I recently got Set A Watch, and love it. I'm new to boardgaming so this list came just in time since I'm loving this type of mechanism and want to find something new!
Thanks Tom, I enjoyed this video. The Dice Tower are just consistently knocking it out of the park with the videos being produced at the moment, thank you for all of your great work!
Oh my, since Roll Player isn't mentioned here, I'm wondering if Tom considers it a better fit in another genre? For me, Roll Player would definitely be in top 5. Glad to see Rajas of the Ganges and Lorenzo Il Magnifico mentioned!
My picks. 1. The Voyages of Marco Polo (2015) and Marco Polo II: In the Service of the Khan (2019); 2. Troyes (2010); 3. The Artemis Project (2019); 4. Rajas of the Ganges (2017); 5. Coimbra (2018); 6. Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia (2013); 7. Panamax (2014); 8. Discoveries: The Journals of Lewis and Clark (2015); 9. The Castles of Burgundy (2011); 10. Signorie (2015).

I really like Teotihuacan a lot, but I don't consider it as a dice placement game at all... It's a rondel game that gives a very different feeling than Alien Frontiers or Fantastic Fsctories... it is completely a different category.
I actually saw a good point somewhere else in the comments that suggests that this is not dice placement. The dice are never rolled so just represent power. This could be replaced by stacking tokens. This is obviously impractical so dice are used as they work better. I think the thing you described is the definition of a rondel rather than placement, you are moving rather than placing. Otherwise all rondel games should be rondel/action selection/worker placement.
Circadians First Light is suuuuch a good game. Sadly overlooked. Glad to see it on your list. Also glad to see there will be a follow up game in the same universe next year.
Yeah, I was ready to head to the comments section and cry foul about Circadians being left off:). Glad it wasn't necessary. I'm a huge fan of Garphill Games in general, but I think this one is my favorite.

Blueprints is a really fun game but it always seems to get overshadowed by Cubist in conversation. Having never played the latter I can't say which is 'better' but love Blueprints anyway. 😊
This is a category of games that I love! Very much agree with Rajas and Fantastic Factories being favorites. Also love Marco Polo 2. Some other favorites that have something to do with dice and action selection are: The Castles of Burgundy, Grand Austria Hotel, Teotihuacan and Dice Hospital.
I really like Unearth, from the makers of Boss Monster. Super simple dice placement with some tableau building. Euphoria is a game that I've always wanted to play but the board is super busy and hard to look at

Circadians: First light is my current favorite followed by Euphoria and then Alien Frontiers. I liked Marco Polo but I traded it away for shelf space. Once Perseverance: Castaway Chronicles comes out it will take the top spot for me.
I love Fantastic Factories, still need to get Kingsburg to the table. Monster Lands looks neat, saw a friend playing it and the board definitely had me intrigued.
Taverns of Tiefenthal is a pretty good dice placement game. Under Falling Skies as solo dice placement Endangered as cooperative dice placement Never played Roll Player but I thought it was also dice placement and one most people enjoy...
Artemis Project surprised me, it's been one of the games that just straight up appeals to me since I started getting deep into board games. Never actually picked it up though or really seen much buzz around it.
The only dice placement games i own are the One Deck Dungeon/Forest games, they are loads of fun and can be played solo but kinda old now.. i might have to check some of these out.
Troyes is one I love and would have included. I'm glad that Circadians and Artemis Project made the list. Love those games as well. Also, based on your recommendation, I bought Homebrewers recently. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but that looks like a good one.
@@danielweil-brenner9261 that's true but thats not what dice placement means. He explained this. Dice placement is a worker placement where your workers are dice. Which doesn't fit roll player at all
What about Coimbra? You have to draft the dice trying to make the best choice of a combination of color and number. There is a cool mechanic where higher dice have preference to buy cards first but you have to pay more, but small number are good to if you want the castle pieces.
I really like this mechanic but I'm struggling to find one that works well with just 2 players. I found Kingsburg extremely underwhelming in this regard for example. Which of the others on the list would you recommend for 2 players, almost exclusively?
We recently picked up Sagrada, and we are enjoying it. We don’t have the breadth of knowledge in the gaming hobby as many of the other posters, I’m sure.
Sagrada is a good game for sure, but it is not a worker placement game with dice substituted for workers. So it doesn't fit this category. Instead, Sagrada is a dice drafting game with pattern building. Plus, it's beautiful to look at.
Steampunk Rally is Fantastic Factories with a racing theme! Check it out! But my all-time favorite in this genre is actually Stefan Feld’s Arena: Roma II (also the original, Roma).
Why are you including Rajas of the Ganges on this list? Sure, it has worker placement and dice but you don't place the dice. It's a worker placement game where dice are a currency. So many seem to get this confused, to the point where I've heard about people thinking they can do an action by simply placing dice. This might add to that confusion.

Thanks so much for mentioning Circadians, Tom. Pleased you enjoy it!

My favorite is Artifacts, Inc. It has a nice tempo and I don't feel constrained by the luck of the roll. Also one of my favorite themes, which helps.
Defintely an underrated game! So much to do in a little box! And the solo is pretty legit too!! Good call!
Thank you for all these recommendations! I would love to try most of these.

Euphoria - great dice placement game with an interesting theme as well
The wife and I very much love Dice Hospital. It just about (for me) fits into this but maybe not, which I understand as the dice are not workers.
Dice Hospital is so cool! And I dig the solo too!
Surprised Troyes wasn’t on this list. Great game. I love dice placement and had 7 of the 10 on the list.

Rajas isn't dice placement. It's worker placement. The dice are a resource you spend. That's like calling Tzolk'in a corn placement game.
Tzolkin is definitely the best corn placement game I’ve ever played!
Let's talk about actual issue here.....where did you get that dice tower? It is fire!!!!!

Not only are Voyages of Marco Polo/Marco Polo 2 my favourite dice placement games, but also among my very favourite games overall
Rise to Nobility is one of my faves

A dice placement game that me and my family really enjoy, but rarely gets mentioned is roll for adventure. Its also quite cheap to buy.
I want to try a few of these games he mentioned for sure....but no Roll Player? No Sagrada? Wow. Those would be top 3 for me.
I always forget Rise of Queensdale has that little plunger. There’s a very small plumbing business somewhere wondering where their supplies went.
My favorite Dice Placement Game is Marco Polo. I haven't tried Marco Polo II.
2 words : try it.

Monster lands' artwork is amazing, but the game is sadly a bit too convoluted and tends to last a long time.

Under Falling Skies as solo dice placement
Endangered as cooperative dice placement
