It's got a nice headphone amp and is good for KATO. The only alternative that comes to mind is the FX-Audio DAC-M1 which is also nice and has a handy headphone/line out auto switch function.
thank you for the review, been looking forward for this unit. Have you any idea how this stacks up against the Ifi Zen Dac? That in my mind is the biggest competition as an “all-in-one”
The TOPPING has more input options (coax + optical) and a much higher output power on the headphone amp. On the other hand, Zen has bass boost and a balanced headphone out. Both very compelling units and both sound amazing. It really comes down to which features you prefer.

3.5 has nothing to with Cheap or Expensive. You can also use Cables with 3.5 Connector on High End Headphones and many come with a pair of these. The benefit is that 6.3 is very easy to adapt down to 3.5. The Other way is way more... stupid looking.
6.3 is significantly more durable than the 3.5. The difference is just massive. 6.3 is standard in studios for that single reason, lasts 10+ year's and we all used smartphones and we know how long 3.5 lasts. 3.5 alone is the reason why I would never but this product.
Sennheiser 560s most people consider a VERY GOOD headphone for 90% of people out there. It terminates into a 3.5mm 😎 just saying, 6.35mm is not the best. And actually, many people would argue that balanced is the way to go over the others. End of the day, don't gatekeep, you should encourage everyone to enjoy their music to the best they can
Hi, I've been wondering if this can drive sundara to maximize its potential. I've been eyeing for 1. zen dac v2 + zen can 2. Schiit stack heressy (not locally available so might be hard to get it here in PH) 3. Dx3pro+ I also ordered Sony CD900ST which will be delivered by mid Feb. Or can you suggest a much better dac + amp combo ( my budget is 400$ ) combined Thank you so much!
Yes, all 3 you listed are good with Sundara. I'd say the ifi Zen stack would give you the most versatility if you want to get a balanced cable/IEM/headphone in the future.
Thanks for the review! This or Zen Dac V2 for Sundaras? Looking for a 'pleasant'(not necessarily reference) listening experience. Zen dac is a bit cheaper and runs off of USB power, which is tempting. Apparently, it measures worse, but warms up the Sundaras. This has better measurements and extra power. Will it actually make a difference as some would have it?
Either one is nice for the Sundara. Like you say, Dx3 Pro + has more power but the Zen has more than enough as well. If you go the Zen route, I'd suggest you get the V2.
@@PrimeAudioReviews Thanks so much! One more: does it make sense to add a zen can to this setup? If the zen dac has enough power on its own, would I be buying anything more than sound effects(3d etc)? Some swear the Can makes all the difference compared to the dac alone but I'm not sure they're not simply trying to justify another purchase. I wanna know what I really need to get the Sundaras to come close to giving their best:) Cheers and all the best!
@@zaq9339 In my opinion, adding the Can is unnecessary, unless you specifically feel that the DX3 Pro Plus doesn't have enough power output on its own. If you think adding another amp is necessary then perhaps you simply don't like the tonality of the Sundara and should consider different headphones rather than adding more components to your audio chain.
@@PrimeAudioReviews Alright then, so it's down to which dac/amp combo of the two sounds better to me as both have sufficient power to drive headphones like the Sundaras. Adding a separate amp is diminishing returns in my case. This makes my life easier :) Much appreciated!

