Sir can you recommend the best performance tyre for size 15 for a uber driver like me who drives 400 to 500 km everyday. My country weather is either hot sunny day or rainy day we don't have winter here.
Yeah we've got to remember the differences between Europe (nearly all 19" and above) and America where they get it down to 16"! Maybe write to Michelin Europe expressing your desire for more sizes :)
I literally changed my alloy from 18" to 19" to be able to have the PS4S. Amazing tyre. The grip, the wet performance, hard to overheat, there is no weakness really.
@@jim1013yyf PS4 overheated, then swapped to PS4S, heavy AWD car, even after 3 lap on the Nürburgring, summer time, it was all fine, all I need to do is monitor the pressure. Competitors may come close in some areas, but not all. As long as racecar drivers driving on the ring mostly with PS4S or Cup2, I'm not even going to consider other brand.
@@jim1013yyf It's all good, I can't push it harder as I toast my brakes then :D For me the PS4S is the best all rounder I ever had. If I go to Cup2, then I sacrifice wet braking and cornering.
Love the Sport 4 S. A lot of money when replacing 4, but worth it in the long run. Wet grip is amazing and it rains a lot in Scotland. But also you get a real feel of confidence when cornering at decent speeds on winding roads. If it ain't broke...
I had the PS4 on my medium sized hot hatch for 28,000km and came to hate them. In the last 10,000km they were extremely noisy from 30 to 40kph in spite of regular rotation. I changed to Primacy 4+ and the comfort is massively improved. Noise is also excellent. Transitional steering response is not as good, but traction and general grip is excellent. Unless planning to do track stuff I would not go to a PS4 or PS5.
@@geoffreyveale7715 totally agree, I got primacy as well and I'd have to drive my car beyond what's considered safe on a public road to get to their limit. They also last longer, make less noise and have better fuel efficiency which here in Europe matters. And for wet grip they got the same rating anyway. Most people owning those tires, that I know, don't even track their cars, it's for the looks yet they end up complaining a lot about noise. 😂
I would love to see a test in which you compare the oldest tire still in production (or an corresponding old tire in fresh condition) to his modern equivalent to see the difference tire development has archieved over the years. This would be so exciting to see!
@@tyrereviews That (Continental, i think?) tyre review with the GTI was great, and the primary reason I'm getting impatient for the PS S5! So many improvements!
I would love to see a comparison across segments. So for example a test with: PS S5, PS5, SportContact 7, PremiumContact 7 Aspects that I would like to see: wear, noise, temperature dependance (will braking with a cold tire be better with the less sporty tires?), feel of the tire I would love to choose one of the sportier tires, but am unsure of the compromises I would be making with regards to these points. Sadly there are barely any tests comparing across segments. Thanks for the amazing videos! I have watched every single one going back years
I had the PS4 until a while ago and because PS4S costs more than a PSC2 around here (225/40/r18) I just bought the PSC2 (connect). The alternative to the PS4S was the GoodYear Eeagle F1 SuperSport which may be a bit better than the PS4S, but over the years of owning and using various tires I learned that the Michelins are consistent while the other degrade, damage easier, or just fade off.
@@I_feel_just_like_a_rockstar they warm up quickly. However last week I took the car out before sunrise in 0C weather and they needed quite a while to perform as expected. At 10C however they are warm before I'm out of town.
I have the Michelin pilot Alpin 5 winter tire under my Golf GTI MK 8 and this summer I will also install new Michelin Pilot sport 4s for more grip that promises. Thanks in advance for your good work for all the information about tires
Drove the M4 Competition on 4S at Nurburgring, very nice and sticky tire. Less sensible to temperature changes than the cup2 and works as early as 35’C. Unless track toy, use the 4S instead of the cup2 and you have less headaches. Waiting on my new 992, hoping to win the “tyre lottery” - getting Michelins and not Pirelli or Goodyear 🤞🤞🤞
Thanks a lot Jon for that heads up on this tire, as I've been really curious as to when and how Michelin would upgrade the PS4S. It looks as if Michelin is stiffening up the steering response of the PS4S, the thing that was its greatest drawback to me, and so I'm really curious how the steering response and precision will be. I am a little concerned with the use of the steel belts in the S5, as the 4S doesn't have them, I think, and uses Aramid fiber which I believe is stiffer and lighter. I hope the new tire doesn't gain weight as a result of the use of steel belting. One of my top priorities in my Z is to reduce unsprung weight as much as possible and to this end I'm going to be installing a set of 20" forged magnesium wheels on the car in a +1 setup. I wouldn't want to partially negate some of that weight savings with heavier tires. If the S5 tires do gain weight then I guess I would just go with the Cup 2 tires. BTW: I will not buy any tire until after I've seen a review of it done by you.
