How to Fold Your Montsuki for Iaido

  • I noticed recently that several people fold their iaido montsuki the same way they would their regular keikogi. So in this video I'll show you how to fold your montsuki so that your kamon stay nice and flat.

    This is also pretty much how the formal men’s naga juban, the ones that feature a nice painterly design on the back, are folded and for the same reason,- to prevent a crease running through the middle of the design.

      Women’s juban are also sometimes folded this way to keep the collar smooth. Some people sew a stiffener into it instead of using a removable one.

    Thank you so much of the information. Love the colors you have by the way.
    Being doing Iaido for two months so far. Any suggestions where to get different colors for kimono/Montsuki? Instead black or white. 😅

      Most people here either use kimono they got for cheap, have their colored montsuki made, or make them, unfortunately.