High gain. I. Usually listen at about 25%
@@PrimeAudioReviews oh ok. Thanks. I recently got those Sundara's you mentioned, and also the Sennheiser 560s.
I'm deciding between the two, which one I should watch my first movie with.
hmm😏
@@PrimeAudioReviews
Did you mean at -25 decibels?
Can it perfectly drive HD800s? New to headphones. If yes, How should i connect them to my macbook pro?
Great video by the way. Gonna Subscribe
Yes, it can drive HD800s. You connect it to your macbook with usb cable.
@@PrimeAudioReviews I Am subscribed! One more question..Can DX1 also drive Hd800s as it have correct port, so dont have to buy an adapter
LOVED THAT YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR VIEWERS!
thank you so much
I'm confident the DX1 would be fine but without having any HD800s to test I can't say for sure, so take it with a grain of salt.
а как вы думаете, этот намного лучше будет SMSL DO200 ?
Lower harmonic noise? Noice.
Grazie, ottimo lavoro
3.5 is not weird, most headphones have 3.5mm, why use a bulky adapter if you dont need it :D
high-end headphones uses almost always 6.3, the cheap ones uses 3.5 (headsets) with some exceptings ofc
Then its even more sensible to have 3.5mm by your reason.
I've been eyeing for
1. zen dac v2 + zen can
2. Schiit stack heressy (not locally available so might be hard to get it here in PH)
3. Dx3pro+
I also ordered Sony CD900ST which will be delivered by mid Feb.
Or can you suggest a much better dac + amp combo ( my budget is 400$ ) combined
Thank you so much!
Yes, all 3 you listed are good with Sundara. I'd say the ifi Zen stack would give you the most versatility if you want to get a balanced cable/IEM/headphone in the future.
bro, ano kinuha mo dac/amp? sundara din gamit ko, gusto ko sana ung neutral sound kasi for mixing and mastering purpose ko.
Work for me, thanks.
Hello! Can i use 20V 2A power supply to improve sound quality or it will burn my Topping? 😥
i bought this dac. it sounds clinical and crispy but it's not musical. Feels like each instrument is playing in a separate room.
Do the PS5 and XSX work with this?
I don't have any game consoles to test with.
Does this only work on bluetooth or it can also be connected to a pc directly?
It can be connected to a pc via USB or optical.

This makes my life easier :)
Much appreciated!
ALMOST perfect, if only it comes with 6.35mm and type C instead....
Not a fan of Sabre sound, this is a good unit though from what I discovered.
It's not David, but hands of David. Saying your name without showing face is same thing as greeting someone and asking about his life while watching somewhere else.
Critic should be constructive, so: your manner of speaking is nice and kind of "fellow" type. That's why seeing the face would do this video even better.
Video itself is good and you good as well, just combine these things 👍🏽
If only it could transmit Bluetooth as well. I have been thinking about replacing my BTA30 with one of these as I've just got into [wired] IEMs but I guess I'd have to keep both as I have Bluetooth earbuds and headphones.
Nice review BTW, thanks.
That would be cool
I thought it does bluetooth? No?
@@abemassri5929 I'm assuming bluetooth in but not out.
Only 3.5mm. That’s insane. Lots of power and a lovely display. What were they thinking. I wouldn’t buy a DAC without balanced headphone connections.
A balanced jack would please me too!
They'll add that on the DX3 Pro+ Max
A balanced headphone connection could possibly be an inexpensive add on for Topping. But I suspect a true balanced amp circuit would add $$ complexity to the design.
great great great device STFU!!

No. 🙅
Crap full of random popping and clicking sound. Tested TWO of these units, upgraded to 1.25 and they both the same. Returned.
I won t buy nothing untill they put Bluetooth 5.3.
You might be waiting for quite some time. 😁
@@PrimeAudioReviews I don t think so.Chinese are workaholics
why do u want to pay more while u get same thing (BTA30 pro) for less.
Because the FiiO doesn't have a headphone amp?
@@PrimeAudioReviews this comparison is what I'm looking for, can't find any reviews between both of them online. Say if I do not need to use it with headphone, bta30 pro will work wonder if it's just between TV optical/bt ldac and output speaker?
Sorry, but the ballanced do actually sound better, the difference is so obvious in every aspect of the sound. If you can't hear it it's sad and this hobby is not for you.
Lol😂😂😂
Bless ya kid...
Bought it a few days ago, top-notch for music in FLAC. I got one question to you people though. It's my first DAC, and I'm curious if I can utilize the sound card with it to get advantage or SBS or equalizer. I game also a bit and got a sound blaster zxr and a z5500 as Dolby for my pc and HIFI headsets besides. (Sennheiser HD 560s,dt990 pro, akg etc. Is it even remotely possible?
Saw on a forum someone asking more or less the same. One said to him yes but didn't say how lol. I'm gathering intel. In USB ofc it works, sound quality even in game is better than the Zxr but the EQ ain't good (using peace for it). Positioning is a bit non-existent. Let s say it compensates a bit because I can hear from beyond, but it's all confusing
Now I've tried to link in optical my sound card to the Pro plus to get the best out of both, and it's making a grzzzzjjjjjjt continuously.. don't know how you experts call that.
I've asked a friend from afar dj he said that this noise would be a routing problem eventually... but could it be a setting somewhere I'm missing to set to just say hey I want this as master and this one as slave. So far it's a bit Chinese to me, but I'm learning...