If you are that keen to reduce unsprung weight you really should be using 19 inch wheels rather than 20s. The difference in weight jumping up to 20 inch is really significant because they have to be really beefed up to maintain required the strength. I can't remember who it was that went into great detail about this but I reckon it was either Gordon Murray or Andreas Preuninger so they know what they're talking about!
@@pjay3028 Actually, there was very little more weight in comparing the 20" to the 19", for the same width, from the manufacturer - LiteSpeed Racing. What would be more significant is the increase in the moment of inertia about the wheel's rolling axis. The good thing in going with the +1 scheme is that the rolling radius is the same and the tire's section height is reduced, a larger hole size. This means slightly less tire weight, which partially offsets the weight gain from the wheel. The other part of the program is to also reduce the weight of the brake system, like with a two-piece aluminum hat rotor.
I've not deep dived into the construction but I would be surprised if they end up heavier, current trend is going light and lighter to help with rolling resistance targets, which has the often unfortunate effect of softening up the steering response too. As p jay says the biggest jump in unsprung weight will come from smaller wheels!
@@videomaniac108 Can't say I've ever seen a 20" wheel of the same model and brand, weigh exactly the same as it's 19" version. My OZ racing wheels on my mk6 GTI are 17" and weigh just over 16 lbs each. Step up to 18" version, and it gains over a pound. Not a lot, but if weight savings is your mission, and you are being honest about it, you would ditch the 20". Unless you were driving a C6zr1 then you'd have an argument for staying with the 19/20" wheels
I've driven using the Pilot Sport since my 2000 E46 and every generation of that tire afterwards. It gets better ever generation. I'm super excited too to use the PSS5 when my current PS4 wears out in about 2 years...
Amazing to finally hear something official about it! You’re excited, I’m excited, the world should be excited!! 🎉 and makes sense that the 4 S is still a reference and they plan to keep it bit longer. Plenty of tread left on mine 😂
Just swapped out my POTENZA for the S5's on my 2023 MX5! The potenza's were so damn loud i couldn't hear motor.i know its dumb to buy new tires for a car with just over 300 mi.
It's a RUclips channel dedicated to Tyres. Hence the excitement of a replacement for a tyre that has been out for quite some time. No difference to an electronics channel getting excited over a new iPhone or Android phone. Or even a new Graphics card or CPU.
Sooo exciting !!! Thank you Sir ! Just ordered a set of 4S, will use them until the 5S (S5) is available. Hope they smash the Conti Sport contact 7. And yes, give us more sizes, a 245/30/19 for a stage 2+ 140i ! 🤩 Can’t wait for the full scale test and comparison. Love from Bordeaux. ✌️
i have been running the Pilot Sport 5 Front and Pilot Sport 4 s Rear for six months now, awesome tyres, interestingly the Pilot Sport 5 has the same side wall pattern as the Pilot Sport S 5.
Thank you! You just solved a issue I had with this tyre, I've actually seen and handled this tyre, and it confused me with the numbering and lettering being the wrong way round, cheers.
@@tyrereviews I work for a sport car manufacturer, and had to go to prototype development, and they've got quite a few, can't name the company as I like my job! Can't tell you if it's any better than the 4s as i didn't speak to anyone who's actually used them yet.
@@focusrssteve no one will really be able to answer that either as oe tyres can be so far removed from the aftermarket versions they're hard to compare! I'm sure the manufacturer is happy with them, there's plenty floating about on Porsche and Aston test cars at the moment!
@@tyrereviews Same here, I am looking for some new rubber for my ND Miata, but the 17-inch segment looks kinda empty and bland, I guess I am stuck with Bridgestone Potenza Sport, good tire but I would like to try something different.
Just bought SC7 hahaha, let's see how good this s5 is over the Conti. The side wall design looks fantastic though as usual. Michelin has a history of designing good-looking sidewalls.
