    Such a splendid harvest! I have eaten these when on holiday. It's such a shame DEFRA have "advised" against selling them. They are so versatile a crop with fresh succulent leaves and wonderful little tubers.

      Viruses need to be solved. And that's more important than our selfishness. Luckily this plant isn't invasive, so that's not the worry, as it would be for Anredera.

    When did you planted this? End of summer?

      Any of the tubers are best planted in late winter or early spring.

    Would love to try these but can't seem to get hold of any in the UK mainland. There seems to have been a virus going around pre 2016 which stopped sales, are you still not shipping to UK?

      Indeed, we're not shipping these to the UK because the potato industry doesn't like competition where you are.

    great vid love the channel. i have been looking to buy some ullucus with out luck, some reading tells that britain is not allowing the sale cautious about a virus that hasnt but potentialy could jump to potatos. i almost bought some years ago but got other strange things insted. oh the regrets. dont know if this is the reson i cant find them, maybe im just no good at online shopping.

    That was a beautiful harvest. I've tried growing ulluco 2 years in a row and it was a disaster. It was the red variety. It barely grew at all and I only had a handful of tiny tubers, 2 cm at best. It tasted like beet leaves.

      Did you pre-grow them in pots in a greenhouse from april before planting them out? We planted into 25cm of pure compost, no amendments. Next year we're going mulch with a little bit more compost, some seaweed dust and volcanic rock dust. Lets see what happens! :D

      @@GardensforLife They were in grow bags in the greenhouse from end of April to November until the first frost killed them. I'm guessing they need a lot more time but anyway the plants were so tiny and frail that they couldn't have yielded anything bigger. I use peat, perlite and compost (from old manure) with some garden soil as my general mix for everything in containers. If I remember well they sprouted in March inside the house.

      @@GardensforLife Unfortunately seaweed and volcanic rock are not available here. Or they might be for insane prices in some obscure store.

      @@GardensforLife Do you know if freshwater algae has similar nutritional properties as seaweed? I'm far from the ocean but I do have access to a good abundance of freshwater filamentous algae.

      @@BotondKisKovacs I think they only begin growing tubers at the very end of their life cycle, from the fall equinox (late Sept) to first frost, so ideally you shouldn't have frost until at least mid-November. However, they also have poor tolerance for temperatures of over 27C, so if your summers are frequently hotter than that, their growth might be stunted. (are you from Hungary? I think Hungarian summers would be too hot, Ullucus is probably more appropriate for NW Europe).
