So cool. When you came in on final, you flew right over my mom and dad’s house. They lived right off of Southwest Parkway near the airport. Show him enjoying this video.
@@DeweyDavenport you are making me more and more excited about getting to fly one of the champs later this month. I’ve been flying gliders during my training but the champ looks like a really exciting adventure. Thank you for all that you do Keep on flying.
My ol' stompin' grounds! OH. HOW I MISS NEW MEXICO. Aztec, Santa Fe, (it's always windy there) Tucumcari (That's NM too). The roadsigns on Route 66 said... Tucumcari Tonight. The "Land of Enchantment" is gorgeous! Hope your enjoying this great flight.
Thanks for taking us along on your flight. Scenery is amazing and I really enjoy the instruction you provide along with the great video. We miss not having our Champ anymore but flying along with you helps us reminisce about the good ole days.
I live in Midland, Texas. Not sure what days these were shot but the wind in March has "Roared in like a lion," in Texas! 35MPH groundspeed was a hoot!
Dewey I love your ferry flight video's especially when the aeroplane you are delivering to its new owner is something challenging on sheer distances,I like your sensible always alert to changes planning,I could sense that crosswind pushing your airplane sideways ! the sheer vastness of your beautiful country with such stunning scenery as well, remote no tower airfields with only traffic radio, the little Champ looks lost on some of those wide runways. You certainly earn your money on these ferry flights no doubt about that, ferrying is not for everyone it needs the experience and knowledge that you have and the determination to succeed. As you were flying over those remote areas I was wondering how many crop dusters were down there at work ? and also remote airstrips too with some vintage airplanes in old barns and hangars. Thank you so much for allowing us the privalige of sharing your flight with us it is always a great honour sir.
Thank you Angel. I appreciate your kind words. I have another ferry job coming up in the next month or so that will knock your socks off. The aircraft is something very special.
Dewey, I landed at Tucumcari when bringing my Champ from Charlotte, NC to Carson City, NV a couple years ago. Windy in that area. It was gusting to 30 when I landed at Hereford, TX., the highest surface winds on my 24 fuel stops. Lucky for me, Hereford has a grass cross runway. Your skills are way beyond mine. I could barely Taxi it those winds at Hereford. I love watching your videos. You have an extra hour range over my stock 1946 7AC. I bet your useful load is lower than my 459 with that O200. Nice to have the extra power I bet.
Super great vid, Dewey. Love the scenery. Drove a truck and a Stinson over that ground a few times. Keep up the great work. Love the Champ! Happy feet in crosswinds. LOL!
Gotta love the folks who make the effort to post such videos. I've just completed a 599nm flight in the rear seat of a plane I last flew 46 years ago! Thank you!
Love those ferry flights with the old clasic airplanes the landscape was amazing too. I have one little complaint and that is the music sometimes drowns out your voice. Safe travels.
Thats some good mileage for a day in a champ Dewey! Did Orlando to Indy in a day in a 7CCM once but had 14-15 hours of daylight. Good times, enjoy the ferry videos!
Adore this kind of video. Scenery, music, editing, the Champ. Everything about it. Glad I stumbled across your channel, makes me want to finish what I started 20 years ago and get my license
Nice ride and great video! Do you actually use a device like a spot for SAR tracking, considering not having a transponder in this (obviously) remote areas? Or is there an ELT in? Thanks and always happy landings.
I'm very surprised that you didn't know which state Tucumcari was in!!!! Didn't know the Champ ever had a 100 horse engine. The one I learned to fly in (1959) had a 90 hp engine (hot damn!). Keep up the good articles.
Amazing, Deway, what a journey, question is this a 7AC or 7EC? Those it have a C85? How many gallons in all the thanks. Please take care and keep posting videos of the ferry flight. Greetings from south America
Hmmm. I don't know.. I have landed in 20 plus knot crosswinds in a champ a time or two. I wouldn't recommend it. I would say a good X wind limit would be 10 knots or less. I have been flying Champs for over 25 years and I have done a lot of ride hauling in my biplanes over the years, so I keep pretty proficient.
@@DeweyDavenport I was under the impression that a Champ grossed out at 1220, but I'll defer to your knowledge of the subject. Thank you and safe flying!
Matthew it hasn't been to difficult to plan around those airspaces. I haven't had to deal with a lot of complex airspace on my ferry flights. The good thing about the Champ is that it doesn't have a electric system in it so it does not require a transponder. Aircraft that are originally without electric systems can operate without a transponder and they can still operate under B,C airspace. That's another plus for a aircraft with no electric
That's a good question. Flying around in a champ doesn't allow much gear to be carried but for me I had a couple things that would hold me over for a couple hours. A couple layers of clothes, ski pants, heated coat and gloves, a couple bags of hand foods, fruits and veggies. Lighter, hand warmers, etc Then the normal Elt, com radio and cell phone which worked perfectly at 9000 feet. A number of folks knowing my flight path is also a advantage. What do you carry in your champ
Im not sure what the cross component was on the landings. When I was doing the shorter legs I was planning on airport's that had runways favoring the winds.
Wow Dewey, 22 mins to drain your bladder. You ,must have a large bladder! Ha Ha Great video as usual!
Great job Dewey! Really enjoyed it
Thanks Michael.
This takes me back to my Champ flying days. Those sunny, crisp, cold days were the best.
So cool. When you came in on final, you flew right over my mom and dad’s house. They lived right off of Southwest Parkway near the airport.

