A Walk Through the Milwaukee Public Museum

    A friend and I visited the Milwaukee Public Museum, and have been there numerous times before, with my earliest memories around when I was in 1st grade. Almost all of the exhibits of the three floors have been covered in this video. You may notice I take most interest in the beautiful full-size and miniature dioramas. The new building complex to house the museum will be projected to open in early 2027, and it is said that exhibit space of the current building will be cut in half for the new complex. The current building suffers bad roof leaks, leaky pipes, a leaky basement and other issues, and it's said it is beyond repair. I always loved the maze-like layout with the winding, dark corridors that makes the wonderful experience of being there. The new building design looks like three waste baskets! WHAT A PILE OF UNSIGHTLY RUBBISH! I do admit some of the exhibits have dated and/or worn out elements. I am all for updating the museum and sprucing up for a new generation but am highly concerned what this new museum will bring.
    So enjoy this video of the Milwaukee Public Museum as it is now, all in its pre-COVID-19 Glory!

    I don't know about everyone else. But when I was a kid, that T-Rex exhibit used to scare me to death! I've been wanting to go back to the museum for years. Was one of my favorite places as a kid. I remember all the tours we took there in school. Thanks for uploading.

      No problem! the T-rex scared me when I was little too, mainly the noises that played on the speakers! I also was afraid of the oceans exhibit where you descend the curving corridor and see underneath the "ocean" thru the portholes.

      It is pretty awesome, but their T-Rex statue while accurate, such as it doesn't drag its tail, is a bit dated and looks a little toy-like compared to some of the latest T-Rex statues I've seen. I can't remember which museums they were, but there's at least two out there that have better looking T-rex statues. Also, the triceratops' eye is way too close to the horn. Though as a whole this is one of the best museums out there for sure.

I can't wait to be back in the museum in person, but this will truly help me wait until we can go back. I recall that the beautiful diorama of the Indians hunting buffalo (around 25 minutes into your video) included a “secret” button near one corner that would activate a rattlesnake’s tail! Was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Junkpile in the “Urban Habitat” exhibit but seems that exhibit was removed back in 1988! Ah, well …

    Thanks for your work in documenting this spectacular place! I recently visited the MPM myself for the first time, and like you, I'm interested in helping to document it before it's gone. I spent five full days in there taking photos of every panel of every exhibit (including the accompanying text) and I'm working on getting them organized into what will hopefully be a permanent virtual archive of the museum once it's gone. (Don't think i'm allowed to post links in youtube comments, but it's on flickr)
    Anyway, I wanted to reach out because unfortunately, I arrived too late to capture some of the museum's most iconic exhibits, which have already been removed. I was wondering if you'd be willing to let me use a screenshot from your video to fill in one of the gaps in what I was able to capture? In particular, I am referring to the wall of Navajo rugs seen at 37:25 in your video. Haven't been able to find any other images of that online. But with your permission I would like to add it to the "Southwestern" album and of course I will give you appropriate credit!

    Thank you for having this video now that that museum will be gone, and so many exhibits will not go into the new museum. Streets of old Milwaukee and the European village. I am sure all the tiny exhibits that go back to the early 1900's will be put into storage or sold to other museums. Those are antiques. I agree that the new built museum is just a fancy building that did not even need to be smaller and modern. There are so many things in the museum that can't be moved at all. They should auction things off to millionaires who could put a whole exhibit into their house or another building for safe keeping. How are they going to honor all the artwork that it has? When the building is demolished and all the parts that can't be removed inside people will cry as it comes down. Of course the buildings in the Streets and European houses will all be removed of all their artifacts, and only empty rooms will be left .

    • @AndyMicoley1995
      @AndyMicoley1995  Год назад +1

      You are welcome! The high up “elites” who run the museum don’t care and don’t want to listen to the people. They only want to promote their new propaganda, want to erase history, cost cut, etc. It would be a miracle if someone took over that had a heart for the current museum and fixed the problems in the building and also update and refresh any outdated exhibits. Only our Lord knows.
