Yeah, I agree she played with some amazing bands in Norway and always rises to the occasion. I love this song, though, and when she uses this tone It's magic.
One hundred percent agree. It feels like a turning point for Angelina, which path is she going to take? Lets hope it's the one she truly deserves, the heady route that takes her to the top. Hang around at the junction too long and public attention will turn elsewhere.

Absolutely Angelina deserves to have the best band possible. Angelina did a decent job, recreating the reflective mood she displayed on the studio recording.
Finally someone is saying what needs to be said. She is an all world singer, but her band is holding her back. I have been to 4 of her 5 US concerts. Though she is fabulous live, she carries the bands instead of the bands being solid. I agree she needs regional studio caliber JAZZ musicians for her live performances. I would love to help her get a Nashville group together for some southeastern shows (yes, Nashville has lots of fabulous jazz studio musicians).

Thank you for your honesty about the band. I was never a fan of them as the correct band for Angelina. I prefer her band in Norway.
Agree with you 100% about some of the musicians in the band and the changes that Angelina needs to make to become the world class superstar she deserves to be. Her rise to the top seems to have slowed down lately.
Thank you A-Aron that was a very insightful reaction and show a deep caring for our Angelina, I listened to the studio version and agree with your assessment with the drummer but this was a single source video and audio from a cell phone, I will wait for James to put out in December a multiple source video of this song to get better audio quality to judge this one fully. I also want to point out in your description section, the original video link is NOT "Driving Home For Christmas".

I'm glad to hear you say what I've been feeling about this band. They are good but not the caliber of musicians Angelina needs to support her talent. True fully, I like her little Norwegian quartet with her better than these guys. I hope they can get a group that can support her completely. Something absolutely came off the rail in this number and I'm not sure what caused it, but I can certainly hear it. Glad to have you back with Angelina.
Well said Aaron.I remember someone reporting a few years back that AJ's band back in Norway felt that soon they couldn't keep performing with her because her level was getting beyond their own abilities to match her.
They were being extremely modest.
I've always thought the band was lacking and falling far short of her level. She needs a quality music director that can maintain quality any where she performs. Professional management can make sure she has the best sound man , lighting and production coordinator to maintain the quality of her shows. Did rock and roll for years and the best shows had the best support.

PS : ARON It was all arranged in this Christmas 🤶 Show December 23rd, 2021 by Republic Records and especially by Rob Christie, because he knows all the legendary musicians personally, including Jimmy Z'! Now Angelin is without Republic Records and Rob Christie! How is she supposed to put together a professional music band that is at her "LEVEL"?? All professionals play for a living and can't just quickly appear with Angelina at one of her shows when Angelina needs them! Angelina would have to give a lot more live performances at larger events with 40,000 people or more, and on a regular basis, so that she could travel around the world 🌍 setting up and rehearsing with a professional band, so that everyone earns enough to live on! And that is Angelina's big problem! Angelina is far too good at "OUTSTANDING SINGING" 😲 and still too young to start this global career 🌍! Unless she would be so lucky that she would find all of her professionals in a short space of time 🤷♂️! We have to give her time until she has all of the professional musicians 🎻 together! @@rogergraetzer5992 your comment is what I was trying to convey. I realize Aaron also has AJ’s interest at heart, but I also feel this amazing singer needs to be discovered by larger numbers, and a more diverse audience before she can make the changes Aaron suggested. From what I’ve heard the current band has become better at each concert, and Angelina will gain a wider (and larger) audience with every song she releases.

HI A-Aron, first, I'm not a musician, so I don't have the ear for the details as you do. However, regarding this transition, where you were especially pointing out the drummer just going on, have a listen to the released studio track at about 2 minutes in: Because regarding the drums, it's just the same there. What is different is, that Angelina on the track again repeats the line "just the same", before the sax is than taking of again, while here she is only humming a bit. So that part on the track is still a relaxed continuation of the section before, and does not need to have that much of a change at that point.
And there is a rehearsal clip (I'll try to give the link in a reply to this comment), that I think starts with this part, where we can hear, that there she also repeats that line "just the same".
Now, Angelina doesn't sing "(he's) just the same" there at all at the concert, and also not the prior phrase "Take a look at the driver next to me" . Instead she first repeats "It's take some time, but I'll get there" instead, and just hums during the "transition". So I guess Angelina did forget the lyrics there, and the drummer was not aware of what she would be doing there, so he just continued as rehearsed as she needed to recover.

Yeah it's a COMPLETELY different feel here with more space, etc. That's EXACTLY what I'm referring to. A higher caliber musician would have handled it differently
It may be that they could have had better musicians for this concert. But the legendary musicians you mentioned that were in the 2021 Christmas concert were NOT (other than Jimmy Z) in the studio for Driving Home for Christmas, which was presumably recorded sometime in 2023. Credits are: Randy Cooke, drums. Rob Christie, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Synthesizer. Jimmy Z, saxophone.
Again, studio musicians. Watch The Wrecking Crew documentary and it will put this in focus.

I couldn't agree more. Apart from Jimmy Z, the other musicians weren't up to scratch, but two comments: firstly, this has rarely happened up to now, as AJ has always sung surrounded by great performers, and secondly, the problem may also be due to the recording, which makes the orchestra sound distant. But there's no denying that the studio version of this song is light years ahead of this live version.
Jimmy Z was the sax player both on the EP and the live performance.

