It’s my second favourite to Rocky’s speech to his son in Rocky Balboa (2006) (it ain’t about how hard you hit - it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward)
Mr. T most notable role to me was when he was in the TV show: The A-Team. Where every episode was like a mini-80's or 90"s movie, lots of guns and explosions and cars flipping over. Loved that show! 😎
Fun fact: This movie was what propelled Hulk Hogan to stardom, and was instrumental in thrusting the wrestling industry into the mainstream. Hogan got a MASSIVE pop, and he wisely decided to capitalize on it. Hulkamania was born, and it wasn't long before Hulk Hogan was a household name. At the inaugural Wrestlemania in 1985, the main event saw Hulk Hogan team up with Mr. T against Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff. The event saw Cyndi Lauper as a wrestling manager, Liberace as a pre-match act, and Muhammad Ali as the guest bellringer, among other celebrities. Needless to say, it was a huge deal.
Mr T improvised the line where he taunts Adrian that Rocky isn’t a real man at the Statue Ceremony. Stallone loved it because it made him go berserk when they filmed it and came off more realistic that he was protecting his woman.
Mr. T. - king of the two word phrases this film - 'Dead Meat' and of course 'Hey Woman!' The wildest thing is Mr. T is as sweet of a guy as there is - I'm sure his mom chastized him for that one.
Mr. T. took his Mom to the premiere of this movie. She walked out during the movie because she hated the character Clubber Lang. She told him, "I didn't raise you to act like this!" He tried to tell her that he was acting and playing a character, but she wouldn't listen. I always thought that was a touching and funny story. Also, Long Live Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). May he rest in peace!
Yeah his character is just all around bad person, don't get why Simone was feeling bad for him at the end when Rocky was whopping him, i'm legitimately perturbed.
Amazingly, this is the first and ONLY time Mr T said "I pity the fool" yet it became his most famous catchphrase. He only ever said it once and somehow the sentence outgrew him and he became known for it.
Hulk Hogan was mostly unknown before this. This movie launched his fame and allowed him to vault to the pinnacle of stardom in Wrestling. Tht's why when he went into the WWE hall of fame, he asked Stallone to introduce him.
5:25 The point of Paulie's character is that he is what easily Rocky could have become. He's a few years older than Rocky and they come from the same streets living in poverty with few if any opportunities to change their circumstances. Paulie is what Rocky could have been and what, likely, most other people in that community are their own version of. It highlights that there is something special inside of Rocky (and Adrian) and that all they needed was the support they get from each other to push them to blossom into a better versions of themselves....taking the chance to realize their dreams and become something more than their community or social class would have for them.
16:32 Yes, Clubber would accept it because he does not have what normal decent human beings would describe as a conscience. He is the ultimate narcissist and holds everyone else in contempt. That is his characters defining quality. Clubber is the opposite of Rocky whereas Apollo is a very good human being but is a warrior/businessman.
27:06 I love it when women often initially are very hesitant of watching Rocky films thinking they won't enjoy a "sports film", and then find out it borders on being legitimately called a "chick flick". The writing is genius.... with appeal for multiple perspectives.
After his role as clubber Lang mr.t career skyrocketed and he did DC cab playing a cab driver the 80's TV classic the A-Team as B.A. Baracus . He also had his own cartoon and delicious cereal where the cereal catchphrase was " I pity the fool who don't eat my cereal "
I watched this in the cinema when I was about 14. My father was waiting to pick me up in a car park about quarter of a mile away. When I got to the car he told me that he had heard the cheering from the cinema during the final fight. To this day, the single greatest cinema experience of my life. It was bedlam in there.
Rocky 4 isn’t as loved by critics, but it was every young boy’s favorite growing up, including mine! Just embrace all of its epic ‘80s-ness and it’ll be awesome 😂
One thing about Apollo in this one is that he was never really a bad guy. Even if Rocky II when he was kind of acting a bit bad, it wasn't because he actually was. His manager had a point when he told Apollo that to get the rematch that he wanted, he was going to have to be the bad guy. He was never really bad, but he knew that if he didn't act like that, Rocky would never give him that match. So him coming to Rocky here might seem a bit odd, but he never really hated Rocky, he wanted to beat him, sure, but I never felt like he really hated him.
