That was so helpful for me, when one has a sequence program for his own practice or his students class, the yoga will be much more effective and joyful. I found your guidance very helpful. I love you Ashley, thank you
This is a game-changer for me. You have no idea. I've been teaching for 2 years and sequencing is still challenging for me. This is immensely helpful. THANK YOU!
Hi Ashley, I am so grateful that you shared this yoga sequencing class. I've been doing yoga since college and it's my first time teaching this weekend. You won't believe how hard it was to come up with postures. This video really put it to practice.
Very helpful - Thank you! You're absolutely right that as a teacher I get bored or tired of my own material far sooner than the students do :-) it's a valuable reminder!
I love it and that was one of the most useful videos I ever saw on RUclips. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I think I’ll also join the online course :))
Just starting teaching yoga, and I would like to thank you so very much for the resources you're providing. It is so instructive to learn from different experienced teachers! =)
I had a class this morning. I did not have time to prepare myself and this was so helpful. I actually managed to tailor my class using your tips. Namaste
I'm always afraid that my students will get bored if I stick to the same base poses in the sequence even if it's intelligent sequencing, like your ladder flow system... but I guess you're right that even if you vary it up a little in between, the experience of being guided through it actually feels quite different than when you're teaching it. Thanks Ashley!
You would change up the 5 poses completely to make it a very different focus. But the warm up and cool day can be mostly the same. I have never taught the same class twice
This is great. Thanks so much. Ive been teachjng vinyasa Yoga now for about 4 months. Ive followed the same sequencing arc since, which has been great, but now want to change it up. This is great. I was thinking. High lunge, warrior 2, reverase warrior, extended side angle, triangle, half moon for my first sequence
I was feeling so stuck in my sequencing from YTT and wanted to try something new but didn’t know how. I am so thankful for coming across your videos!! They are super helpful. Thank you for sharing! Namaste.
Ashley - thank you so much! Love your flow -- it's validating in that it's what I've been doing without really dissecting "why". Just natural. Learning so much from you...thank you for continuing to put out great info. You are truly a gift! 🙏🏻
This is very helpful in how you break it down , I think we all know the poses it’s just building a base and you explain it so clearly , I will definitely be following you and learning from you !
Thank you so much lovely,,, your vedio so helpful to me, I am just want to start to teach yoga for the first time,, I am so worringabout yoga sequence 😌... Thank you🙏
Thank you! Great recommendations 👌 I was not taught ladder flow, but I like it! Building upon going back to Pose 1 as the base. I see how this can make a student stronger and more comfortable with the poses😃
That's okay. It's meant as a video AFTER learning the basics. Stick with sequencing basics as a beginner. I have a few beginner sequencing youtube videos, and also some mini courses and workshop replays that are more beginner style. You can see them at ashesyoga.offeringtree.com/online_store
You are awesome. Thank you for this great suggestion. Totally agree with many people and saying this is one of the most helpful videos I've seen. I also love your gentle confidence. It's really inspiring to watch.
Great thanks to your supper clear instruction and ideas. I believe my beginner students can benefit a lot from this way of practice! I just have one question for you about this video. How long breath count do we need for each precious pose and the add-on new pose? 5 breath count for both or 3 for old and 5 for new pose? I feel both ways work ok for me. I am curious about your ideas. Thank you and have a great day!
I like how you broke this down. I am going to apply this to one of my sequences that I felt was missing something. I noticed in this ladder flow, there could be 10 or more vinyasa's in the Sun Salutations and in between asana's. Since I tend to begin fatigue around taking the 3rd Vinyasa, this makes me wonder how many vinyasa's are too many. When it comes to taking vinyasa, do you have a max amount when sequencing?
