It drives me insane that this isn't the demo version used on the anniversary edition. This is such a great gritty garage punk sound. The very first Billy Talent I ever heard 😊
Both? There is like 20. There is a version I found on limewire way back and it just doesn’t exist anymore. Kills. I look for it from time to time and this is the closest one I can find.
love this rare version of the song. this is actually the first version i ever heard. In my opinion, both versions are great, but this one is a little funkyer.
this version is def way better. Their demo versions sounded real, their first album was so overproduced and sounded horrible after hearing these songs for so long
Hands down THE BEST version of this song. It was actually the first version I heard. The album one isn’t bad but this is just sooo much better. Funky, high energy, and raw. Ugh i wish this was available elsewhere

I love the intro on this version, really adds something extra to the whole track. They should definitely do a re-release of all their old Pezz stuff as a new album(s) under the Billy Talent name.
Jonathan is honestly one of the bassist in the world!!! He has just the awesome talent to put a melody on a rythmic bass line... he gives me chills everytime i hear him playing o.o so.awesome.
I'll never understand why the energy of this version couldn't be replicated on the big studio version with all those tools at their disposal?... and no, they neutered it
A lot of times it's actually the cleanliness of recordings in big studios that take away the energy. That's why I like this version better because it's recorded "worse".
The energy is still there. Like the other comment said, it's actually the tools you mentioned that take away that raw sound. In the studio you match every part of the song perfectly, you make everything sound how it's supposed to. But on a demo thrown together by the guys there's a lot of imperfections that make it sound so raw. If you want the best of both worlds, listen to their live concert version of This is how it goes. Search for live shows from 2003-2006. The raw sound there was unreal, a lot better than even this demo.

As many others have said, I prefer this version best. A very unique take with a tiny taste of funky dance music tossed in with pop punk rock snarl, catchiness and intensity.
It's neat the way the demo for this and cut the curtains use that blues & funk style. Also the distortion is cranked waay up, which makes it sound messy and unpolished, but I love it. Something really appealing about how raw it is. Also the vocals sound a lot better, I think because the song was originally made around the slower tempo. I too thought this was the original and hadn't heard the album version. When I did, I thought the album version was a really bad demo. It sounded so bad to me in comparison, especially that really synthetic sounding guitar during the verses. Seriously sounds like it came out of a cheap sound mixer.
thank you so much for this. I remember when it only said "uploaded 2 years ago". I didn't even know wtf he sang until like 2015 haha. This song makes my heart hurt with nostalgia in an awesome way.
This will always be considered the normal version, to me. I never heard the record version until about 2 years after I got in to Billy Talent. I wish they kept the same intro and verse riff they had on this demo, on the album.
I was so disappointed when I bought the album and it wasn't this version. My friend had burned me a copy (a long-ass time ago) with this version and I like it a lot more.
Yes! I've been looking for this version for years since I lost the CD I had when I was in high school. IMO, way better than the official release. Can you put that link back up?
I'll be 'that guy' and say while this was a cool introduction to departure from the PEZZ sound, I do prefer the BTI album version. It punches harder, and is by far closer to the epic sound that they held throughout the first 3 BT albums. I also miss the production quality that Chris Lord-Alge brought to the table on the first 2.
he was diagnosed with MS in the end of 1997 -.- and this is how it goes IS aboout it. Don't count on the wicked also is about MS (turning anger into hope is the motto of Aarons organisation F.U.MS, fuck you multiple sclerosis).
Obviously i prefer the album version, but i wish ben sang the chorus like this live, since he lost his screaming voice. It'd be much better on his voice, and its better to the alternative he's doing now.
Most of what you say here isn't really true here though... Billy Talent 1 had tons of jazz chords, as did (but to a lesser extent) 2 and 3. But I agree with the attempt to appeal to the masses. Even though I really don't think they wasted their potential.
This was the first version of the song I ever listened to, and what I thought was the normal track for a very long time. In fact, basically the whole album that I was listening to when I was younger sounds different from the "normal" one (to varying degrees). Where did these come from? Was there a full version of the album recorded before signing to a label? And how the hell did this end up in the hands of 12 year old me all of those years ago?
It drives me insane that this isn't the demo version used on the anniversary edition. This is such a great gritty garage punk sound. The very first Billy Talent I ever heard 😊
You can't even compare both versions. They're too different and they're both awesome as shit
damn yes
Yeah right 😌
100% Spotify doesn't have this version though but it's the one I grew up listing too ;w;
Shit is not awesome. Bad analogy.
Both? There is like 20. There is a version I found on limewire way back and it just doesn’t exist anymore. Kills. I look for it from time to time and this is the closest one I can find.
This is the perfect transition from Pezz to Billy Talent
Great Insight!
love this rare version of the song. this is actually the first version i ever heard. In my opinion, both versions are great, but this one is a little funkyer.
This was my first version too, didn't realise it'd be so hard to find now
1st for me too and I like this version better
I love this version way more. Love that funk feel.
Same! This is the version I grew up listing too ;w;
this version is def way better. Their demo versions sounded real, their first album was so overproduced and sounded horrible after hearing these songs for so long
this has always been the best version for me. 2021 and I still come back from time to time
same
Me too. Not into The „newer“ one. Kids dont know bootlegs from years ago
also Pezz
the "new" version is literally 20 years old this year
@@Redh0und dont say things like that
my bro and me always listened to this version without knowing that it's the demo xD I like both versions but probably this one more!
SailorJupiter2xD I thought the same too, but with 'Try Honesty.'
Thank limewire for that
I love this one more for sure such a cool guitar lick
This IS the version I know and LOVE
Let’s be honest, this song is actually Pezz - “This Is How It Goes”
Hands down THE BEST version of this song. It was actually the first version I heard. The album one isn’t bad but this is just sooo much better. Funky, high energy, and raw. Ugh i wish this was available elsewhere
Idk Ion really think that funkyness really works with the lyrics ngl

His singing 'explodes' at the end of each line, similar to how his heart explodes in the lyrics.

Way better then the album version.
Same for me, probably downloaded it with Kazaa :-D
SAME!!
Both are good in their own way
So this what happens when you fuse pezz's music with billy talent's
I was gonna say exactly this.
This is pezz doing a BT cover
The other demo is a definite BT demo
and you have the album version
PolarBearPhil you know that pezz and billy talent are the same, do you?
Yeah....pretty much what he said. Same band, VERY different sound.
joe bartholomeus There is another band called pezz.
+Neko Sanda other pezz is nothing like Billy Talent or Pezz there is also a band called P.E.Z
Jonathan is honestly one of the bassist in the world!!! He has just the awesome talent to put a melody on a rythmic bass line... he gives me chills everytime i hear him playing o.o so.awesome.

This is my favorite version!! So glad I found it again!
the intro is amazing
Some nights I wake up in a cold sweat; afraid this won't be here for me in my times of need.
Fucking incredible
Wow.... this reminds so of the Pezz music style. .. it's so good
Loved this version since 8th grade!! Still the best version

how the flying fuck does this only have around 100k views in 14 years? this is a fucking masterpiece and every BT fan has to know this version!
So true
My brain remembered this existed and I couldn’t find it on any music platform. I literally thought I made it up.
I feel like you get everything from the Album version in the demo, but lose so much from the demo to the album.
it's strange to hear this version after you heard tousand times the "normal" one!
but i like it
The opposite is also true, homie😅🙌
