This is great except I've missed 3 trains because I can't stop watching!
I love it!
Japan is so amazing. Awesome!!!
you can really see the vertical stretching of the shape as it approaches bottom, it helps visualize acceleration caused by gravity
This is just unbelievable
The force of gravity causes acceleration. The drops at the bottom are moving at a faster velocity because they've been falling for longer. Thus, they are more spread out by the time they reach the bottom and appear distorted
Quite a splash!
Love the sound of the crossing signs in the background.
I agree that it is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen...
How amazing country.. I'd love to visit it.
i so wanna see a dragon being done :D fave in this vid though is the music one
from what I can see it releases water from tiny pipes behind the lights at the top at precise intervals. like pixels on a screen.
that's why when it tells the time it all splashes at once with silence in between.
Japanese engineering at its finest.
wow.. amazing how light changes small details into something cooler..
@hillbillygeek In regards to A;
Terminal Velocity
A free-falling object achieves its terminal velocity when the downward force of gravity (Fg) equals the upward force of drag (Fd). This causes the net force on the object to be zero, resulting in an acceleration of zero.
Drag Coefficient:
In fluid dynamics, the drag coefficient (commonly denoted as: cd, cx or cw) is a dimensionless quantity that is used to quantify the drag or resistance of an object in a fluid environment such as air or water.
We're never gonna beat those people...
+Elizabeth Perri Two Atomic bombs did.
nope, came right back and surpassed again
Greetings from Poland :)
Check out this one - Wordfall.eu
Wordfall.eu Bad link. The Blank screen. Make some better links dude :/
Daithí Ó Connmhaigh classless
@seventhapex right, however I think that if they shot the water out at terminal velocity the display would "refresh" too fast for the human eye to make sense of it. (unless the fountain were really tall, I suppose)
@spiegel its what they like there? China think we're crazy for eating cheese purely because its not in their normal food range there but that doesnt mean cheese is a weird ingredient...
Japan has more positive input in the way they live their lives than the majority of countries in the world, joint with Scandinavia, Luxembourg, Andorra and Switzerland :)
i'd HATE that at the station :P
you haven't even got to work and already you need to pee!
That's brilliant! At first I thought it was just a constant flow of water with a projection on it, but seems like it's something much cooler.
@Imsmoke855 most things like that recycle the same water over and over. for instance, here in wichita falls texas, we have a man made waterfall--yet it literally uses no water other than what's in its reservoir.
They had something like this at Sensation this year! It was really cool.
It was great to see two children enjoying the fountain. Always awesome to have some happiness here and there :]
That's it, I'm moving to Japan. Gotta love any country that puts this sort of thought into its public infrastructure.
@Imsmoke855 The water gets cycled back via a pump. There might be a bit of extra water added to account for splashes and evaporation, but over the course of the day it would be no more than a few cups. The main thing that is being "wasted" is electricity, but then again there are a lot more wasteful uses of electricity than this to complain about. Besides, this one is cool :D
It's actually quite easy to do. It's like an ink printer. If the same thing can be done with ink or a laser, it can also be done with water.
I could watch this all day...
i can sit there all day long to watch it. Japan is just unbelievable
@hillbillygeek Well... but everything being moved through an atmosphere will have a terminal velocity without continued propulsion. Water can only fall so fast before the resistance equals the gravitational force. If that weren't the case, you'd die every time you got caught out in the rain.
It's just water droplets being released at different times from the top of the waterfall. Cool!
I think there was something like this in a Honda ad a few years ago.
It took me 10 seconds to realize what I was even looking at. This is amazing. And I love that 2.5 minutes in, a couple of kids walk into the frame and completely lose their shit over how incredible this is.
I can't believe I wasted 4 minutes of my life for something this AWESOME!
@Jaiden11 I share the same feelings with you. I also hope the water is cycling instead of being wasted.
Thank you for sharing this. It reminds me of my wonderful time in Osaka.
One of my housemates works for Rainfall Lab, the folks who build and program these waterfall dispays.
You might not get the scope of how large it is until the kids appear, when they do, your interest in the display will increase a bit more.
@littlepumpkin42 I imagine it's a closed system since you really need to keep tight pressure controls for a display like that.
@battousai9439 Except that, you know, Zuse's machine was unknown to and had no influence on any computers developed independently in the US.
woooowwwww!!! this is amazing. the engineers. the creative minds. their imaginations. woww. thank you for sharing this
This is cool. I wonder if when the water comes back down it is reused or it uses all that water.
Go to see a French Musical Flashmob at the station Haussman Saint-Lazare in Paris June 22th, 2011 on RUclips : To Hand The Torch The Musical
sick kicks brody
I love this and the fact that this is for a public facility
@tubaconrad There's a fountain like this in Medellín, Colombia.... but I guess a Japanese put it there....
I sure hope this water is cycling through the fountain system, which it should be anyway, because otherwise, indeed, it might look great, but man would it be a waste of water... but, I gotta say I'd love to have one of those at my main station. I could just spend... minutes looking at it.
this is amazing. Getting rid of the sounds would make this perfect!
The world needs more of these
The one who made this is talented and awesome!
Saw this last time I visited Osaka, amazing
@hillbillygeek Re: Point A, surely if you shot it out at the speed of it's terminal velocity, gravity could not accelerate it anymore?
that is just plain amazing..so sublime
@ItsMeChrisG What are you talking about? Do you think they can transport water all the way to africa? This device uses a fixed amount of water it's not wasted in any way.
I wonder if this thing can incorporate colored lights into it. That would be even cooler.
So beautiful
Amazing! I imagine it works with the same principle as an ink printer?
I'd love to see multiple layers for a 3D effect.
This is great. Art with technology. Thanks for posting.
@antipop11 i'm pretty sure it's the same water being used again and again
Wonderful! Osaka City: this fountain needs music!
That is the best water fountain I have ever seen!
Now in Japanese, courtesy of Google Translate:
それは私が今まで見た中で最高の水の噴水です!
@TheAliyouyou i think its like a bit of rapid prototyping
Truly amazing!! One of a kind!!
Japan, where even watching time fly is awesome.
It's takes 4 minutes of my life, so wonderful !
this is a great product, any suppliers for this in Singapore?
i could watch this forever
Holy mother of god. I could watch this for days.
@jpsalsman Because is the universal language and I guess, nah, i know it's a lot easier write in english than write in japanese. Have you seen the letters from both styles in the title?
it most likely gets filtered through and then gets pumped back up to the top and back out. im pretty sure they dont just let all that water run down the drain
@everlastingpleasure straws...or tubes that run water and stop it running on command
Truly amazing.
Looks awesome!
it would be even more impressive if they used a stroboscope to create the illusion that the water is going upwards.
But I guess you can't use that in a public area due to possible epileptic seizures...
how come this amazing art work has dislikes???
how?
this is wonderful, genious
thanks for sharing
beautiful
lol, you have to wait a minute to know the time again. That minute may be the most important minute of your life no matter how freakishly advanced and amazing that 1 minute display of water tricks is
I would watch this all day if I had one in my room.
simply... AWESOME...
Absolutely brilliant! Amazing Japan :)
How does the light remains in the falling stream of water once the light (emitter) is off and the water source is also off??????
Osaka Station City. You can reach on google to knows other info.
i dont think it's the projector. the sound corresponded with the water that dropped.
Great design.
this tube is so amazing! I really want go there!
FANTASTIC!
@SuperMl10 Duh... the question is why DON'T they?
I write from Brazil, and speaks: Japan its fantastic.
@DrDarkheart and yet it would somehow need 7 times the manpower, months to figure out, and cost about 100 times more than the original
