That must have a bad plug heater, I didn't see a crank case heater. That foaming is from liquid refrigerant getting under the COOL oil when the system is off. Then when it start's it pushes the oil out into the system. The heater helps to prevent that by keeping the oil HOT.
I have a question- I have a rheem system. The compressor runs fine when temps outside are in the upper 70s, but once temps are in the mid 80s the compressor will run for a while and then shut down. The air handler is still blowing air. I’m assuming the scroll compressor is going into protection mode. Could old oil or warm out oil cause this issue? Thanks!
@@D2DNYAC I’d assume, but not sure. I ran it yesterday when it was 85 outside. Ran fine for half the day then compressor shut down. It’s 75 degrees out side right now, so I turned on the ac. Had to go out and push the reset button on the compressor. Been running fine for an hour.
@ron hanish Hard to say if the compressor doesn’t have an oil sight glass, you should be able to determine the oil type and quality from the name plate on the compressor! Or by using the compressor make, model and serial through the manufacture! Or by using the equipment make model or serial and contacting the unit manufacturer
Oil problems is usually a result of 3 things , low back pressures, low oil, faulty oil pump. So if you add oil to the proper levels while the compressor is off and then when you run the compressor the levels remains low its a oil circulation problem
If it’s hermetically sealed with no oil port at bottom of compressor, then Recover the refrigerant disconnect the pipe and drain it through suction pipe and add it back through suction pipe of compressor , the amount and type of oil should be on the sticker on the compressor.
I have 1.5 hp split a/c system, the compressor gets too hot after half an hour, current goes up to 10 amps, then the compressor shut down, how do I fix it?
If it’s actually pumping / running check and verify the electricals power supply etc is good if so, if head pressures is not high, then compressor is bad, it will probably fail a Meg test. If it doesn’t run /pump try using a hard start kit if it doesn’t run then the compressor is bad
man you always posted exactly what I need to know years before I need to know it!

Crankcase heaters are only needed if the compressor is outdoors and runs all year long and during cold ambient temperatures.

how to know how much oil the compressor have if it doesn’t have a sight glass?
on a typical 2 ton older r22 unit how much oil approximately for system? 25000 btu system.?

Install a side glass on it
So oil should be until half of glass When compressor working or when compressor not working
Not working!
