    Thank you Simon!💯🔥
    In my *romantic relationships* I always looked at it as *finite* because my goals were more short term and now my relationship is in an *infinite* mindset.💃
    Which likely sounds *"duh"* to most people, but it was such an *AHA moment* shift for me.🤯

    Interesting that you should use ping pong as an example of a finite game. Years ago I made alternate rules to the game that are more infinite-minded.
    1. Play on it (wherever the ball goes, try to hit it back with anything in the general direction of the other player).
    2. There are no points so don’t bother trying to win.
    3. Optional rule: if you need more of a challenge, try not to let the ball hit the table.
    The result of these rules was that a player challenged himself/herself to hit the ball rather that trying to defeat the other player. This version is infinite to the extent that the players have energy and enthusiasm to keep going. I found it much more fun to play this way.

    So I bought the book because start with why kick-started me. Just finished a few chapters and I recognized something: we have a sport called beach tennis. This is the best example for a team acting infinite. First, there is no winner. And so there is no loser. Second, it's meant to be played without an end. You play as long as possible. If I transfer this to a team in a business unit, this shows interesting things: somebody has to start with a serve. ( I love this word here because it nails it) if you do it bad, others will have difficulties. So better do a good serve. If others don't do a good job for the return, you will be in trouble. All eyes on you then. But you can still make it and save the team so the game continues and you can reach a higher strike series together. Not sure if you agree but I will keep this in mind for future conversations about finite and infinite games.

    About rugged individualism, the point of this is that when the emergencies come, and they will, the individual is ok themselves and can help others. Apparently some of the individualists don't know.

    You mention society telling entrepreneurs to pay themselves first. My mind splits on this, A. Successful business builders aren't money focused, building their people is paying themselves first. B. When there is money, putting/keeping it in the business or paying the business first is also paying themselves first.

    I know the point at 32:14 was stated as an absolute and was probably meant as a generalization, but one of my fondest moments on social media was when someone argued with me for hours in a comment thread because of something I posted. I didn't want to keep arguing after a while, knowing that the other person was unlikely to change their mind anytime soon, much less because of me, and it was getting very late. I was under no delusion that I was going to change their mind. I felt called to continue in a way that made me think I ought to do so. I knew other people may read a few comments, but surely no one would read them all. But I continued anyway. Sometime around 2 or 3 in the morning, we mutually brought an end to the discussion. For several months, I wasn't sure of any positive outcome. Two things would happen later on, involving two different people, despite social media being about the worst place to consider dialogue or changing minds.
    1. Because of the subject matter of life & death topics that I often deal with, and the tone I used, the person I argued with knew they could come to me about a different topic involving death (not suicide in case anyone wonders). The information I was able to share on that topic felt rewarding, and I knew that if we had just blown up at each other previously and blocked each other, this cherished moment could not have happened.
    2. The original subject matter was a very controversial matter. Unknown to me, a mutual friend of the two of us did read every comment from the hours of back and forth. She knew I was knowledgeable, and the tone probably helped. I made points that many people never hear in an argument where many people claim they have heard all of the arguments and rarely have. She started out opposed to my view on this matter. She didn't change on the spot, but less than a year later, I visited my hometown and saw her, and she said she's not sure that she ever told me, but her mind changed on that matter because of that long comment chain. This was a profoundly cherished moment of mine.
    These successes don't mean social media should be our first choice for dialogue; I stand by it being among the worst options. But there have been people who changed their minds on very serious and controversial matters because of a social media post. But it took lots of work with the right tone, respect, and solid arguments. So now we can say at least 1 out of every 1 trillion posts might possibly change one mind, maybe.

    Why features of Just Cause remind me the Soviet Union so much? (I grew up there). And yet all of that ended up being the most suppressing ideology for an individual. “You have to live for others” ends up in bunch of unhappy, passive, shaming each other people. Why not “you have the only duty in this life - to be happy!” Because you don’t trust people and think that their happiness will always be destructive for others? Why you don’t trust individualism?

    • @danielr5343
      @danielr5343 3 года назад

      It sounds like our end goal is to impose the infinite mindset on others. That's not what this is. An infinite mindset of treating other people right gives people CHOICE. The Soviet Union tried forcing others to put others first.
