    Winning players all know that you can't allow fear of losing to dictate all your play. This video spoke to me as I have had to overcome my own fears to become a more winning player myself. Garrett leverages his relatively massive roll in spots where he feels like his opponents aren’t willing to risk their stack in the hand when he’s on a big draw and when he has the best hand, so he turns it into a guessing game and still gets action when he does have it because of this. He also seems to run like a god and hit whenever he needs to when he gets looked up.
    His ranges are pretty standard despite the fact that he buys in very big (he always makes sure he has everyone else at the table covered). Some players who prefer playing at that stack depth do so because they want to really mix it up and widen their ranges and get creative, but the bottom of Garrett’s range will still only be small pocket pairs or suited connectors/1 hoppers, etc. even when playing super deep.
    What makes Garrett so tough to beat are a combination of three things. The first being the fact that in poker, bankroll size can give anyone a HUGE edge if they know how to properly leverage it the way Garrett does. The second is how good Garrett always seems to run. And the third is that Garrett is still solid enough to find big folds in inflated pots when he feels like he’s beat.

    Doug I agree 100% with your experience that losing hurts more when you don't play that much. You have to get in the regular losing-winning rythm to be ok with losses. It's really weird how strong that difference is. I think it's completely about how much you play, not an age thing or anything like that

    • @getmeoutofsanfrancisco9917
      @getmeoutofsanfrancisco9917 Год назад +1

      Definitely. I found that with an increased sample (and healthy bankroll) I don't feel bad about losses. I honestly could care less about the dollar amount lost (at least at the typical live 2/5). I don't care about bad beats, coolers, etc. In fact, instances such as insane coolers make me smile (and even laugh). I just top-up and move on to the next hand. It doesn't phase me one bit.
      The blaring exception to this would be if I happened to made an egregious error, or a series of errors during a given session. That is soul-destroying to me. Even if I end a session with a large win, I psychologically beat myself up on the drive home. I tell myself "I didn't deserve this". In large pots where I happen to stack someone, I even apologize if I believe I made an error where I just so happened to suck out (for instance). Which is undoubtedly ridiculous to do (especially because ime the majority of live 2/5 players happen to be absolute button-clicking fish), but I digress.

Garretts fold is way more insane, I feel, than Doug's. Both are absurdly insane great folds and qualities of what makes of great world class players . But I would think Andy can show up here with JJ and 99. Also Garretts hand was heads up to flop where Doug's was multi-way on the flop.
