Garuda is more secure on privacy policy than Linux Mint but requires the use of pacman to install specific software which doesn't bug me if you want Arch Linux out of the box I do recommend Garuda Dragonized which allows full customization just like Arch Linux and it works a lot better than SteamOS.

Someone needs to make a real working Windows 7 theme because Arch Linux has that and you can make it look very similar to Windows 7 I swear to god just use Manjaro if you want a theme that is similar to Windows 7 it's very breath taking I do love Linux Mint Cinnamon though for that classic Windows type feeling I need a penguin adapter though the distros I use work with my adapter out of the box.

Thank you for focusing on the Xapp initiative, which is one of the most important ones in the Linux world for years. I am curious whether the Pop OS team, who are developing their own Cosmic Desktop, would consider joining such an initiative, since they are writing a lot of the basic apps themselves.

It's imperative devs don't create their own ecosystems with no regard for other projects. To do so is counter productive. It is imperative that more common standards are created and followed by all. All applications should be created to fit in with all DEs. The failure to do so is one of the things that keeps many people away from Linux, and is very frustrating for many Linux users.

    Hi Jean,
    Thanks for your Video
I'm a Mint user (21.3 XFCE) and very Happy about
I choose xfce cause I find it uses less ressources
As (future) substitutes for Mint I'd wish Arch or Gentoo; and in practice (due to my real low tech level) I'd rather install Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12 as for my work I need an OS that works without taking more than half my work time (more than 20 hours/week)

I just switched to Mint from Windows yesterday. I'm struggling to understand how to do basic tasks, but I just don't want to have Microsoft in my life anymore and I already only used foss applications for a long time except Ableton.

It's getting harder nowadays for applications from alien toolkits to co-exist. Budgie is facing the same problem as Cinnamon because it has to rely on GTK 3 applications, such as Eye of MATE and Tilix, to maintain theme consistency. This is why Budgie will eventually adopt a different toolkit and COSMIC is already doing so. This is not an issue on Plasma 6 because all of the Qt5 applications have been upgraded to Qt6.

It really is time for these other non-Gnome DEs to start working together. And maybe we need to actually see a fork of GTK. NOT looking forward to that, but I think we need it, because Gnome has coopted GTK+ as _their_ thing for them and them alone.
We definitely need to see more DE-independent or cross-DE apps again. It shouldn't matter if you were using GTK or Qt something else-it should work well enough from the start. That doesn't happen right now, but it can and it should. I really like the idea of an independent Xapp group.

@@knghtbrd As long as the X apps pick up the Breeze Qt themes seamlessly as with MATE apps, then yes.

I am debating on either an Arch based distro or Linux Mint because for those who want SteamOS please use an Arch based distro instead of HoloISO I am currently using Garuda Dragonized which is basically Arch Linux out of the box ran by Garuda running the same system. They also have a Cinnamon edition of their system Linux Mint has me more convinced because of the aesthetic design and reminds me of early Windows I am giving Garuda about a week then might be popping over to Linux Mint Cinnamon for a more classic Windows approach which is what I mainly wanted Garuda Cinnamon doesn't seem to like my controllers so much if Linux Mint Cinnamon starts acting like older Windows and brings more to the table I am thinking about switching back to Linux Mint because of their privacy policy.

I know that people are changing to Linux, but I think it would be a good choice for Linux to make a thumb drive with an easy installation,
and sell it for £5.00, that would take the load off the servers and give some income to Linux.

I am 65 years old and yesterday, after much hesitation, I made the decision to install Linux Mint on an older laptop.
At first everything seemed to work perfectly. Then I discovered that I absolutely could not activate my Bluetooth adapter.
After some research it turned out that this is a common problem in Linux. I am therefore disappointed with the hype surrounding this operating system.
