Haha! I remember doing this ❤️ What a fun and weird day 😂 For starters, they had no idea how to dress me since Wardrobe only had clothes for grown men, as their guests were typically ALL grown me. 😂 and I was a TINY kid, plus I had a botched perm so my hair was hopeless 😂. They literally put me in a man’s dress shirt with a weird 80s belt and an oversized hat to cover my ridiculous hair 🤣🤣🤣 Also, I does look like there’s some lip-synching but we absolutely were NOT lip-synching. The only reason it appears that way at times (and did on live stage too at times) was because they had samples of my voice in the keyboard to help fill out my vocals, since my vocals were dubbed so many times in the recording, they just sounded too thin in live performances (until they added the extra “vocals” from the keyboard) ❤️ The downside being that it sometimes gave the impression that I wasn’t really singing, but I was singing my little heart out 😂 Anyway, it was fun and thanks to all of my Dad’s fans for the nice comments. 💋
Just based on hearing this song I bought the CD back in...I guess it was 1989. I probably still have it somewhere. Much easier to find the song on RUclips than to find the CD in my closet.
I just want you to know, in case you are indeed Audie Belew, that this is simply fantastic, one of the most convincing definitions of father-daughter love.
@@dettigs That doesn't mean he's underrated, my friend. Not known well enough is more like it. Adrian Belew decided on his own to play a more esoteric type of music, putting himself in that sphere of guitarists who can play like hell but not get the attention they deserve.
This guy is so connected to his source of inspiration. It’s just it really is the only guy that makes me want to pick up my guitar as much as he does. No limits. I feel like he accepts himself And it’s just doing things on a different level
This is a wonderful song, I use to sing this to my daughter, now she is 28, brings back fond memories, when she was a little girl...Thanks Adrian and Audie Belew, we have the same bond.
Who Googled Adrian Blue, Oh Baby, after Steve Carell saying it on Ellen's Burning Questions, and this video was the closest that came up on the search?
My goodness the things I randomly find on yotube I didn't know existed. Adrian Belew may have never gotten that big hit but to me he is one of a handful of Mozarts of our time.
This live version was a real treat to see and hear. I remember this song so well. I was the music director at a small radio station in Ithaca, NY at the time this song was originally released. I was instantly hooked on the song. It makes me smile every time I hear it and to see this live version is just great. It's been years since last hearing the song. Thanks for posting this. Brought back some great memories and feelings.
at 1:50 hear what i expect to see mentioned more often - his singing which is POWERFUL and accurate sliding through long spans of notes. That out of a small body as his? His voice is as good as his guitar. The greatest example of his singing is the lovely song "Men in Helicopters"
This song makes me wish I had kids of my own, so I could be inspired to write a song as catchy and magical as this one. It's a great song and a cute kid!
This song and video on MTV ( '89) always reminds me of my first born Daughter, Jessica who was three at the time. Such sweet times and beautiful video! This live version is just great!
I was just following some king crimson vids when I stumbled upon this. I never heard it before. Watching the goofy joy of this talented man has filled me with joy.
I love it, just love it and I have to say I love it. Adrian's got a kool singing voice and the guitar work is beautiful. It's fun to watch Audie singing with her dad. Man, would I love to hear him play the blues. Story...I had my car on display at a car show in McCormick Place in Chicago in 1989. I was shocked to have Adrian Belew and his family stop to check it out. So surprised, in fact, that I couldn't get up the nerve to speak to him. Damn!
The first time I heard this song back in 89' on WXRT in Chicago, while I worked at Impressions Handprinter's on Lakeland and Belmont. I still Love this Song.
Hi, Audie - My daughter, Jen, just sent me this. I knew you when you were a little, little child and Jen babysat for you. We saw Adrian last night at The Space in Evanston and had a great time. My husband, Ted, wrote a good interview of you all for Lake Geneva Magazine. It's great to see the performance and hear the song again. Always think about you when I pass that house on my walks. I hope you are well and send you lots of hellos!!! - Trish Schaefer
I kinda listened to all King Crimson's discography without knowing anything about the band in fact, their members, etc, and then I started to search on Internet and found this boy, it sounds amazing. Loved him!