I remember seeing Mr. T. gain his fame in the 'world's toughest bouncer' competition when I was around... 8? He was fascinating and powerful, and I got really excited after that when he started showing up in TV and movies!
In the first movie Mickey tells Rocky not to fool around Rocky tells Adrian he can't fool around during training because of an old wives tale a man orgasming weakens him And this is a known phenomenon in fighting when you start sleeping on satin/silk sheets (you made it) you lose some of that fire & drive when you got enough money not to work or fight again
Both this and the start of the Rambo Saga with 'First Blood' in the same year. Sly's career was into overdrive. The fights (written by Sly, credited as boxing choreographer) are pretty good. Rocky's 2nd fight with Clubber was a major step up. Mr.T's introduction was golden and pretty much made his career legendary. Phenomenal as Clubber Lang, in his physical prime, talking that s*** (first-ever 'I Pity The Fool'). Burgess Meredith as Mickey for one last time was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Rocky & Apollo's friendship, rivals to friends, working together as true champs. The statue at the top of the museum steps is still such a meta moment. Having up there for so long for real, lots of love and as an kid, i thought it was just for the movie. Eye of The Tiger, the first of 3 songs recorded for the Rocky saga by Survivor. Great movie theme and still is a classic workout song. This was the one film of the saga I had seen the least. But I definitely think this was one of the best '3rd films' in a franchise. Originally, this was planned as the final film in the series and that itself is crazy. If you guys watch Rocky IV; you have 2 choices:the original cut (1985) or the director's cut (2021).
As a long time fan of the Rocky series, as someone who has seen them all a dozen times, this is actually my favorite one. I just love the pacing of this movie, its fun, its got heart, I just love it.
one of the alltime greatest rocky lines is when Clubber is asked for his prediction and his answer is just "Pain" (also the fact that Mr T gets in a "I pity the fool" line)
Stallone's acting in the Mickey death scene rivals any Oscar winning performance in the history of film. I've probably seen it 200 times since the 80s and i still tear up.
When people rag on his acting in usually like "go watch the last scene in First Blood, the 'you asked me, I didn't ask you!' monologue, and tell me he can't act." Same basic thing here, there's just more lines in First Blood. Then I suggest Copland to really drive it home that he's more than capable in front of a camera.
But the scene makes no sense. When Rocky was still in the ring they gave Mickey CPR. Apparently they got his heart restarted…and then just left him laying there. Maybe get him to the hospital?
The first Rocky I ever saw and it is still the best sequel by far. Mr. T was not a villain in my opinion. He was hungry and he believed in himself. It was his overblown sense of pride that did him in. RIP to the truly amazing Carl Weathers 🌹
Clubber Lang's character is modeled after a real life fighter that learned boxing in prison (not Liston who had a similar story). According to Stallone, Lang would go on to find God and become a preacher helping disadvantaged youths in the city. Thanks for the reaction, it was very enjoyable. I hope everyone has a great day
You wondered about Hulk Hogan, and when he was wrestling. Hogan was with the WWE; then known as WWF (World Wrestling Federation) from the late 70's to early 80's when he was picked to play Thunderlips in Rocky III. He then went to the AWA (American Wrestling Association) in the early to mid 1980's; and came close to winning the AWA World Title. He got the call to come back to the WWF in late 1983-early 1984, where he won the WWF World Title on January 23, 1984; over 40 years ago. And it was there that "Hulkamania" was running wild.
RABBIT punching is where a punch would be given to the back of the head by swinging out past the opponent's head and pulling back it and hitting them at the base of the spine and skull.
Ironically this was Mr. T's first role, and it was as the bad guy, but he would go on to be one of the most beloved good guys of the 80's. Supposedly he took his mom to the opening screening of the movie and she walked out at the point where he is cat calling Adrian during Rocky's press conference. When he asked her why she walked out, she told him, "I taught you better than that." This is probably what led to him always playing a good guy after this movie, as well as always telling people to respect their mom.
Sylvester Stallone spotted Mr. T when he was participating in a TV show on NBC called "Games People Play" it had a segment called America's Toughest Bouncer (I think Mr. T won, I can't remember) but that's how he got the role in ROCKY III.