You can be one of the greatest singer's but if the band are not at her level then your letting her down and the fan down she deserves the best musicians around her

For me this song is an elevator type of background music.THERE IS no WOW factor to the song. Angelina sings the soul out of it, but it’s just not a stand out song.
I think the band is transitional. I think the guitarist has some real potential, but is a bit timid. The back up singers are buried and do not stand out. The drummer may be the weakest link, but most band members get their Que from the pianist.
I was the lead singer and played guitar in a little combo over Fifty years ago. It was was all just for fun doing school dances and staying busy staying out of trouble. My “expert”(haha) opinion is the same as yours. Angelina is capable of leading ANY group of musicians. I’d propose the KORK orchestra from Norway as an example. At this point I think $$$$$$$$ are the dividing factor.
Once AJ has a solid HIT song the wanna bees will flock to her. Thank GOD for Jimmy Z, Toby G and Rob Christy for what he took on and dedicated so much time to.

In defense of the band I think the keys and pads were mixed a little low in this live performance. In the studio version you can clearly hear a lot of wonderful piano riffs and some tasty muted guitar licks which added to the bouncy floating nostalgia of the song. There were a lot of layers in the backing track. In this live performance they were not there and the keys could be only heard in the intro. Perhaps they couldn't add those because of copyright reasons with Republic or they just chose to strip it back to just the live instruments. I heard it live and thoroughly enjoyed this performance. This recording didn't do this song justice. Even my own recordings sounded better
That being said I agree that we all long for the days when Angelina shares the stage with other world class musicians. I think this band is solid however and helped Angelina put on a great show throughout the evening.❤

So a live version, one of 18 songs that for the most part were absolutely amazing, wasn’t on par with a studio version where talent was brought in to record one track…. Meanwhile, while “her level” is definitely in the stratosphere, she hasn’t built a following or been selling out Arenas that would justify bringing on musicians that are all Grammy winners. Hopefully these younger band members will help bring more fans that don’t all have gray hair, or in the case of some reactors, at least have some hair of any color. I just feel negative comments may not be the best thing for growing AJ’s fan base. Are you going to help pay for a team, or teams as you suggest. What Angelina needs right now is to get television late night air time, and Feb 14 is right around the corner. Sorry if this seems like more of a rant, but it’s nothing compared to your reaction about this one “seasonal” song she added to a Christmas Album set.

Do you think Angelina would benefit from professional management? It's good that she has family support, but perhaps she and the rest of them need to be pushed. Can you imagine her firing somebody?
It's hard to say. My IGNORANT and FROM A DISTANCE perspective is 100% yes! But...the reality is often different and I don't know much of anything about the reality of what is going on so hard to say
In terms of firing someone... I go on a huge rant in the upcoming video you'll see next about the choices she needs to make. I did not hold back and I feel I may actually lose some subscribers but honestly I'm never afraid (as you know) to speak my mind and I believe the truth is she needs to really change some things

I hear what you are saying Aaron, the band is good but it's not on the same level as Angelina Jordan, she has to stay at the level or pace they are playing, Angelina Jordan has world class experience under her belt; but the band does not; but the guitar player with the hat is great, him and Jimmy-Z play off each other very well and the backup singers are great too, the band would have to get the same world class experience as Angelina Jordan but that would take time, could the band learn to get to Angelina Jordan's level in a year if they did lots of live shows, I wonder, maybe if each person in the band could work with the greats that you mentioned for a year like an apprentice, that could help, there is way too much bass drum, it's just lack of experience, Angelina Jordan said its her band so, just stuck with learn as you go I guess, Angelina Jordan has packed 30 years of experience and practice into 11 to 12 years of singing, the original song in the Christmas ep was like smoothe and soulful and hopeful sounding; but this band was just boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom, just blowing up the song into a mess of sounds that drown out Angelina Jordan's voice, one more thing, the drums are the heart of the band, it sets the flow and beat of the band, I will say it, the drummer is not that good, or the band leader is making the drummer only play one way, if they could get a world class drummer to teach the drummer of the band a crash course in a year, then this should bring up the level of the band 🙏

@@A-AronReacts It most certainly is. It certainly isn't any type of of constructive criticism other than belittling working musicians that have been selected by Angelina. The fan cams don't give the musicians a far shake. I've attended a concert by Angelina where a certain minority percentage of fans were overly critical of the musicians. They were fine from where I was sitting and where several other attendees were sitting. It's by far not a good idea to sit front and center of any concert if you want the best audio for viewing or recording. Comparing a live performance to recording in a studio is ridcuous! You very well know that a studio can manipulate sounds in anyway they want to guaranteeing practically ANY performance to sound good. In this way you are doing a disservice. You had some misinformation on the use of certain musicians used for the studio recording in the first place. Besides, I would go to an Angelina concert if it was completely acapella and always prefer live performances over any studio recording!

I don't how much Angelina is watching reactions on RUclips, so I have always been careful with what I say, being a LONG time supporter of her. But here's the thing... I haven't enjoyed this band at all; I think they are lacking a lot of skills. There ARE exceptions, but it should have been the other way around. IF she could have found a band like the one she has been playing with here in Norway, it would have been a completely different ballpark. But given time, there is a chance that they will fuse together, though I am a bit doubtful. Sad to feel this way, but I am 🥺
