I like to use a balanced 10-10-10 water soluble miracle grow fertilizer. I dilute it to around the 300-500 ppm range, testing with my tds meter. I can then use syringes to put the fertilizer in the pitchers. I do this about once a week and see great results. I haven’t seen any burning with this method since the fertilizer is so diluted. The reason I don’t like osmecote is because the pellets create really concentrated fertilizer at the bottom which risks burning. Since I don’t feed bugs I don’t have to worry about diluting the pitcher fluids. Also I like to test how strong of a fertilizer my plants can take on older pitchers like you showed in the beginning. Truncata is an absolute tanks being able to take around 2200+ ppm
I use Osmocote on older pitchers and spray my plants with Maxsea once a month. I know it might be excessive and granted I sometimes overload the pitchers but they are growing like BEASTS. Great beard, by the way!
Nice, that is awesome!!! I think I could probably increase my feeding a bit. I am conservative on it for sure. Thank you! I can’t keep the beard from growing lol. You would think that I fertilize it, bahahahaha
That’s awesome!!! Yeah they are addictive lol. They are amazing plants for sure! Keep me posted on how they are doing and let me know if you have any questions! What are the three that you got?
@Carnivorousplanthelp I got the nepenthes (maxima × campanulata) × veitchii "The Wave" ,car-0070, nepenthes cecilia, Be-3956, and nepenthes song of melancholy × campanulata, car-0129
Wow!!! Those are going to be gorgeous!!! Should be easy growing, handle a wide range of conditions, have amazing color and beautiful pitcher shapes!!! Great choices!!!
Osmocote kicks butt, but hard on pitchers. I've used them on smaller pitchers too, but usually use the smallest pellet I can find, sometimes kills the pitcher. Also great for Sarracenia.
Do you know the proper ppm for a maxsea fertilizer? I did the 1/4 teaspoon into a gallon of water and I think the ppm was too high Also, I moved my other nepenthes plants off to the side to not be directly under my grow light. Maybe that will help the leaf size, get bigger, and not so red.
I’ve been fertilizing my nepenthes with Maxsea once a month. Lightly spray them. The ppm of the fertilizer is 245 is that too high? I just recently sprayed my plants. Can I feed them bugs or should I wait a month?
I've had my Monkey Cup (napenthes hyb is what it says on the info card) for about a week. Swatted a few flies to daze them and drop them into a pitcher with tweezers. As a supplement, I've been using dried bloodworms and an insect based fish food. The question I have is, the fish food contains Spirulina, a type of algae. Is that ok? Edit: I'm obviously new to the game. Any wisdom would be appreciated.
Hey!! No worries about being new. I am here to help! I wouldn’t do fish flakes for nepenthes only because they are prone to molding. It’s not going to hurt the plant in any way but you may not get as much nutrients from them. The flies are good. For smaller nepenthes I use beta pellets. While it is still fish food, it doesn’t contain as much filler and is harder so not as prone to mold. If the pitchers are good size, you can use osmocote pellets. You can also use dried crickets that you can get at local pet stores.

Thanks again for this video! Hope to get some seeds soon and grow them out in a well managed way.....
Let me know if you have any questions on the seeds once you get them or before buying. I am always a resource!
Thanks for the info. You have me wanting more nepenthes when I watch your videos. I just got 3 more from Carnivero and I'm loving them.

Thank you!!! Thank you for the well wishes. I hope you are well also!!

Yes it works great! You are right though, it is a lot on pitchers. I try to use the dead ones or dying ones so that I don’t ruin the good ones.

Hey! I have seen and heard 50 part per million for dilution or 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. The move out of the direct light will help a lot!

Hey! With maxsea you want to do about 1/4 of the scoop per gallon. I would wait if you just sprayed to ensure you don’t give them too much nitrogen.