Fun fact: The Rocky statue was much-hated by the Philadelphia Art Museum leadership as not a real piece of 'art', but fans insisted that it remain at the museum. It currently sits in a small area at the bottom of the famous steps (as opposed to at the top, where it was in the movie) and is one of the most frequently visited art pieces on the grounds. On basically any decent weather day, you are certain to see a line of people waiting to take their picture with it -- there is no other piece on the museum grounds that stirs that kind of reaction in people.
Rabbit punches are a swift blow to the back of the head. They are illegal in most fights because it's too easy to cause major damage by hitting the back of the head.
22:35 - CineBinge is very progressive, but damn, everytime George is thirsting over something made for that he gets called out by Simone, when Simone is thirsting George supports.
After more than two and a half movies of watching Rocky take monumental beatings, seeing him actually block and dodge is a joy to watch. The transformation he undergoes through Apollo's training is extremely gratifying.
Thanks for sharing this reaction! It is a testament to how great these movies are that you are watching part 3 and trying to decide if it is your number 2 favorite or not. Few movies get part 3 to be good enough to measure up at all. And these movies are just so well done. I can't wait for part 4
one of the reasons i love paulie's character is that most films use characters like that as a problem to be resolved by the end of the movie. rocky takes the more grounded approach of him being that family member who is always a part of your life. and whilst he's obviously not a good guy hes never shown as full on evil. he has alot of problems (alcohol, unhappy with his career, unmarried) and is capable of showing signs of genuinely caring sometimes and even joking around despite being kind of a grumpy dick most of the time. it also helps burt youngs performance is great
Even though it wasn't done the same exact way since Rocky blocks with his face, there is a tactic called rope-a-dope where someone puts their back to the rope and protects themselves as their opponent tires out. Rocky's fight with Lang is very similar to George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali where I believe the tactic was created by Ali. He allowed Foreman to use up energy, taunted him verbally to make him even madder and then took him down eventually in the 8th.
For me this is the best Rocky movie. Mr T is such a great 'villain' and I love how Adrian has almost no lines in the film apart from that scene on the beach where she drags the truth out of Rocky. Her character arc from the first film in one of the best things in the franchise.
Apparently, Survivor, the band that wrote Eye of The Tiger was asked by Stallone to write two songs for the movie and the best one would be used. The band spent weeks on one song and a few hours on the other. Eye of the Tiger was the song they spent a few hours on.

Mickey's funeral scene is shot in the mausoleum of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It gets used in a lot of films, e.g. Julia's funeral in The Prestige.
@15:34 _Wait, this place looks familiar. Did they use this as a funeral place in a different movie?_ The closest to what you are referring to is *the funeral of Julia,* Angier's wife, who drowned during Milton The Magician's water-tank trick in the 2006 movie *The Prestige.* The "Corridor Mausoleum" in The Prestige was a smiliar looking but, I think, not the same. Compared to "Corridor Mausoleum" where Mick's funeral takesg place in Rocky III, it is about 2 feet narrower & the cieling is triangular (arching in Rocky III) and has a two-colored stone floor pattern (one color in Rocky III). Still the similiarities, especially the same candle-fittings, lead me to believe the narrower corridor is merely a badly executed extension of the same mausoleum.
I can remember the "I pity the fool line before this movie. There use to be a sports show on Sundays, I think, called Wild World of Sports. One sport they use to run on there was amateur bouncers would compete each other in obstacle courses. I can remember Mr. T. being on a few episodes, mostly because his name made me laugh and he was always saying, "I pity the fool" during interviews.
Funerals and burials are sometimes different places (esp. when there are a lot of mourners). In these cases the burial usually only has the closest of friends and family. Most of the funerals I have been to have been like this with the church packed out but only a few people at the actual burial.
I have over the decades, come to see Paulie's backstory, as having to be the protective, older brother, early on in life; In what was obviously, an abusive family environment. He seems to be a sibling who became the scapegoat and punching bag for his Sister. Because he realised early on that his Sister was the brighter one and therefore needed his protection, growing up. Maybe hoped that she could be free of their life and find happiness. But life isn't perfect and they ended up supporting each other the best ways they knew how. Peace All
I've watched all of the Rocky movies many, many times and this is my favorite of the films. A side note: Stallone gave a really nice speech during Hulk Hogan's wrestling Hall of Fame ceremony.

