Villela and Nureyev were important inspirations for me almost fifty years ago, enriching my life as I attempted to dance. I was not very good but I loved trying it.
I saw Edward Villella dance with NYCB at Blossom Center in Ohio....his "Prodigal Son" was so gorgeous and meaningful I became on of those...a balletomaine!! He has given so many years to his profession, and we Americans are so grateful!!! George Balanchine had an eye for excellence, and his influence on Villella is/was so profound!!!
George BALANCHINE, Was NO GENIUS, when he gave the directorship over to Peter Martins, the greatest bland dancer in ballet history and never inspiring any boys into the ballet world. The great VILLELA did inspire boys into the ballet world myself included and I'm sure VILLELA was heartbroken by Blanchine's decision to hand over the company to Martins, an insufferable boring dancer and less than mediocre choreographer. EDWARD VILLELA, you are loved, appreciated and respected by all of us who saw and experienced your spirit firsthand on the great stage of the NYCB. BRAVO!!!! YOU should have inherited the NYCB from Balanchine!!!
He was such a powerhouse on stage, all manly, strong, handsome, powerful

What a joy to hear Villellaspeak about his experiences. I had the privilege of seeing him dance these famous Balanchine roles at NYCB.
Great video from a great artist. More young people should listen to his words.