SC7 has been amazing for me so far. The only negative I have is the noise level. Other than that fantastic grip and I can now finally go full lock with the wheels without anything slipping around.
@@tyrereviews meh I have a Mercedes and when you turn in the wheels to max the outer wheel needs to have a different angle you know in order to match the radius. Many Mercedes have this problem especially RHD cars. Mine is LHD but however with the old Sport Contact 5P (E53 AMG) the outer tire made knocking noises from the interior because it jumped over the road. Now the problem's gone with the SC7
I just shined my Goodyear F1 Assymetric 6 tires. They are my sixth set and fifth brand on this car and the best so far. The Db rating is awesome, the performance just fine. This is one I have not tried. Perhaps the next set. My size used to be expensive. Now its just a common size and less than half of what it cost 12 years ago. I drive easy and the noise is important to me. I have had some tires that sing too much.
The main reason I'm glad we're not getting the PS4S replacement yet is because I don't feel like the cost would be worth is on my Jetta GLI that those have moved to...now if I can just find the money to get one of the cars with the OE tires...
I can't wait, so I am buying the 4S. #1, I am in the USA, so Michelin can be slowish to this market; #2, I am buying them for my "Lawnmower" 2018 Ford Focus ST. The 4S will be more than enough! "Lawnmowers" usually get plenty of grip, even with "Hammercracker" Brand tires. Regardless, thank you for the update and information on the PSS5!
Do you know why acoustic foam so far is only found in OE tires? I would love to choose a PremiumContact 6/7 with foam, but they are only available in very select sizes on OE tires like for Mercedes
Whatever helps sell the cars - first impressions on a test drive can be everything. (Even though the foam is a minimal improvement, manufacturers are chasing every decibel they can)
@@fiehlsport of course that's why they do it. But I would like to try some tires with foam as well. I don't see why tire manufactures don't give that option, even though they market the benefits a lot
@@emmamitchell1582 idk but the EU label shows the same decibel levels for both without and with foam inside. Unsure if it's actually gonna make a difference. However you can buy Conti Sport Contact 6 with it no problem. I haven't seen the SC7 with that option though. Keep in mind that contis generally speaking are a bit of a louder tire. If noise is all you care about I'd recommend the P Zero. So far I'm driving with SC7s
@@v12-s65 there is no Continental tire in 225/40/r18 with foam sadly. They list all available combinations on their website. It's no big deal and I will still pick Continental because I like the feel. But foam would be a nice bonus
EU label is external noise, foam really does help with internal noise! Manufacturers are starting to put foam in some aftermarket sizes, I guess the demand isn't quite there yet and it confuses the distribution and stocking so it's something that might take a while to ramp up. It does work though.
@@tyrereviews Any hunch of when they will start to release it? I've got a street driven 718 Spyder with Cup 2's. I'd like something a bit more road focused when I replace them. I find the 4S tires to have too soft a sidewall for my liking. Hoping the S5 will be a better option for me.
I really hope they make a viable option for C6 Corvettes. 335/30-18 would be ideal for the rear. With 600+ horsepower at the wheels it would be nice to have something that grips decently well and will last a couple years. Until then I guess I'll just keep buying Toyo R888Rs every spring when I get the Vette out of winter storage.
After using the impressive 4s on a few cars, and now done 4kmiles on the Conti sc7 including two wet trackdays. I'd say the Conti has the edge on the road and track for performance, wet/dry grip, noise similar and wearing well. and at the time of purchase cheaper than the 4s.
I drove it on the new AMG GT63 (press vehicle) Amazing car. Please revie & test this combination for your Audience. Only 5 vehicles (Lexus LX, Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin, etc) released as OE tyre (ex factory only!) so far. Very rare
does Michelin upload a press release about the s5? quite wondering what exactly is changed, I saw some french tire shop 123pneus start selling s5 starting at 450 euro, isnt the first patch for the OE car?
On my second set of 4s' and gotta say i love them. My only, very small, gripe is steering feel. To preface, im running them as F 245/40/19 R 275/35/19. Rims with them have been F 8.5"(width) w/ R 9"(width) and F 9"(width) w/ R 10"(width) and i have got to day the smaller wifth wheels felt better. Even though the smaller rims are on the small size given the tire width, i had more feeling and control with them (given the same psi). I feel like these tire benefit from a bit of oversizing because of the lack of feel on proper size rims.
