Hi, wife of a subscriber here & he just watched your video. Small suggestion - swap the lamp and the air purifier to opposite sides of the bed. You already have light from the window so the lamp would be better placed on the other side. Also unless you can adjust the top of the purifier to turn around - the phone charger is on the furthest side away from the bed where it currently is. So better placed with the table on the window side of the bed 👍🏻
Whereas I get the idea of making everything easy for guests, as a psychologist, I prefer to freak them out! I have been flattered that a few of our friends have incorporated similar SmartHome tech into their homes after seeing our for years. The most copied is the wall-mounted iPads, even if they don’t have an Apple Home.
Love this! The switch bot remote is perfect for the guest room. You should add some art on the walls or some plants to give it that hotel room feel you’re going for
Great planning Shane! One of your more useful presentations. I’ve mentioned here and elsewhere in the past, the same as you, for smart home tech to be useful and accepted, it has to be easily used or overridden by anyone in the house. As it is, my wife likes to say that I like smart home stuff - she calls it “gadgets”, because I’m a control freak and want to control everything. 😊
Awesome video Shane! The only thing I would’ve done different was had an electrician come out and put a electrical outlet behind the TV so the wire is hidden, but that’s just me… ;-)
Thanks Larry! I thought about doing that but decided against putting an outlet in the middle of the wall, just in case we ever want to rearrange the room (also for when we sell the house one day).
@ that’s true Shane but if you think about it, that’s the only place the bed could go in that room so putting the TV there permanently makes sense even to a new buyer but that’s just me. I think an electrician would probably cost you $100 to move the plug. I can’t stand hanging wires personally! But I understand your choice!
Looks fantastic. I would add under bed led light strips with a motion sensor. That way they don’t have to stumble around in the dark looking for how get to the bathroom
So how much do you charge a night to stay there. Lol. I wanna come visit. Haha. You’ve done such a great job Shane. Looks awesome and you’ve covered all the bases.
I was up to 4a reporting on that SwitchBot remote 😭 Great vid! You should TOTALLY spin this for Guest Room automation too. Something tells me you already thought of that tho 😉🍻
So when am I invited to stay! 😂. Looks nice and I like that you framed your idea as a hotel room. Looks clean. I’d like if you would do a vid about the process on hiding the tv power cord to clean it up further.
Great idea and grad guest room. I just have several automations for the present at home and plan to add more but I’ve a “stupid” question If tomorrow, you decides to sell your house, what will you do, specially with all the smart light switches ? Will you decide to sell them with you house (and in this case, how automation will work for the next owner …) or will you decide to replace these le switches y classical wires switches ?
I've thought about this and I'm not 100% sure yet what I'll do when it's time to sell the house. I have kept all the original light switches just in case I want to reinstall them and take all the smart switches with me to the new house. They are pricey and do add up. I would either do that, or I may decide it's not worth the trouble. In that case I'd leave the light switches and the Lutron hub for the next owner. Good thing about the light switches is that they work as regular light switches even if you don't want to use the "smarts." If they did, they would just have to reset the hub and configure the light switches themselves just like I did.
The lamp is a Yeelight smart floor lamp. It supports HomeKit so I can connect it directly to Apple Home. I've had it for years though, I'm not sure if it's still available anywhere.
Can you donate a video or tell me how to do the fan conversion, I have a hunter smart combo , but I’m looking to do that same conversion to be able to control the light and fan individually with switches
That’s a great use of smart home technology. Do you have a total cost for all the technology you added to the room? Oh, I’m hoping you’re adding some art work to the walls. BTW - You and your wife look far too young to have a 19 year old son.
I decided that I did not want to add an outlet behind the tv in case we ever decide to rearrange the room (or sell the house). An outlet in the middle of the wall would not look good if there was no tv there.
Poor Shane, wife’s approval is not the only thing he needs to be worried about, let’s add the subscribers/viewers to it as well! Great job Shane, doing it all by yourself.👍🏻

Great job on the room.
I’m completely with you, making smart homes, not to look techie has been my goal of the perfect smart home.
Great video

AWESOME , great video after long time❤👌🏻
Love these type videos and love the room!!! Looks great and the tech is top notch. Like you said, they will feel like they are in a luxurious resort.
Thank you!
This is an incredibly thoughtful and innovative implementation of smart home tech! I wish the guest rooms I stay in were as cool as your guest room 😆
love this idea and the room looks great! a picture or two on the walls could really give it that hotel look
Thanks! Yea we definitely need to add a picture or two on the walls to finish it up.
Great Video. Thank you for sharing.
This all looks and works pretty nicely.
Great vid, thanks! Just about to renovate our sleep out, so this is perfect timing!

Definitely!

Great work on the guest room. Nice ideas
Thanks for watching!
great video ... i appreciate the room analysis framework... would love to see other rooms
Awesome!!! When the new Apple TV comes out you can repurpose an old one to that room.
Great idea!
Very good!
Look good = Wife approval 😂 That's the way it should be. Awesome job Shane! I need to look into Switchbot more

Looks great, the air purifier table is awesome but it’s on the short side
Hi, Shane…so to get that ceiling fan and light to work, you simply pulled out the receiver and directly wired it?
Looks fantastic. I would add under bed led light strips with a motion sensor. That way they don’t have to stumble around in the dark looking for how get to the bathroom
I did think about adding a light strip either under the bed or behind the headboard. Nice suggestion!
This guest room might also be a good place to test out new tech when you may be reluctant to install it in other rooms first.
That’s pretty cool have that air purifier from SwitchBot my only issue with it is it feels to short
I used voice control for 2 years, but manual buttons still is king.
So how much do you charge a night to stay there. Lol. I wanna come visit. Haha. You’ve done such a great job Shane. Looks awesome and you’ve covered all the bases.
You aren't that old! :-O Nice room transformation

All right, I’ll be over! Where is the nearest golf course!
haha let's go!

Looks great, just like a luxury hotel. Where that lamp from? Is it a smart lamp or is it connected to a smart plug?
The lamp is a Yeelight smart floor lamp. It supports HomeKit so I can connect it directly to Apple Home. I've had it for years though, I'm not sure if it's still available anywhere.
Shane what is the color of walls in your studio please????
Very nice remote control, it is so unfortunate it requires a proprietary hub, hopefully future versions won't
How can I get these with a smaller budget?
Where is the mini bar😉

haha thanks for watching! Yes, we definitely need to add some artwork in the room... maybe a plant or two, to finish up the room.
Careful, your kid is gonna see this video and want to move back in
Since you were painting anyway, trying to figure out why the TV wires were not hidden.

Honestly the bedside table looks really bad. It looks like you just put a wooden lid on a air purifiers 😂
Daughter in there helping out just because she's so happy to have her gross Brother out of the house 🤣😋
Why Americans have guest rooms? Do Adult really do sleepovers ovet there?
Non American here, people have friends and relatives visit them from other parts of the country or even other countries.