This is from season 2, episode 3 of "Michelob presents... Night Music" hosted by David Sanborn (originally titled "Sunday Night" in it's first season, and hosted by Jools Holland). This was broadcast in 1989.
love ADRIAN.. HE has been on my show . twice!!!!!!!!!!! wusb.fm NY -WAXX TRAXX TO THE MAXX.. Looking forward to the show in April at SUFFOLK Theater>> RIVERHEAD NY
Audie. First time I saw your dad solo -at the Bottom Line in NYC -he sang Man in the Moon, and I melted. I was/and still am in love with Lone Rhino album. Since then I’ve seen him 1/2 a dozen times both solo (Joe Papp’s small space- Joe’s Pub--awesome) and in both the Remain in Light tour at Radio City, and with David Bowie (was it the Spider’s tour?) in a stadium in NJ. Although a big arena, I stood right in front of stage, center. Missed the last Iridium performance: hope to see him again, soon. Great to see/hear you sing: you are wonderful. This was almost a decade ago. Hope you are continuing to sing/perform. But whatever you do, continue to be joyful.😻 Virtual hugs to you and your dad.
Makeup makes You elder, Audie. But your father is so happy seeing You. Until this time, I watched videoclip with this song, I had imagined something like that ballad "We are sailing to Philadelphia" Absolutely with B3 Hammond organ!!!!
Mr. Music Head also generated a hit single (No. 5 on the US Modern Rock chart) in the shape of "Oh Daddy," on which Belew duetted with his 11-year-old daughter Audie.
ONE OF MY VERY FAVORITE GUITARISTS I SAW HIM PALYING GUITAR FOR BOWIE 1978. THE SOUNDS THAT HE MADE COME OUT OF THE GUITAR WAS INCREDIBLE. I'VE FOLLOWED HIS CAREER EVER SINCE. ALSO KING CRINSOM, TALKING HEADS..
Whenever I'm feeling down in the dumps it's music like this that really lifts me up. Cool to say an awesome dad and a happy kid singing along. I also like Boney M's "Rasputin" but that's another story ;)
AD is love and respected by guitar geeks like myself and, many different music fans. These days he plays a Parker Fly. I like when he uses a Strat myself.
His Parker also has a Sustainiac and pizeo pickup which is used 1) on its own (or in combination with other pickups), 2) to run the Variax, and 3) as a hexaphonic MIDI pickup, so it's pretty versatile to take out on the road and in the studio. The only surprise is he didn't include any other, more conventional wiring tricks like phase switches, coil taps, etc. He's said that is he wants a Strat sound on a record, he still uses a Strat.
For everyone who is commenting on Adrian including his daughter Audie in this song, there was a much earlier little song tidbit with Audie on Adrian's debut solo album, "Lone Rhino". The final track of the album is "Final Rhino". It's a minute and a half recording of 4-year-old Audie plinking on the piano, which Adrian secretly recorded. He then added spacey guitar over the top of the gentle and not-quite-dissonant piano. ruclips.net/video/bzOTiEkMfa0/видео.html
The video was her idea his daughter wanted to sing with him in the studio so came out with the video that made number 5 on the billboard charts i couldn't find anything if she has her own music out but had a great voice back then.

I just want you to know, in case you are indeed Audie Belew, that this is simply fantastic, one of the most convincing definitions of father-daughter love.
I *ultimately* love this song! That think that it's so great when a performer includes their child. And she's so talented! ❤
Best father-daughter video ever? I say yes
adrian belew........one of the most underrated musicians ever!

The master of King Crimson singing a song with his daughter....Music is supposed to be like this.
Look, I love Belew, but there is ONE master of King Crimson, and its name is Fripp. C'mon now.
Adrian is just so cool in addition to being such an incredible singer, songwriter, and of course, guitarist. He just makes you smile when you see him.