@@tyrereviews For sure. I have them on a rwd G37 and it definitely takes some fiddling with the psi front to rear to get a good balance. I primarily like my car to feel sharp with slight oversteer on turn in and as rear grippy as possible on corner exit. The difference between 32psi and 33psi (cold)on the rear is massive for spongy/swishy feeling on these tires. I ended up with 34psi (cold front) and 33.5psi(cold rear). I drive/steer with the throttle quite a bit, so the tears heat up quite quickly. But once everything is warm, cornering feels like an absolute dream. I think the 4s it probably the most fantastic rwd tire I have driven (for road/light track duty). There is so much throttle control that makes balancing the car effortless. Back to the gripe of steering feel: once you get some experience with the tires, it becomes a trust of the grip you'll have and how they will react to steering inputs. They can feel numb, especially on small corrections, but the cars always go where I expect and want it and that's all I can ask for. To also add: I feel the roll off as temps get wayyyy to hot (like your recent french track video) is tempered well so the decreasing limits are obvious. It's not a cliff, but a gradual drop in grip levels that allow you to change your driving line and cornering dynamics easily. It's not a hardcore track time by any means, but to be able to drive to the track and just get in with it is great. I can't wait for the next iteration.
I suspect they're not selling it aftermarket to facilitate sell through of older tyres. I hope they've managed to engineer out that Michelin overheating floppyness that happens on track so we have something to rival Eagle F1 SS. What I really really want to see is some brake pad reviews to go along with these tyre reviews. Or maybe some testing with light weight vs heavy wheels. I seem to recall a poll about what else we would like to see on the channel and pads are up there for me!
They sell every 4S they make, stocks are always low in the popular sizes! I'm not sure that poll was mine but i'd really like to do brakes too. I've started reaching out to brake manufacturers to discuss.
@@tyrereviews perhaps I'm just too cynical when it comes to big companies 🤣 thanks for taking the time to visit the comments 👍 I'm really looking forward to brake content!
@@howarddavies136 You're not being cynical. They will launch at the most financially feasible time. Hold back distribution until buyers are salivating, then they will sell like hot cakes. That's exactly how corporations work. Its always all about profit, and don't let anyone every convince you different.
I stayed away from Michelin for 20 years. I didn't like the wet handling. Two years ago my new car came on the P Zero All Seasons which were horrible on it. I asked a few of my friends for recommendations and the PS4S was the unanimous recommendation. I gave I and got them in the first month. Transformed the car. They will not last 30,000 miles even with proper rotation intervals but I'm ok with that.
I’m excited to see new developments of Michelin’s performance tire. I use PS4S tires on my 900 wheel hp Audi RS3, and I feel they are adequate for my style of driving.
That tire looks great! Hopefully it will be out just in time for my next tire purchase. Also could you do a review of the new Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02?
Time for an update, please! I am still suffering the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres on my Spyder and I would really appreciate a more civilised alternative, but the S5 Connect option does still tempt me!
Lovely video as usual! If possible, can you throw in the pilot sport suv in the test of aggressive all terrains? I know it does not fit in the category, but it would be very interesting and a unique experiment to see how much better is it on road (wet/dry) and how much behind is it off road. Waiting for that video to come out ❤
I loved the PSS sets on my 996 C4S. Sad they were discontinued for my size. However my 991.2 Turbo only gets PS4s for street use, but have been playing with Yokie Advan 601s for the track, since they're considerably cheaper. Looking forward to the PSS5 on my Turbo though for daily use!
I've had the Michelin Pilot Sport 5, on my car since mid October 2022 and I must say they have been worked hard in the 10,000 they've now covered since. I cannot fault them, come rain or sunshine, they grip a lot better than I expected, when I've pushed my luck a little. Will never fit another make since having these fitted.
@@iFanchi Yep, and pay both michelin and the dealer a big premium. I'm getting more and more the impression that michelin is starting to get a bit full of themselves. I mean look at 225/40/18 for example. Where i live the 4S in that size costs ~160€ and the Sport Contact 7 is like 95€. Why should i buy the Michelin, which is the worse tyre of the two, for additional 65€ *per tyre* ?
@@NoName-st6zc I bought a set SC7 online for that reason and it cost me 1'000Fr. The Michelin in my size would have been 1'500 which is ridiculous. They don't last 50% longer.
