I think the best thing you could do if you decide you wanna be a pet photographer is volunteer at animal shelter for a few months
Yasss!!! So many photographers in my area are jumping on the pet photography bandwagon because it’s “cute and easy”. Until they actually try it.
Right? It's been touted as this cute add-on to wedding and portrait photographers. Hmmm maybe I should have applied to speak at PPA on this subject...
I love how you create this space for pet photographers. You do such an amazing job.
Aww thanks Katie :)
It been Super busy just had time to watch the video it was a great one like always and it was so cool to see my photo at the end .
Thank you for sharing!
God bless you, I see your fondness for your job, follow your biggest passion! Have a great day.
I had a little chuckle at the 'calm and orderly' session. What's that?! Thanks as always for great content! :)
Ok calm and orderly in my head anyway lol 😆
Did you replace the sky in your video; or did that beautiful three-color gradient occur naturally!?!
So, I've been questioning myself about my desire for a creative career a lot lately. Will I ever be good enough to offer my services professionally? Should photography just remain a hobby for me? I do absolutely love being with dogs, though. Loving on dogs, photography in nature, and photo editing are my most enjoyable moments. I can really get into a zone and stay there for hours, without any awareness of how much time has passed.
I loved your expressions of joy and happiness at the beginning of your video! More of us should allow joy and happiness into our experience, especially for those of us who are so easily able to reach that state. I believe that staying in a state of joy and happiness radiates beyond ourselves and helps create a more peaceful and harmonious world. I believe a more harmonious world starts with us, one person or small group of people at a time. I'm so glad that you shared your experience. I can tell that you're a lot like me. Joy and happiness flows easily into me. I see beauty all around me; and when I focus on the beauty, it's easy for me to naturally feel joy and happiness. It seems to me that this is true for you, as well. Honestly, I have many moments of frustration and anger. I try to keep them short and reach for joy because, for me, joy feels so much better; and I feel that I'm more effective in that state.
That is a natural "Colorado Bluebird Sky". Creative business may not be for everyone. Keeping it a joyful hobby is totally fine too! I find I embrace joy so much as I've known the opposite so sharply. After a photo session I am seriously on a high and can't sleep or settle for a couple hours :)
@@ProPetPhotog I love that "Colorado Bluebird Sky". Don't get me wrong. I know that I want a more fulfilling and rewarding source of income than I am currently using. I would like for that to be a creative business (photography, writing, editing.... creating something); so I haven't given up on the idea.
Great creative black on black kitty photography Katherine! 😸 It looks like a painting on velvet! 😃
It's all about the eyes in her photo right? :)
@@ProPetPhotog Yes! Devinitely (oops! I'm keeping that typo! Cool slip of the fingers. 😀) Yes, those eyes are gorgeous!
I hear it all the time, "My dog is black, you probably won't get a good picture with a black backdrop."
Me: "Challenge accepted!"
@@TroyDurrance Same!
I submitted that photo because it was in my state competition and now it’s going to my districts night gallery for display and could also receive another Recognition . If only cats could talk with words I think my cat would be proud lol he get his own metal lol .
Oh my!
Like the video. Disagree about the side-gig point, though. I can understand the intent, people will want to come back to you if you do a good job, but side-gigs are often the gateway to bigger things. It's a great way for folks to trying things out and see if they like it or not. There might not be enough business in the area for it to be a main gig. There are many reasons why someone might not be going into this with it being a main gig in mind.
You missed the point of this part. You can have pet photography as a side gig but treat it like a real genre. Not just some little cutsie "extra" you do with your wedding photography for example. I am all for trying out new genres but I am tired of pet photography being brushed aside as just an add on or just for fun side of your "serious" photography.
Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
You forgot to mention the messes such as peeing on the backdrop, LOL.
Oh you are so right!
@@ProPetPhotog Last shoot I did at the shelter the dog peed on the backdrop but I got a treat throw image from him. So he made up for his mistake, LOL
You were serious, this really IS a video of why to NOT do pet photography. I thought for sure you'd were going to switch it up and say all the good things. I'm a pet photographer. I switched from others styles TO pet because I thought it would be LESS editing. My FIRST pet client brought me an UNGROOMED, mess of a Husky mix. I spent HOURS editing the fur to look good. Uhg! But, I've never looked back. ;) I love what I do!!
Oh that sounds like an impossible editing job! Even with all the warnings I love pet photography too! Maybe I should record the plusses as a separate vid :)
@@ProPetPhotog After some editing and choosing my image VERY carefully, it ended up being the image on my business card for a few years.
@@TroyDurrance Worth the effort then!
So, basically, if you are up for the challenge, it’s a great business.
I think so!😀
