 hours. The National Anthem was his last oncore of the night.

If its classical music its a violin. If its in country, its a fiddle!

As a kid I wanted to learn the fiddle, but I refused to play the violin. LOL One of my biggest regrets was not learning at all. You have to have something called talent, which I do not. CDB was huge throughout the 70's and into the 80's. Charlie was also a pioneer in Southern Rock playing along with bands like Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band. We totally wore out tapes of the Greatest Hits album.

The premise is an apocryphal story (not Biblically cannon, more like a religious folk-tale) that the angel Lucifer, before his fall from grace was the "angel of music" and musical inspiration, and he uses music as a form of seductive influence. Hence "The Devil's Music". In the apocryphal tales, one could ensure a loved one's passage to heaven after their death by out-playing the devil at the funeral. The devil controls his minions through music, so play better than him and there will be no obedient demon to claim the soul. It was a common superstition in Ireland and Scottland in the 17th Century, and even though it's largely died out, it made its way to the Appalachian region of the U.S. which saw a lot of Scotts-Irish Immigrants around that time. So you will hear references in a lot of folk music, Blues, bluegrass, and sometimes in Country, Rock and Metal. You also hear it in a lot of Operas and musical theater. For example, Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" refers to the Phantom as the angel of music, implying a devilish seduction. And while not a direct reference, the song "Fiddler on the Green" by Demons and Wizards, does borrow some of that imagery, and is a song you should definitely check out, it's right up your alley.

I heard this on stage at the Hullman Center in Terre Haute, IN shortly before starting my freshman year at Indiana State University in (I think) 1981. The exact timing is a bit hazy due to the Fog of Time. I do remember that Juice Newton opened the show. At this point the only ever concert I'd watch live was the Styx Paradise Theater tour in Evansville, Indiana at Robert's Municipal Stadium.

I am really enjoying your reaction to the music I grew up with. I was a teenager in the 60's, 75 this May. I must say it was the best time of my life. Kids these days don't realize what they missed. The Everyly Brothers "Let It Be Me" was/is a big favorite of mine, in fact when I listen to it, I still think of a special person/ lady. It was written by a Frenchman and is a beautiful romantic song. Even listening to it being played by Herb Alpert and the TJB is also beautiful.