@@v12-s65 And neither do they perform 50% better. As much as i love Michelin tyres, they need to start adjusting their prices finally. With me being on 17 inch wheels (and having no access to tyres like the PS4S, Sportcontact 7 or Eagle F1 Supersport) it's the first year that i've choosen something different than a michelin tyre, that being the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6. I could've choosen the PS5 instead but that's just a tyre performing on pretty much the exact same level as the PS4 but costing more and far more importantly performing worse than the Asymmetric 6 so yeah : the choice was obvious, especially considering that the Asymmetric 6 is much cheaper than both the PS5 and PS4. Don't get me wrong : Michelin Tyres are really good but the tyres of the other top dogs have gotten better than the michelins so they really can't charge a premium for their tyres anymore imo.
@@mdev8846 Potenza Sport has a somewhat soft sidewall in 17" & 16" than the larger sizes (at least compared to old Potenzas) more similar to Eagle F1 Asymmetric range, while Pilot Sport has a *really, really* soft sidewall in those smaller sizes. The Potenza Sport is certainly really fast and grippy though, if you don't mind the feeling of not really feeling connected to the road compared to traditional Potenzas, it's a bit like "easy mode" (the Sport will just smooth over bumps and grip on power down, where the older Potenzas would flicker the traction control light as the engine rpm flares in response to a bumpy road which is IMO more fun despite being objectively worse). The Potenza Sport will kind of make your older car (if it came with OEM old school Potenzas from the factory like a S001 or RE050A like my car did) drive like a more modern, more numb car which is kind of weird.
LOVE the 4S. I've had it as OE on my personal car, but my only issue is the fact that being a "summer only" tire, I've read bulletins from both GM and Michelin stating at temperatures approaching freezing, they strongly recommend you NOT drive the car, because you could actually "crack" a tire!
I live in Moab - they work just fine year round - yes - even on gravel messed up roads where only the "DUDE BRO" hat wearing conformist checklist beard "off road DUDE BRO" people go. Don't over think it - just buy them - and enjoy passing prius's and subarus around corners with ZERO (yes - "ZERO") effort. You'll need plastic surgery to remove the smile from your face as you smash through corners that the normies are too beta male wussy estrogeon filled soy to take because they cheaped out and went with typical "all season" tires which - are horrible at EVERYTHING. Give me your credit card and I'll order them FOR YOU. You're welcome!
True!! Summer performance tires can easily be damaged in freezing temperatures and it usually isn't obvious visually. Often using them that way will void the manufactures warranty.
Exactly. Something I never knew until I showed up at my dealership one chilly January day and got scolded by my salesman for driving the car with the 4S tires on it...
Probably by specifying a camber (or more accurately a camber range) to the manufacturers - that way more wear occurs on the harder inner wall, with the softer outer wall only getting high loads/wear in the corner (while also providing better grip). Since most of us spend more time going in a straight line, it's a worthwhile trade
The issue here really is tire availability specifically in the United States. Right now we can only get the Continental SportContact 7 in two 21” sizes. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires are only available in one 19” tire size and those are back ordered for many months. It does us no good to have these great tires that we can’t actually purchase. These tires may be easy to get in Europe but they are non existent in the US. It doesn’t appear that this new tire will change that either.
@@dlevi67 what about tires like the Continental SportContact 7 and Michelin Pilot Sport 5? Can you get those tires in Europe easily? Tyre reviews makes it sound like those tires are everywhere in Europe.
@@LiveLifeLasting that is really great. We can only get Pirelli PZ4 or Michelin PS4S in most 18” sizes here. I can’t find hardly any performance summer tires for Goodyear in 18” wheel sizes. Continentals selection is really limited too.
@@LearningFast The SC7 is theoretically available, but stocks are low (at least, I was trying to find some 225/40 R19 and 255/35 R19 in the UK a month ago, and nothing available). The PS5 is just OEM worldwide, from what the video says.
do you think the sidewall stiffness will improve? my issue with the ps4s was that the sidewall couldn't even take my daily driving, the shoulders wore down so fast and because it was uneven wear it wasn't handled by the warranty. been on nittos n555g2 ever since.
