Just wanted to ask a question regarding installation. You guys have made it seem really easy. I have seen other videos of different bikes having a mechanical tensioner installed and they have found TDC prior to removing the hydraulic tensioner and installing the mechanical unit. Is this overkill, or is the BMW somehow different, so requiring a different technique?
Hello, just got a 2018 s100xr, love the bike. But I hear a rattling winning loose chain, in “N” like it just keep spinning? Will this solve that issue ?
I'm actually waiting on this to arrive and have a question: is it easy to feel the threaded piece against the plunger? and then how easy to feel the chain rail against the plunger? To make sure you are not pushing it too far? Thanks
Is it exactly the same on the 2015 S1000R? Mine makes a rattling noise. And can the I have on my bike now be adjusted to make the noise disappear? Thank you
Hopefully I can get an answer… first thank you for the video, I have a 2020 S1000XR and my engine makes this same rough metallic start.. is this part should fit, or better not even try… And what the solution for 2nd Gen… cause I tell you, is it not pleasant to hear..
I have a device for the newer model that i have made but it is in the testing phase. It will not be an easy installation as the tensioner is located in a different spot that requires professional installation. So at this time I am trying to decide if it will make production. I can tell you it does fix the problem and makes the motor have much better response and eliminates the noise. The tensioner in this video will not work with the newer models though that is for sure. Email me directly and i will keep you in the loop with production process. CJ@SOCALMOTOWERKS.COM
@@socalmotowerks8526 thank you for your prompt response. I will email u to keep in touch with the progress. I would definitely make a detailed video with your product, step by step how to “open”the bike and install your device.. thank for your great product.
I really like your vids, but im here to see if you can help me! Im having problems with the original chain cam tensioner, my 2018 s1000r is having lots of vibatrion in that cam chain, i already changed the original hydaulic tensioner 2 times, and for one month or less the issue its gone, then it comes back again. Any problems with the manual tensioner? How many miles or kilometers between ajusments. Thk in advance sir!
No problems with the manual tensioner. The problems you are having is why we made this tensioner. As far as adjustments go, our customers say they never adjust it they set it and forget it.
Hello there, last year my tensioner was replaced at the service station, since then I have done about 23k km ... now especially with a cold start ignition I hear a loud sound again. Can I reset the tensioner as mentioned at the end of the video, or do I need to change the whole tensioner again? Thanks for the ansver in advance😉
Silver cap is just a thicker cap (pushes the oil driven plunger in a bit further) and is not a solution to the fundamental issue. As for your other question, these barely ever need adjustment over the life of the bike. Cam chain doesn't usually stretch that much to cause rattle, it's the oil driven plunger not providing enough tension. Most people go 10s of thousands of kms without needing to adjust it, but probably a good practice to recheck at every oil change, or if you start to hear a rattle coming back then you can adjust a little on it, usually barely needs anything (less than quarter of a turn)

SoCal MotoWerks So what is the actual cause of the Ticking? is it easy to hear when the issue is starting to appear. The bike is naturally noisy and it must be hard to hear when something is starting to go wrong. I have an XR and want to know what I should be listening out for. Thanks
Kryten L The motor on the s1000 does have a lot of noise for sure but most of it is between the clutch basket and the cam chain tensioner. The tension on the cam chain is insufficient and this part fixes that problem. If you stand on the right side of your bike and the rattle noise is coming from the upper cylinder head area then you have a tensioner problem. This will fix it
SoCal MotoWerks i going to buy s1000r tommorow . I checked that bike a week ago And only consider why I didnt buy its a aweful rattling noise from The engine. Can you give me your e-mail And I will send you the video ? Can you check if this bike has same noise ? Thanks
This is a complete wast of time it goes in no further than the original and has no movement abilities for the chain safety and if that end nut comes loose while driving your bike you can kiss your engine goodbye, don’t do it
First off if the nut comes loose while you are riding your bike then you had no business working on your bike in the first place. Secondly this product is actually designed to have more movement to adjust for chain slack than a factory tensioner does that’s why it works. You must have bought one of those cheep aftermarket Chinese ones and not ours.
Bought one, installed in about 20 minutes and works like a charm! Great product and superb quality.

Which model years have that problem? I got the 2018 S1000XR. Thank you.
How often should the manual adjuster be adjusted? every 1000km?
Most people have stated that they never need to adjust it

If your chain is that bad change it you can’t keep pushing the tensioner guide in
Is these rattle when start up bad for engine if i dont change to silver plug? Please awnser me
Overtime, yes. BEtter to address it now rather than later.
what could happen later? @@AGATools
What is the diffrence between this and the updated silver cap that you can get at the bmw motorrad dealer after 15.000km?
Silver cap is just a thicker cap (pushes the oil driven plunger in a bit further) and is not a solution to the fundamental issue. Is it recommended to exchange it preventiv? Thanks for feedback
Stefan L. I would recommend it simply because it isn't a matter of if it will fail but when.
What's the part number? I just removed my stock tensioner last week to inspect it, the timing chain is getting noisy after 19k miles.
Cuban Rider this is a Southern California MotoWerks part. If you would like to purchase one email cj@socalmotowerks.com
SoCal MotoWerks thanks, I plan to get a tensioner in the next couple of months; I'll contact you then.

Is this related to the noisy ticking sound that some people have been reporting?
Kryten L Yes this product creates a fix for the ticking noise

I think more what he ment was. Should the tensioner be solid/non moving? The factory is spring loaded. ??
