      2 more yrs later... It actually took 2 yrs and 6 months. For the obvious reasons as stated in the brief cartoon (harvesting the crops) and it was easier to hide the news. In Texas, slavery had continued as the state experienced no large-scale fighting or significant presence of Union troops (what enslaved don't know enslavers ain't telling).
      June 19, 1865, the date on which enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news they were free. This was two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, one year after the Senate passed the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery, on April 18, 1864, and six months after it was passed by the House on January 31, 1865.

    The abuse of people in slavery was awful and inexcusable and I have no problem with honoring them with a holiday. The Holocaust was awful to. So is the sex slave trade happening today. Slavery in that respect is ongoing. It’s the right thing to never forget, lest we repeat history. To be honest I was a little offended with how white people were portrayed in the episode. We aren’t all that stupid or out of touch. Also, the whole white privilege narrative needs to stop. My husband and I earned what we have and started with nothing. Then we lost everything we worked for to a manipulative con. The legal system did not work in our favor. My white parents didn’t bale me out of my unfair problems. We should never forget injustices and it would be unfair to make people who didn’t have a thing to do with these injustices pay for them

    • @elizabethjackson1117
      @elizabethjackson1117 Год назад

      Patty Roehm, no one is asking you to pay for slavery. Reparation is debt owed to the enslaved people, who never got paid for their hard work of building USA. Which all people have benefited. Everyone got paid except Black folks. It is just time for the US elected officials to, cute the check. (Cash & land)
      No Blacks are asking you or tax payers to pay for nothing. Black people are taxpayers too. And they should not pay for this reparation debt. Only the elected officials. They been saving these funds for 400 years.
      Reparation is not a tax payers debt. We just want what the US government been keeping from Black
      People all these years. This is not your money it is enslaved people money fo their desendents only. End of story.
