      Hi!
It is understandable that you would be sceptical about going into the field of Data Science, given your core subject was biology and not maths. However, you can start learning data science without any preconceptions, after all, everyone started at the same place, and even maths students have to often revisit the basics to keep their foundation strong.
Here is how you can approach learning in order to become a data scientist.
It is a good strategy to start with building your foundation in mathematics. The main topics to cover are:
      Linear Algebra
      Logic Gates
      Calculus
      Probability
Statistics (Descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, experimental design, hypothesis testing)
The next step would be to learn a programming language. Listed down are a few languages you may look into:
      Python
      R
      SAS
      SPSS
Another language need to learn is SQL, it is comparatively easy and can be used in combination with programming languages.
Being able to represent data and its insights is as important as being able to draw them. Data visualization plays a major role in the field of data science. You can use various tools like Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
In fact, it is good to introduce yourself to multiple big data tools at this level, look into Hadoop as well while you are at it.
      Register on Kaggle.
“Kaggle is an AirBnB for Data Scientists - this is where they spend their nights and weekends. It’s a crowd-sourced platform to attract, nurture, train and challenge data scientists from all around the world to solve data science, machine learning and predictive analytics problems.”
Once you have started working on practice projects, start making your project portfolio and build your profile in order to apply for the position of a data scientist.
      Goodluck!
