Video was great! Glad you and Nick had a good time. Great find on the GP38, looks fantastic. Oh, love your head shaking in Nicks video while looking at the battery operated trains at the Lionel booth.😅
The NJT GP38 is indeed and excellent engine. And the sounds are fantastic. The engine possesses a powerful industrial "earthiness" of its kind in a O gauge model train. True, who cares if it's not a matching combo. Sometimes, The Long Island RR runs EMD MP15 (MP-15DC) switchers motive power on routes pulling passenger cars. And another combo once used on passenger routes was the MP-15 as the leading, with the its cab end, coupled to the butt end of the a FA Diesel, pulling passenger cars.
It looks like you had a good time Dave, and proably a better one with Nick along for company! Love that Baldwin caboose! I've never seen one like ti anywhere and the nice thing about it is as a demonstrator you can run it with any freight train. Oh, the Jersey Central and B&O were sister companies so don'e worry about double-heading the CNJ Geep with the B&O one, no-one can say it never happened! That B&O bus is a nice one! Did you know the B&O ran a shuttle bus service from Manhattan to the Jersey Central's terminal in Jersey City? It's true, the B&O buses made a circuit to various spots (I don't remember where) as part of their passenger service. Traveling on the B&O you were in their care once you were on the bus, acros the river, on the train, and to your destination. Some service, huh? The Amherst show looks pretty good. Not one I'm likely to got to though, just too far away. York will have to do. Thanks for posting!
Nice video! The show looked interesting, but was a bit lacking in the O gauge department. At least the usual suspects were there. I did think about going, but it is a long way from Toledo. I may have, though, had I been out East in Atlantic City. It did look like they had some nice stuff there, but just not enough to make the 650 mile drive.. Just like York, you can always meet-up with fellow RUclipsr's, which is neat. I like that classic B&M Geep and the Jersey Central Geep is sweet. You just can't have enough Jersey Central, which is something that I will look for in February, at the upcoming shows in my area. An excellent video, as always.
I couldn't make that trip in a day. I arrived Friday and left Monday. Of course I grew up there so I was visiting family in between. Not sure if I will do that show again, the time of year, distance, and lack of O gauge vendors make it a tough sell. Overall it was a great experience though.
GP 38 is a great engine I got the UP version. I got mine at auction for a steal The smoke unit is very weak on mine. The previous owner disconnected it.solid puller and good low speed control Great video
Just as an obscure note. REA Railway express agencies cars are always next in line behind the locomotive. REA was refrigerated and ran by the compressor on the engine or locomotive. Engines stopping at small stations, unloaded the REA cars right at the station and this allowed the engineer and the fireman to receive their next orders at the same place. The same held true for passenger trains. That’s why the baggage car was right behind the locomotive for the same reasons. Great video keep up the good work David.
Good points, but another reason for the baggage car behind the locomotive and tender was adopted in the 1850s. A baggage car behind the tender was a feature for passenger safety in case of a collision and it made sense in those days of unexpected "cornfield meets." The baggage car behind the locomotive lasted right up until pretty recently. Now you don't see it so often on Amtrak trains as they've found the current generation of baggage cars work well tin stabilizing the train when placed at the rear of the consist. Sorry to be so wordy!
Very cool items, Dave. When it comes to model railroading, I find we are very similar in our tastes and justification for our reasoning behind what is acceptable and a good value for our layout. Is it possible that we could be brothers from another mother or are we just frugal?
Awesome Acquisitions for sure. Love your video! Thanks🙏🙏🔥👍

Nice. No smokers in my K-lines, maybe I’ll add them at some point. Probably not.
@dagryffynhobby sometimes I think smoke is not necessary
I shut them down often
It's like smoking chemical marlboro
