  • Brian Laudrup had a very short spell at Chelsea in 1998 before quitting the club on his own accord, being personally unhappy at the club.
The question is could he have become a Chelsea legend? Would he have been a success in the Premier League? Would Chelsea have won the league that year if he had stayed?

He sold a record number of FC Copenhagen Jerseys. In 1998. Which later got a 'fuck' written on top of them. When Brian had fled to Ajax Amsterdam,........

Chelsea were unprofessional in their dealing with him and messed him about no end. They told him when he arrived that he would be subject to squad rotation. It was never mentioned to him before. He asked for a transfer before he kicked a ball for them. He ended up at Ajax and did very well. Great player and Chelsea's loss.

He should never have joined Chelsea in 1998. If he joined Ajax in 1998 instead of 1999, Michael would have probably stayed for one more season at Ajax.

Awesome highlight. Laudrup passes to Zola... Mind blown.
As a young man I looked up to players like Brian.. now my nephews, kids etc are expected to look up to... I wont say any names because people will get upset.

Everytime I have Danish cookies, I think of that era ! I had so many sports cards of him (World Cup, Gold Cup). No money can give me back that collection. Those were the days when we used to deploy the same football techniques at our school football ground back home in Punjab.

He should have had a much better career considering his attributes - speed, dribbling ability, height, agility. Mentality is very important.

What was wrong with his career? He ended with league title medals, European Cup medal, domestic cup medals.
Internationally, he won the Euros with Denmark and another tournament with Denmark.
      The guy did well.

@@jacksonbow2766 he was never a main starter at AC Milan or Chelsea and he was relegated at Fiorentina. The best moments of his career were at Rangers in the inferior Scottish League. He could have been as good as Cristiano Ronaldo if he put his mind to it.

      @@ronniep9272 He wasn't a striker bud, he was a winger/attacking midfielder.
He was the reason that Denmark won the Euros. Oh and his brother Michael, who was and still is regarded as World Class never win the Euros in 1992 because he never played.
Brian Laudrup won several personal awards in the Bundesliga and also came 5th in the FIFA world player of the year.
He achieved those even though he had a bad knee injury at Bayern.
In Italy, he was screwed over really, he went to Fiorentina and in his first season they changed manager, going from a top team to a crap team that was relegated under the new manager.
As for Milan, it's hardly fair to criticise his time there considering the facts. 1, he was a loan signing, 2, Italian teams operated under strict foreign limits on their teams at the time (I think they still do) and 3, that Milan team was always rotating it's players every week.
Critics Rangers all you like and the league but it's still ranked 11th in the world and he was still able to move to Chelsea and the Ajax and perform brilliantly for both after so long in Scotland.
The reason he stayed in Scotland so long was because he found a club that actually treated him properly.
You compare to Ronaldo but Ronaldo only became the player he did because of Alex Ferguson. Had Fergie not signed Ronaldo then he would not be the big star he is today, Laudrup didn't get anyone like that until Walter Smith at Rangers.

@@ronniep9272 Oh and as for Chelsea, that club lied to him which is why he never stayed there. He was a winger and played in that role for them but they promised him first team football every week then once he git to the club after signing then told him that he would be rotated, which he never agreed to. They done and said lots of things that were different to the promises he was given when they were trying to sign him. That's why he asked to leave the Chelsea and then went an retired at Ajax.

@@jacksonbow2766 yes he was a winger/forward, I feel that he should have had as good a career as Luis Figo who was much slower. In today's game Laudrup would play left wing in a 4-3-3 formation.
