Fun fact, this movie was really freaking massive when it came out. To this day it remains one of the biggest box offices for a brazilian movie of all time. Os Trapalhões (or The Tramps, as he said) were incredible popular, and even if bad, the idea of a brazilian movie being a sci-fi filled with special effects was still new for the market back in the day.
I'm surprised with how mild the reception from Brazilian viewers was. Thre Tramps are something of a sacred cow here, having remained as one of the most iconic comedic groups of television in the past century. But they were essentially a TV group, so some of their movies were filmed with TV production equipment, and "Brazilian Star Wars" happened to be the first one. You can see that with the filming in videotape and usage of the same tricks as their sketches like repeating the scene, speeding up and slow motion, and in a way, this film feels like an extended Trapalhões TV sketch. The biggest problem is that while it's supposed to be a Star Wars ripoff, it doesn't really mock its source material. There's a Luke Skywalker lookalike but he's not made fun of, he's a bland heroic prince, the Hippie Chewbacca does nothing more than beating bad guys and talking backwards, and Zucco is just a generic villain, no intelligent joke on Darth Vader. No jokes about lightsabers, the Force or space battles, just a few borrowed visual elements and a generic space opera sketch that could easily be a TV special.
That is because the movie was not yet released, they basically used the same tactic that the "Epic Movies" did of just copying visuals without knowing the subtext because that would require more production time for research. They only had a trailer to work with.
As a Brazilian I have to say, this movie is awful but it's far away from our representation and contribution to the world. If you want to watch a really good movie, that it also happens to be brazilian, go watch "City of God" or "Cidade de Deus".
Wait in Brazilian Star Wars Darth Vader’s name is Zuko? Wow Os Trapalhões na guerra dos Planetas predicted Avatar the Last Airbender?? Or Zuko is a Original name?
hahahha they overdid the tramps back in the 80s, but if you select carefully, they actually have some funny bits, specially on tv, and perhaps a few good movies here and there...but they just kept making and making them, and they couldnt write a screenplay to save their lives if they needed
Worst movie I have ever seen and I have seen Turkish star wars and the star wars holiday special the star wars holiday special is watchable compared to the Turkish and Brazilian versions 😎

Wow, Brad grew his hair back and moved into his old place.
And it looks like all of those weird Japanese flavored cheetos (and other random assorted food products) are not destroying his health.
Simple episode of Trapalhoes with 1h28 min