Gregory that is neat that you were able to see that from this video. I appreciate you watching the videos.

@@DeweyDavenport Looking forward to that Dewey, got me thinking now as to what type of airplane it is ?
Dewey thanks for the ride. Almost felt like I was riding along with you in the back seat. What spectacular scenery.

Thanks Dewey! Wish i could be there with you, this is the next best thing.
Great video! The weather has been great lately up here in NH we’ve been flying our champ a a lot lately! 👍
Great series! I can't wait for part 3!
Thanks @israelaeon. Part 3 should be out in the next few days.
What a great trip! Thanks for taking along again Dewey!

The trip was a lot of fun. The hotel wasn't the best in Wichita Falls
Always great videos !!!!!
Nice video and flying! Thanks for sharing. Fly safe!
Would definitely make for a long day of flying but I bet it was still amazing none the less 😁
It was a long day but very fun. The Champ is very comfortable to chill out in for a day or two. Lol
Tucumcari, still in NM. Sorry. Nice Champ always liked that paint scheme.
I really like the champ but the scheme is not my favorite
Tucumcari! Cmon Dewey, I know you were listening to Willin' while ferrying

Mine had 65😅
Bet you had no trouble sleeping that night 8.6 hrs and all that bumping around😜

Great video but the music was over powering when you were talking to the Santa Fa tower.
Sorry but thanks for watching.
I have high hopes of making it to your barnstorming carnival this year!
In an airplane like the champ, what is your personal limit for crosswind on a landing?
Three tanks! What is the max gross weight of this bird? It's definitely not the 1220 lbs. of a standard 7AC...
The standard gross weight for a 7AC is 1320. That is what this Champ is. The useful load isn't that good but if your solo it doesn't matter to much.
@@DeweyDavenport I was under the impression that a Champ grossed out at 1220, but I'll defer to your knowledge of the subject. Thank you and safe flying!
How difficult is it to plan your cross countries having to stay away from class B and C air space since you don’t have a transponder? Very impressed
Matthew it hasn't been to difficult to plan around those airspaces. I haven't had to deal with a lot of complex airspace on my ferry flights. From a Champ pilot flying remote mountain areas, Southern Sierra, what survival equipment do you take along? Thanks for sharing.

In addition, I use a Spot in case of no cell signal.
Just curious, what was the cross wind component on those landing? I would be a bit twitchy flying in that kind of wind.
Im not sure what the cross component was on the landings. When I was doing the shorter legs I was planning on airport's that had runways favoring the winds.
Did I miss Part 3? I pray you are OK
You didn't miss part 3. I hope to have it up 8n the next couple days.
How much do you charge to ferry an airplane?