Five seasons, five hundred cars flipped, five billion shots fired, body count: two. Best show ever.
And Mr. T never stepped foot in a plane :)
Rocky III is my favorite. It strikes the perfect balance of heart, action, and humor.
Adrian's speech on the beach is one of the best moments in the series.
Mr T improvised the line where he taunts Adrian that Rocky isn’t a real man at the Statue Ceremony. Stallone loved it because it made him go berserk when they filmed it and came off more realistic that he was protecting his woman.
Carl Weathers, who played Appolo Creed, died recently. He also played kinebacker for the Okland Raiders and in the CFL
i forgot how much better the boxing is in this movie it feels more like a real fight
Mr. T. - king of the two word phrases this film - 'Dead Meat' and of course 'Hey Woman!' The wildest thing is Mr. T is as sweet of a guy as there is - I'm sure his mom chastized him for that one.
She did indeed, after seeing the movie.
Mr. T. took his Mom to the premiere of this movie.
Treat Yo Momma Right was Mr. T's biggest musical hit.
George says all of that in the video
That’s right up there with the story of Paul Raiser’s mom cheering when he died in Aliens
Yeah his character is just all around bad person, don't get why Simone was feeling bad for him at the end when Rocky was whopping him, i'm legitimately perturbed.
I would suspect that is why he spent the rest of his acting career as a good guy and also why he would always tell people to respect their mom.
Apollo Creed saying "There is no Tomorrow!" hits different now he's gone... RIP Carl Weathers 🙏
I will always love this movie for teaching me sportsmenship. When you respect your opponent, you can go from rivals to best friends.
The Karate Kid has a recap at the beginning of the sequels
I dont think Paulie ever beat his sister. And a fun fact. The actor that play Paulie, Burt Young was an actual boxer :)
@@Monster-gr8on but i bet he used to give her abuse in verbal way .. and thats not less than physical force .. it hurts toi
In the first movie Mickey tells Rocky not to fool around Rocky tells Adrian he can't fool around during training because of an old wives tale a man orgasming weakens him
And this is a known phenomenon in fighting when you start sleeping on satin/silk sheets (you made it) you lose some of that fire & drive when you got enough money not to work or fight again
Apollo: "You know Stallion, it's too bad we gotta get old eh?"
Having up there for so long for real, lots of love and as an kid,
i thought it was just for the movie.
RIP Burt Young and Carl Weathers.
And burges meredith (mickey)
Simone's cat rubbing it's face against the mic at 3:51 is adorable
Agreed
But the scene makes no sense. When Rocky was still in the ring they gave Mickey CPR. Apparently they got his heart restarted…and then just left him laying there. Maybe get him to the hospital?
Agreed. In my opinion Copland was his best overall performance.
@@Joseph_Riccio_AZthat's true by the time Rocky got his ass back there, Micky should be in the back of a ambulance!
The first Rocky I ever saw and it is still the best sequel by far. Mr. T was not a villain in my opinion. He was hungry and he believed in himself. It was his overblown sense of pride that did him in. RIP to the truly amazing Carl Weathers 🌹
Hold up, how come Mr. T isn't credited in that poster?
Clubber is a bulldozer. He's used to destroying his opponent early.
He has no stamina to speak of, so the longer the fight lasts, the worse he fights.
The slow motion beach running, inspired baywatch.
It's unbelievably over the top.
All 3 so far are great... but we are finally to the point where they get to watch the greatest Rocky movie ever. Rocky IV is so epic in so many ways.
That mausoleum where Mickey was interred was the funeral home in Phantasm I believe.
15:35 - that was the funeral location near the start of "The Prestige".
I always wondered.when Creed and Rocky are watching the TV footage of the first fight.what the HELL was the cameraman doing inside the ring?
After 500 years they continue watching the franchise
Ironically this was Mr. T's first role, and it was as the bad guy, but he would go on to be one of the most beloved good guys of the 80's.
