      Tiburon used to have lots of aftermarket parts when NGM was in business. They still have all NA parts - headers, exhaust, cams ....

The only repairs I have done is a rusted water pipe, new clutch, new radiator, 2 light bulbs and general service items and its still going strong 250 000 km later. Still has original shocks in good condition!!! Amazing reliability and value for money

      @@reedy9427 Depending on how much you drive it, oil changes are gonna be the only monthly expense. Brakes every 6 months or so. Clutch also depends on your driving. But for the most part you'll get a lot of km without any major repairs. Hyundai is extremely reliable. Even my 2010 hyundai elantra has got me 460,000km and I've only done oil changes and brakes.

      It had an issue where the flywheel would break down and cause the clutch to grab. You would have to pump the clutch to get it out of gear. I had the clutch & flywheel replaced with aftermarket parts and it ran great after that. I had this car as a teenager and ran it so hard the exhaust fell off. Were talking redlining it minimum ten times a day for seven years, I would go through 1-2 sets of front tires a year. I still tell people how reliable it was for me.

    I have one negative thing to day; it has a rubber timing belt that is a pain to replace and when it breaks it bends valves.

    • @peterjohnson9438
      @peterjohnson9438 4 месяца назад

      I beg to differ; the timing belt was quite easy to replace with quite basic tools. The biggest problem was getting the crank bolt out, I wound up using a massive breaker bar and a flywheel locking tool, while some others would just wedge a breaker bar against the subframe and bump the starter. Past that, all you need is about $300 worth of parts in the form of a timing belt kit, MLS water pump gasket and a jug of coolant, along with a ratchet, a set of sockets, and a torque wrench. I could have the old belt off and the car back together, burped and ready to run in an afternoon.
      Really simple job compared to, for example, servicing the timing chains on the Nissan 350Z VQ35DE.

Most I've had to do to it as far as maintenance goes is tighten a bolt here, oil change there, and a battery change and a radio swap. The radio was $50, battery was $120, oil change was done by me and I don't remember how much the oil costs. The car itself was $6500. Great value, super reliable, and surprisingly practical.

    I had a 2003 Tiburon GT with a5 speed and honestly, it's so underrated. The handling was un-Hyundai and the power was all there (for 175 HP, it was quick) I bought it for 6 grand and it was garage kept, so clean... I miss that car so much. Too bad some snob Iranian kid (no offense to anybody thats Iranian)ended up buying it and crashed it a few weeks later. Reliability was good as long as you took care of it. If I had one thing to say its rust. Rust is the main reason you can't get a good one for cheap. They rust so much kind of like the Celica as most were driven in winter.
    So in all before you buy a Tiburon:
    -Watch for rust
    -Get a GT with a stick for best quality
    -Get yourself a mature owned one who almost never drove it in winter, 90% of people drive them t the ground, avoid those ones if you want a car that's gonna last for more than 1 year.
    -Prices are decving, likely anything for 3000 and under is a shitbox with problems.

    I've have 2. Both 2004's, automatic 4 speed and now a 6 speed manual. My first Tibby, the automatic eventually died out. I bought it in 2014 and it lasted until last year. Engine ceased. 😭😭 My son is rebuilding it for himself. In Feb. I got the manual and aside from needing maintenance that was not done by previous owner, it's a gem. I love the pick up and 'G's' when hitting the gas and rapid shifting. It goes! This car as well as the auto will be with us forever if I have a say. I'm even looking for another to buy next year for my youngest son... Or maybe myself.
    I absolutely LOVE TIBURONS!
    Next car on my to get list will be a Genesis RS someday. I like the TLC needing, no longer produced type cars.

Had to put a clutch in it a 180k, a radiator shortly after, and I think a fuel pump around 150k. It was amazingly reliable. I drove mine through college and after and the only thing that wasn’t solid on this car is the clear coat on the plastic pieces. Outside of that, the interior was made well, the seats held up beautifully, the mechanical stuff was almost indestructible, it overheated a few times on the way home when the radiator tubs blew out, but was fine. Favorite car still to this day.

