In "my day" we had everything we needed in this quiet valley, grocery store, Isleys, butcher shop, 5&10, of course bars, restaurants, catholic school & church, a life of its own!
grew up in West End up by the park on LovelaceSt. Would love to live there again, I know this area will have its comeback just like south side, east liberty. It was a fantastic place to grow up.St. James was our life!
Wow? My old stomping grounds. My Mom grew up on S. Main st., attended St. James school, and worked at Isalys. I remember going to the 5 & 10, and stopping at the drug store soda fountain for a cherry coke. Good memories! Haven't been back that way in decades. Not since my Grandfather's funeral, at St James church.... the wake was held at the hall, or gymnasium at St. James school school. I can't remember exactly, but my family is huge.... so the gymnasium would make more sense. Thanks for this trip down memory lane!
This video portrays everything as decaying, what I don't understand is why so many live in projects instead of two and 3 dwelling houses. Yes people are dying of. But their should be a better way, to revitalize these homes. And that's not by running people into homelessness. Or drug addition.
Mr. Lanz made my wedding cake even though they had moved to South Side. Soo many fond memories of growing up here!

My Home
Does it matter where you go? Drugs and violence has tore up many cities . When that happens, where's left to go.