Dear Ashley, your videos always pop out when I need them the most (= when I am very discouraged and frustrated ready to give up). Thank you very much for doing this for us. I've found the video very very helpful. Just would like to ask, in a class, do we have to always teach pose#1 followed 1 vinyasa flow and then pose #1 + vinyasa flow etc. (You continue to add the 5-6 poses) or could you also offer the 5 poses all together + vinyasa and you just repeat the whole 'pack' 2 or 3 times. Or perhaps just start like 2 poses together + vinyasa and then you add 2 or 3 more poses (to make the 5) as the class progresses? Instead of adding 1 , then 1+ 2, 1+2+3 etc.
I’m happy to help! To answer your question, when it comes to teaching a yoga class, there is no “do always” rules. Unless you are teaching a strict set sequence, you have the freedom to make it what you want. You can try it a variety of ways.
@@AshleyHagen thank you for answering. I've watched your next video on "the flow". I guess that video answers this question. I've always thought it was the same line all teachers follow but both of videos put it very clear and gave me more perspective on how to sequence. You are very good teacher. Thanks for sharing this here 💜🙏
I had an instructor do this for a 45 minute class. It can be for any duration. If you add a pose, it will take longer. You can also lengthen your warm-up and cool-down.
Hi , your content has been so useful to me as a student yoga teacher! You asked for 5 poses of my own? So , Low lunge, Pyramid , Goddess, wide leg forward fold and possibly garland? Do you think these would work?
Thanks il try. I would like some pathway to follow I’m only with yoga 6months. I feel I have no direction. Level 1 etc I hoped would give me that. Any advice@@AshleyHagen
@@barrymoore6902 Do you currently have a teacher, or a studio, or a program that you are able to follow and receive coaching from? Level 1 is going to be very different from teacher to teacher and style to style. Find what you connect with and keep going deeper down that path. Don't worry so much about the class labels.
Nice video! 👍 I purchased last year your course “a new yoga teacher’s guide to yoga class creation”. I saw that you have a new course called focused flow, what is the difference with your previous course? Is it the same book with some updates?
Awesome! Yes, it is different. It includes my ebook, but is not the same. The content is basically expanded and I provide a few more simple methods within the 10 set guide base.
Hi Ashley! What type of class would you tell your students this ladder flow is? I have a hard time talking in introduction so how would I explain this ladder flow in the beginning? For ex: "Today we're focusing on blah blah blah" if that makes sense. Lol 😅
It depends on the poses I choose for the sequence. It might be something like "we are working up towards (post)." Or I wouldn't say there is a pose focus at all, and instead it's a theme or muscle group. It's usually done in a vinyasa class. I don't think you need to necessarily explain it to students. The teacher I went to that taught this style just simply taught. Not explanation of how it works and didn't call it anything except "yoga."
THe point you make at 2:30 is opposite of Tai Chi as they aim to rotate the hips a lot in that practice. Any comment on that? though they have both feet on the ground as they transition. Am trying to see if the point you made is really of value (injury prevention).
This is not a tai chi practice. When flowing through the poses at a faster pace frequently, it can be a lot to constantly have to readjust. It makes it just not feel awkward and unstable. If you want to go back and forth, that’s up to you. You’ll also have to readjust the feet every time, too. If a pose is just one inhale long, it can simply be frustrating since the transitions involve so much more re-set. *Not medical advice.
I have two clients in one class. One can't go on.her knees at all the, the other can do no Downward dog or uttanasana due to dizziness.... Sequencing for me is such a task for these two.
Have you attended a yoga teacher training? This should be discussed in depth in training. Giving permission to modify or opt-out and also providing variations for poses that you know someone might struggle with. Make sure you have everyone read and sign a waiver. Mention contraindications and "what tends to happen" and how to fix it. That's some of the basics.
Yogasana, I am really surprise how people think yoga is posture. Actually the asana practices is the warm up of the real path of yoga… Meditation and here are the long and deep path in many level…
I like your knowledge in teaching and sequencing of asanas in studios … but please be careful to use yoga because yoga means integrity. Not asanas sequencing for studios