Supposedly he took his mom to the opening screening of the movie and she walked out at the point where he is cat calling Adrian during Rocky's press conference. When he asked her why she walked out, she told him, "I taught you better than that." This is probably what led to him always playing a good guy after this movie, as well as always telling people to respect their mom.
24:19 its quick little punches to the back of the head when the fighters clinch together.
Carl Weather's played 1 year in the NFL with Oakland Raiders, then 3 years in the CFL with BC Lions
By all accounts, Mr T is one of the nicest people around.
Rocky III has always been my favorite in the franchise…that Rocky / Apollo relationship is just pure gold!
Clubber Lang is one of the greatest antagonists in boxing movie history
He's my favorite character in the Rocky/Creed franchise
22:35 - CineBinge is very progressive, but damn, everytime George is thirsting over something made for that he gets called out by Simone, when Simone is thirsting George supports.
I’ve always loved that last still frame where they are both punching each other.
After more than two and a half movies of watching Rocky take monumental beatings, seeing him actually block and dodge is a joy to watch. The transformation he undergoes through Apollo's training is extremely gratifying.
Just "discovered" your channel recently, and have been bingeing your videos. You guys are just so gosh darn likeable!
Arturo Gatti vs Mickey Ward trilogy is one of the greatest trilogies in boxing. It also just so happens to mimic rocky 1, 2, and 3. I recommend looking into the history. R.I.P. Gatti
As a get older I enjoy this one’s themes of coming back and overcoming self doubt and friendship more and more
Cindarella Man is a must watch for a guy dragging himself and his family out of the depths of poverty through boxing and unlike Rocky, it's based on a true story.
rabbit punch is a punch to the back of the head or base of the skull which can cause paralysis or even death.
The scene where Adrian talks to Rocky on the beach is my favorite scene, and a great arc for her character, considering how she started out.
Love watching this series, and other movies of course with y'all. Can't wait to see the next one with you!!
my aunt is in rocky 4, she plays his maid, if you see the version with the robot , shes in the robot scenes. if its the new version, shes been removed with the robot.
My dad used to have one of those crop top shirts from his football days but he no longer had the body for it. It embarrassed my mom so much when he’d wear it at the lake or whatever. So she threw it out and denied knowing what happened to it. It was our family’s leg lamp moment.
The Rocky pinball machine was a real thing; there was one in the local pub at the time
Reporter: What's your prediction for tonight's fight?
Clubber: Pain.
Mickey's funeral scene is shot in the mausoleum of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It gets used in a lot of films, e.g. Julia's funeral in The Prestige.
@15:34 _Wait, this place looks familiar. Did they use this as a funeral place in a different movie?_
The closest to what you are referring to is *the funeral of Julia,* Angier's wife, who drowned during Milton The Magician's water-tank trick in the 2006 movie *The Prestige.* The "Corridor Mausoleum" in The Prestige was a smiliar looking but, I think, not the same.
First Blood released the same year as this. "Eye of the Tiger" was originally written and performed for this film
15:33 It kind of reminds me of the funeral scene in The Prestige, not sure if that's the movie George was thinking of here?
I can remember the "I pity the fool line before this movie. There use to be a sports show on Sundays, I think, called Wild World of Sports. One sport they use to run on there was amateur bouncers would compete each other in obstacle courses. I can remember Mr. T. being on a few episodes, mostly because his name made me laugh and he was always saying, "I pity the fool" during interviews.
I love how obvious it is in the intro that you've never seen the movie. Love you guys. Thanks for sharing!
Funerals and burials are sometimes different places (esp. when there are a lot of mourners). In these cases the burial usually only has the closest of friends and family. Most of the funerals I have been to have been like this with the church packed out but only a few people at the actual burial.
Fun one, you two! 😆Thanks for sharing it!
Peace All
He had his name legally changed to Mr. T. "Mr" is his first name, the "." is his middle name, and "T" is his last name.
I remember that from an episode of the animated series.
Still think about that moment.
I've watched all of the Rocky movies many, many times and this is my favorite of the films. A side note: Stallone gave a really nice speech during Hulk Hogan's wrestling Hall of Fame ceremony.