    I own an 05 2.7 GT. My girlfriend is in love with the car, but as a car guy, the only excuse I can give her is the looks. Maintenance is costly and not fun. 170hp is a big let down in a 2 door sports car that weighs over 3000 pounds. It is one of the least reliable cars I have ever driven. It is the dullest driving car I have ever driven. My mustang likes cornering more than this thing. It has virtually no aftermarket outside of ricey cosmetics and cold air intakes. Changing spark plugs should never take more than an hour in any car, but the need to remove the entire intake and throttle body to reach 3 of them is an extreme nuisance. The interior feels extremely cheap. My biggest pro for the car is the factory exhaust notes. It sounds good, if left stock. Great, in fact. But as a driver with vehicle knowledge, you should NOT give this car the thumbs up. It is an overweight economy car, dressed as a 2 door sports car.

      @hellzturkey 5 лет назад +2

      Someone is salty. I have an 07 BMW 328xi that corners better than both. I have an 89 MX6 GT pushing 18psi that takes corners better than the Tibby. If you want to talk about reliability, I trust my mustang more than my Tiburon to make it to work, and it has 700,000 miles on the clock. Want to know what my mustang has on the Hyundai? Aftermarket support, accessible parts that don't cost way too much, it is extremely easy to work on, weighs 400 pounds less with double the power, and the insurance is extremely cheap in comparison. It will whip the Tiburon's ass in every scenario. But this isn't about the Mustang. I'm just letting you know that I know what I am talking about, and giving real world examples and explanations. The Tiburon's only appeal is its aesthetics. It flops in performance. The motor is peppy at best, but by no means is it a good motor for literally anything except point A to B driving. Your Tiburon may be reliable for you now. But mine is barely driving at 130,000 miles, and I definitely know how to maintain my vehicles. So come back with a real argument.

    • @andrewdc1
      @andrewdc1 5 лет назад +4

      @@hellzturkey And you're saying I'm salty? Haha We all have our own preferences, you can keep your mustang. The truth is when I go to car shows Im never looking at the 100 people that brought their mustang. It gets old. I just prefer cars that are seen less often and have flair to them and the tiburon is one of those. I had a camaro before this and a 525i before that. Sure it doesnt corner like my beamer did, and doesnt have the power the camaro did, but I catch way more attention with my Tiburon and have spent way less to purchase and repair it. And I too know how to take care of my vehicles. I'm not sure why yours has been unreliable but if you read the comments and look up reviews on the car, most will agree, this car has been very reliable.

    • @hellzturkey
      @hellzturkey 5 лет назад

      I have an 82 t-top GT with a cammed 302, go ahead and tell me you've seen more than one. They're very hard to find. It seems like the only things you are sticking up for with this car, are looks and cost of repairs. It is a very "cute" car, I'll give you that. In the same way a Celica is cute. Or in the same way an Eclipse is cute. Or the same way a Civic is cute. Even though all of the above cars listed have higher performance at their top trims, and have lower maintenance costs than the Tiburon (and god I hate saying a Celica or Eclipse is better than anything). And nothing, NOTHING on a Tiburon will be cheaper than it will be on a Camaro. Perhaps I did get a bad example of a Tiburon. But I hated the car long before it started breaking. I would rather drive a Miata for attention, at least people would actually think I enjoy driving. The Tiburon was specifically marketed toward young girls, and guys that think having a good looking car is all you need in the car community. But the driving experience, cost of ownership, and overly complicated maintenance of the car puts it in the same category as the Sonata in terms of "driver's car". It is an overweight, overpriced 2 door economy car that doesn't get economy car MPG's. So what is it for? It's for people who don't know about cars.

      @@butchrowerakamannyfraker955 well, all I know for certain is that I bought a brand new 2003 Tiburon GT DOHC V6 5-speed , with optional 'European tuned suspension' and for the last 17 years it has delivered the 3rd gear punch I feed on, totally problem free. I'm 73 years old now, I've owned many cars, but this little Tiburon of mine is the most Reliable, best car in 50 years of driving that I ever owned! maybe you bought a lemon, but I bought pure sugar!

    I bought mine off my cousin after he drove it for 12 years. Might not look the greatest anymore but it still runs like a champ.
