My grandfather had one of those...he drove it for about 20 years before giving it away to someone that took care of his place in Florida. What a car that was - this is exactly how it was, phone and all. His was in phenomenal condition, just like this one. Wish we still had it...great memories. What a car that was...
I have seen these cars when they were new at the Mercedes Benz showroom in Monterey California during that time. The cost of the Mercedes Benz 420SEL and 560SEL was the price of a home in the late 80s. To own these high end W126 S-Class during that time the buyers income had to be substantial and affluent. During that time, the Mercedes-Benz 300E W124 was my league and the 300E had a huge price tag of $48,000 lots of money that time where I leased it. Great cars though and ahead of its time. Today's new Mercedes are awesome too. Thanks for sharing. My Best, M.L.
Thanks for posting. I owned two of these the 420sel and the 560sel. Great cars. If you purchase do your research on maintenance issues, these cars are over 30 years old now and will require some attention. Lots of little plastic pieces that break due to age and heat. Many parts are hard to find or longer produced. Most importantly, these cars had plastic timing chain guides that will need to replaced because of age. Great cruising sedans. Not particularly quick off the line but great highway driving.
This one has 204hp. European models got a performance upgrade around 87/88 which incresed the hp to 224 for the 420. I have one of those and its pretty agile. Pulls good up to 190 km/h, after that it tkes a while to reach like 220/230 which is VMax
420 slow?? Wrong! US model only. The European was about 85 bhp more, which keeps pulling until about 190-200 km/h. The torque and quietness on those speeds is simply impressive
Cool Clip, but let me give you a small correction, directly from germany (as you ca see at my poor schoolenglish). No Cupholder ? Germans never drink and eat in their cars ? Open the glove box ! Sure a very small cupholder, but germans also can drink, but only during the car's are parking.
IIRC the passenger airbag was an option on the U.S. W126’s in 1988 and 1989. It might have been standard around 1990 but I would have to dig up my old dealer brochures to confirm. In terms of the cup holder on previous cars, it is laughably shallow and backs up the point that it is only to be used for parking.
@@RyanHooshmand I had a black 1984 300 SD with gray leather back in the day. Then I purchased a 1991 300 SE Black Pearl with gray leather. I still have that car. I love the W 126.
One should never review 1989 MB 420 SEL wearing that kind of outfit.
proud owner of a 1986 420sel myself! 7 years strong. I am so happy someone did a review on the 420SEL. thank you! what a beautiful car.
Same here man!
Me too!

He must have really liked that person who took good care of his place.
I owned a 1990 for 25 years. I called it my Star Cruser. It was the best car I ever owned.

You sold me at “when you wanna look like the boss or when you are the boss lol
Very glad to see a young man reviewing this car. Great job too. Your W126 looks phenomenal.
Much appreciated! Thank you for your kind words.
Ryan your car selection is just awesome, the car is really used by each and every gangsta and businessman. great video.
Thank you!
Nice to see a fellow Persian who’s into these W126s. Loved your humor! “Very nice!”
Likewise and thank you!
My new fav w126 video on RUclips

Best body style ever produced!
In 05 I had a 1988 420SEL. GREAT car.
The most lovely of all the S-class generations!
fugget about it...haha fantastic video
I own a 1991 420sel it drives a little rough but I still love the car

That car set the standard back then .
W126 have the best design ever.
Bad ass video.
Thanks!
You sound so much like Jackie Aprile Jr.
Beautiful car
My dream car I claim it
560 sel was just a bit cooler though. My Opa had one in 2 tone like the 420 in the video….was a heavy but very well built car
The fact that Germans don't eat or drink in their car would make a great seinfeld joke.
lol nice job
Thank you!
Try 560 sel armored, If u want fast stuff
"the ride is aboslutely fantastic"
*Camera shaking to it's death*
Lolll, I see your point. But my camera setup was very poor, otherwise it wouldn’t have been so bad
holy shake cam but good review overall.
This guy looks like he holds spawns pretty nice
Classic 😂
John Gotti had a W126.
If I become mab, I definitely buy this.
the camera did 80s dance on whole drive.
U didn't talk about the head rest

Thanks for the comment! This car has an airbag in place of the glove box

@@immobilien falls under business man 😂
@@immobilien great choice of cars!
How many
420th like
Great success! By the way that mileage....super low
You do not know what you are talking about. M y 420SEL had a ton of power. Oh and by the way, these cars were only around $65,000 back then
They don’t have much power and I stated adjusted for inflation when discussing MSRP. Thanks for your viewership Greg
That would place these around $150,000 in today’s dollar
Young man, next time wear a suit.
Same color qnd year..
2 cup holders when you flip down the glovebox door
This car has no glove box. Only trays to put small items and change