The impression i'm getting with this is that this is basically the 4S star marked replacement. That way OE's can't complain towards Michelin anymore about needing to justify towards their customers because of having an old PS4(S star marked) Michelin tyre being mounted while a new PS5(non S though) is already out. I'm always quite excited about new top tier tyres, especially from michelin, but this one leaves me completely cold. Save to say that this is an completely irrelevant tyre for most people and it certainly isn't the 4S replacement people are still excitingly waiting for. I can definitely understand Michelin though. I mean it's not like the newer top tier tyres from the usual suspects are driving circles around the 4S already so there really isn't a need to replace the 4S in a hurry or something. When it comes to the sidewall design of these new tyres though? I think it's starting to become a bit too much, certainly when i look at that CUP2 R in the background. I really wouldn't want my tyre to look that way as it starts to get to the edge of where it starts to look cheap again. I think the the PS4, PS4S & original CUP2 had the sidewall design just right. Just my two cents...
Good to see they have OE for Tesla Performance versions. My PS4S should be ready to change in 4/5 months so hoping they are out by then, alternatively Porsche OE should fit minus the acoustic foam.
Surprisingly uncritical (promo?) video imo. I recon the unofficial statement by Michelin on postponing their tyre line for replacement market rather reads like this: "Our technical team is back at the drawing board and desparately working on upgrading our newly developed S5 since we figured out that it cannot hold a candle to available products as the SportContact 7 which is currently dominating the UHP tyre market." Couldn't be said obviously...
I'm as sad as everyone that you can't buy it, but now it's on the michelin website and online stores I wanted to explain what was going on to avoid confusion.
My 2019 Mustang came with Michelin sport 4s. I have just replaced them with pirrelli and come to the conclusion the Sport 4s tyres were terrible. I mean I can’t stress how bad they were. From the day I bought the car they had 0 grip in the wet and dry when cold and were dangerous and I barely escaped many close accidents due to tyre spin and slip. The Pirrelli tyres on the other hand have given me a new sense of confidence and appreciation whether they are cold or warmed up.
That second S can be a bit confusing 😆, as you said the PS-S5 is only OEM at the moment, I had to double check and it turns out the tires I just put on my E36 M3 are regular PS-5 without the extra S. 🤷♂. No driving impressions yet, as I still haven't finished the engine rebuild, but I expect they will be quite good based on my previous experience with Michelins. (And yes, I put new tires on even before the engine was back in. It had sat for so long the old ones were dry rotted, and there was a sale on Michelins through the local tire importer a few weeks back). I'll agree that the SuperSports were a "hero" tire! I put some on my Subaru STi a few years back, and they had similar grip to the "aggressive" summer tires I'd used before, e.g. Goodyear Asymmetric (forget what number), Hankook RS-3, Falkens (not the top Azenis, but one step down since at the time I lived where there were cold and rainy winters), and the like, which I expected, but what I chose to spend the extra money for was their reputation for also having good ride quality and being quieter than other summer high performance tires. And that is what blew me away, how _QUIET_ they were, relatively speaking. A 2005 STi has very little sound deadening, so the difference in tire noise was immediately noticeable. It made the daily commute a lot more tolerable while still giving plenty of grip for track days,
I loved Pilot Sport 4s but I won't buy 5s anymore because Pilot Sport 5 are fantastic. They are more comfortable than 4s and they are the only sports tires that stick perfectly to the asphalt even at 0 degrees C. Of course, they are not suitable for snow, but on wet and dry asphalt, even in winter, they are great. Greetings to all tire maniacs.
It was meant to be out today but this happened so it'll be out by next monday at the latest. If you're waiting to buy, Tomket and winrun were good if I recall, but good for a budget not good for a tyre
It almost sounds like the 5s might not even become available other than OE...? I'm happy with my 4s's but would love the "Velvet" sidewalls like the cup 2's!

@@jim1013yyf It's all good, I can't push it harder as I toast my brakes then :D
For me the PS4S is the best all rounder I ever had. If I go to Cup2, then I sacrifice wet braking and cornering.
Don't forget the ring is quite a low grip surface so harder to overheat

I would love to see a comparison across segments. So for example a test with: PS S5, PS5, SportContact 7, PremiumContact 7
Aspects that I would like to see: wear, noise, temperature dependance (will braking with a cold tire be better with the less sporty tires?), feel of the tire

Absolutely incredible breakdown and clear explanation. You are exceptional dear sir!
Thank you kindly!
Those 3 dots on the tyre are total game changer, I've been asking for this teeeeeeechnology for ages...
