  • Sara Dolnicar is a social scientist and tourism researcher with a PhD in Business Administration, Marketing, and Tourism from Vienna University of Economics and Business. Through her tourism research, Sara develops and tests ways to encourage tourists to waste less water, energy, and food while on vacation. Sara looks at how small and “painless” behavioural changes in the billions of tourists generated each year can significantly reduce the negative impact of tourism globally, and create a more environmentally sustainable industry. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Hi everyone, I had no idea I could talk to you here! That's brilliant. Thank you so much for all your kind comments. I had a great time preparing this talk and I am totally committed to pursue this line of research into the future. It has honestly been the most satisfying research I have worked on - along with my work on attracting high quality foster carers. Most of these studies, whether they were conducted by my colleagues and me or by other research teams around the world, contribute to theory, but they also lead to immediate practical recommendations for businesses, allowing them to reduce their environmental footprint and - often - also reduce their operating cost. Anyway, sorry, I am getting carried away. Thanks a lot for your kind comments!

Brilliant presentation. Watching this is just like having an exciting summary of all journal articles I have read authored by Prof Dolnicar. You make tourism research exciting and project it as the most important for human development.

Thanks for advocating for Tourism Researchers. I love the content and visualization of your presentation. Does anyone know what tool Dr. Dolnicar uses to create her presentations?

I am so sorry to say it's not a tool you can purchase. That would be great! It is a beautiful human called Josh who used to work in the multimedia unit of my university and was able to assist with the illustration of this talk. He is a real artist. Sadly he now works in a different area and I am back to boring pre-made icons.

@@saradolnicar2388 I said this because josé Manoel gândara, a brazilian researcher that is good with internationalization joked about this in an event when somebody asked about how he can do some works and he said the name of one student of the PhD. Hahaha