@@tyrereviews Thanks, that's good to hear about their plans. I don't mind paying the extra price for a tire that's so well designed and constructed.

I agreed. I tend to pressure up or put them on wheels with a slight stretch
Let's see how it competes with the likes of the Asymmetric 6 and Supersport
For a BMW 230i with 18" what RunFlat Tyres do you recomend? 245 back and 225 front

@@jetfixer3207you know, there are summer tires and there are winter tires
Curious, if a single tire uses more than 1 compound, how do they get them to wear at the same rate?
Probably by specifying a camber (or more accurately a camber range) to the manufacturers - that way more wear occurs on the harder inner wall, with the softer outer wall only getting high loads/wear in the corner (while also providing better grip). Since most of us spend more time going in a straight line, it's a worthwhile trade
Ah yes, the PSS5 being OE as announced at the end of the video make sense in line with my hypothesis above
@@CED99 That's a great explanation and makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
@@CED99 yep however that didn't make me pay 500 bucks more a set for the OE PS4s... I went with the SC7 and so far I don't see any wear after 2'000km.
They can also use the pressure distribution across the contact patch to alter wear!
OK, so it's been a year since this video was done; any news on availability now? (Canada).
Excited they will offer higher load capacity and acoustic foam!
I want a set for my e-tron S.
:D
The issue here really is tire availability specifically in the United States. Right now we can only get the Continental SportContact 7 in two 21” sizes. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires are only available in one 19” tire size and those are back ordered for many months.
It does us no good to have these great tires that we can’t actually purchase. These tires may be easy to get in Europe but they are non existent in the US. It doesn’t appear that this new tire will change that either.
They are not easy to get in Europe either - in fact, from what the video says, it's not available anywhere outher than for OEM
@@dlevi67 what about tires like the Continental SportContact 7 and Michelin Pilot Sport 5? Can you get those tires in Europe easily? Tyre reviews makes it sound like those tires are everywhere in Europe.
@@LearningFast Yes they are easy to get, even down to 18 inch for the SC7, got my 19inch ones two weeks ago, 152€ for 235/35 only
@@LiveLifeLasting that is really great.
I'm not holding my breath
Try the Goodyear supercar3
@@tyrereviews I'll check them out, thanks!
That’s Michelins. Soft sidewalls and comfort oriented. Goodyear Assymetric 5 or 6 are better for sporty driving.
I recon the unofficial statement by Michelin on postponing their tyre line for replacement market rather reads like this:
"Our technical team is back at the drawing board and desparately working on upgrading our newly developed S5 since we figured out that it cannot hold a candle to available products as the SportContact 7 which is currently dominating the UHP tyre market."
Couldn't be said obviously...
That's very, very interesting!
Can you please try out the Michelin Pilot Sport EV tire and compare it to the regular pilot sport alternatives.
Time for a CUP 3 as well
Bridgestone potenza Race and Yokohama AD09 are already out. Would love to see some trackday tyre tests.
Wouldn’t it be named the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 3 and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup R 3? Cup R 3 sounds weird.
I guess I'll know what tires to replace to once my new set of PS4S give up
Exciting times Conti SC7 vs MPS5
It made the daily commute a lot more tolerable while still giving plenty of grip for track days,
You should do an origin story video of how you got into tyres!
They're a great tyre!
Good advice, thank you. Exactly Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires have a lot of traction.
Hi, are you still going to make it and go live with the budget summer tyres video as mentioned previously by the end of this month? Thank you!
It was meant to be out today but this happened so it'll be out by next monday at the latest. If you're waiting to buy, Tomket and winrun were good if I recall, but good for a budget not good for a tyre
@@tyrereviewsthanks for the feedback, looking forward to your next videos, great job!
im after some new tyres but at 295/35/18 limited size unfortunately, i think the best i can get for dry grip is the AD09?
It almost sounds like the 5s might not even become available other than OE...? I'm happy with my 4s's but would love the "Velvet" sidewalls like the cup 2's!
Fun fact, some sizes of the 4S now have the velvet sidewall. And it's lovely
Well I drive a highly modified Audi S5 so I hope this tire becomes available soon. S5 with S5's coming soon!
You are 100 % sure everybody who is watching knows everything about the M 4 S ? Manfred in the back of the class : Raises his hand... (-:
