I have never seen Vegemite on anything at Maccas. Also, we really don't say Crikey that much. I'm pretty sure whoever made this video filled a hat full of stereotypes and pulled from it Edit: My soul dies a little bit every time she pronounces "Maccas" like that. Please, just say McDonalds. Saying Maccas doesn't work without the accent
Our maccas has a McCafe built into it- so they’re in the one restaurant but have their own section. Order at same drive thru but go to a different window.
I suggest you google mcdonald australia menu and check it out- this lady is making it sound a bit more exotic than it is I think. Don’t get me wrong- there is some good variety- yeah- check the menu out for Australia :-)
within the first 7 mins of this video, the only thing she got right was that we call it maccas. McCafe isnt a spinoff branch, it is built into most mcdonalds so you can just order at the register but you have to pick it up at the other counter
McCafe isn’t a seperate building. It’s still in the Maccas restaurant it’s just a different counter to order from with cafe style food and it’s pretty good coffee.
Coffee is excellent but it depends on who makes it. The younger, hotter and sweeter the girl making it, the worse the coffee usually is. If the barista is older, plain looking and a bit grumpy you'll get amazing coffee. My rule of thumb!
G’Day, J, The only place to buy a hamburger is a proper hamburger store. Buy a hamburger with the lot and you will not be able to have a second because they are so filling. Stay Safe. NB: They do have value meals here. 🇦🇺🇺🇦
Can't seem to edit my other comment anymore but some other things: 1. Dollar menu exists as a loose change menu, most things are $2 or so. Not sure what these folks were on but it's always been around 2. Desserts like cakes, pastries, etc requires a full McCafe to be present, otherwise you're limited to the standard sundaes, mc flurries, apple pies, etc.
The whole ‘no value menu’ thing is not true at all. Maccas has always had a value menu in Australia, at least at every Maccas I’ve been to, and that’s gotta be atleast a hundred 😅 And the table service, wooden boards and wire baskets died out a few years ago. As did the custom burgers.
Every Maccas I've been into in the past few years still does the table service thing, it's become even more common since they brought out the order and pay touch screens. Just order on the touch screen, pay at the touch screen, select table service, grab a number sign and sit down, no need to go to the counter at all unless the order screen is broken or not accepting cash.
I mean we have customizable burgers, you can select the toppings and all that but only on the machine in the mcdonald's building. They aren't super customizable, but you do still get an option. Like adding pineapple, beetroot, meats and whatnot. Not to like huge extent but still there.
@@mucharound I don't count it anymore as everything gone up in price, Hashbrowns almost costing 3$. Give another couple years it go to 3.50$. The chicken and cheese and cheese burger were 2$ now 4$.
Instead of the value menu, we have 'loose change' menu items - because we have coins for $1 and $2, this makes sense. There's not a lot on it and it doesn't always show up as something separate, but if you look you can find the cheaper items (e.g. hamburgers for $2). Also, all those 'dessert' items are actually in McCafe, not general McDonald's. They are usually in the same building, but have counters in different parts of the store A number of little inaccuracies in this video. Also, the only place I have ever seen Vegemite at McDonald's is as a toast/muffin spread choice, just like jam or honey.
The problem you wll always face as a reactor viewing Ausralian content made from an overseas source (the USA in this case), is that it is often full of errors. This was the case here.
I've lived in Oz for over 30 years now and in all that time I've NEVER heard an Aussie say "crikey", that is something said for tourist promotion purposes, along with the infamous "shrimp" saying, so if any Merican comes to Oz they should be aware there is quite a few sayings only said in advertisements geared towards overseas tourism promotions and never said by Aussies.
We say crikey more often in the county than built up areas or cities. I noticed people don't say it all that much since I moved to the city n barely say it myself
@@cynthiamay738 I don't think my general area of Melbourne is known for growing up with Aussie slang which is probably why I don't hear it much. Though plenty of good food options in my area 😋
Just like Fosters, nobody drinks that, instead they drink arguably worse beers Like VB, Carlton and 4x! Some okay local brews are Cascade, Boags and even kinda ok great northern. We have heaps of killer microwbrewries these days.
Never seen a separate McCafe - they are all co-located in the same store. Vegemite is only a condiment for toast but I personally add it to my bacon & egg McMuffin. We have "Short Change Menu" where selected items are cheap.
Eggs on burgers are common in Australia. I always have egg on burgers - so good! You've got to search up a burger with the lot! Australia has much better places to get burgers than Macca's though. The coffee is decent but most Aussies will pick a cafe to get a coffee from whenever possible. Edit: And Macca's do not serve their food on wooden trays like shown, that is a completely different burger place! Ours are served on plastic trays.
No, some Maccas do use wooden platters and the wire baskets for chips as shown but not many anymore. You mostly see that at the stores that still serve your food at the table, though this is not as common either. Seems they discovered that you waiting near the counter is cheaper for them than having people serve you.
The wooden tray and wire basket came out with the create your taste range, due to labour costs they stopped it because they had to have a separately trained crew member for the range. Wasn't cost effective for the output.
The wooden trays and wire baskets were only for their "create your taste" burger range which they wrapped up a few years ago as it was too expensive to run, requiring extra grill space, staff, and several additional premium ingredients not on the regular menu. P.S. My local Mcdonald's still does table service outside of the busy hours.
maccas coffee is pretty good, they hire actual baristas and they work almost exclusively in the cafe section, a lot of mccafes are in maccas stores but have their own section separate from everything else
Yeah, they don't hire Baristas. It's the same teenagers who slap your burger together, they've just been taught to make coffee. The quality depends on how good they are.
McCafe coffees range from pretty nice to downright undrinkable. But they don't hire baristas. But you're not getting Maccas coffee to sit around and enjoy it, so its fine.
Hey there! Loved this video, just wanted to give my opinion from one Aussie- McCafe coffee isn't too bad id give it a 7/10. I think they found the key to parents coffee culture- theres Maccas food and the playground for the kids and a proper machine and Barista. Plus the baked goods, croissants and toasties. Yes we love eggs on our brekkie burgers/muffins or any burger for that matter haha. The deserts are limited to ice cream or apple pies unless the Maccas you visit has a McCafe. Lastly, the serving of food to your table on a wooden tablet was only a promotional thing, we still use the plastic trays. Keep the awesomeness going, really enjoy your videos!
Did you know that Australian Macca's fries are made with four ingredients, potato, canola oil, dextrose and mineral salt. American McDonalds fries are made with about 16, Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [wheat And Milk Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (maintain Color), Salt. *natural Beef Flavor Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat And Hydrolyzed Milk As Starting Ingredients.
Same in the uk. But when you think about it, healthcare is a buisness over there. Is there any wonder their government doesn’t care about what’s in their food? More 🤑
A lot of the 'features' this video talks about are only available at a few locations in touristy or inner city areas. Beetroot on a burger was a thing before we even had Maccas here. It has to be the sliced 'preserved' type from a can. Its like a sweet layer. Our bbq and tomato sauce isn't as sweet as ketchup but we get our sweetness on a burger from the beetroot, and also sometimes from grilled pineapple (with egg and bacon too :)). Most macca's don't have those desserts, you might find them if there's a McCafe included in the store, but a lot of times in your average suburban Maccas, there isn't.
Agreed, all the extra pastries ect.... were all Mccaffe but to be fair most Mccaffe's in my area (inner-Sydney) have that kind of range. Also, the wooden trays were only for the "create your taste" menu they wrapped up a few years back however my local Mcdonald's still does table service if you order outside of the busy hours.
The original video is so frustrating. 1. McCafe generally aren’t separate to McDonalds. Although McCafe was established in Melbourne. 2. The dollar menu thing was scrapped but there’s still cheap options on the menu and you don’t have to get a full meal.
McCafe ideal came from the Melbourne coffee culture, and now it’s world wide. I Really like Macca’s coffee. However, ours isn’t in a separate building, but it does have its own corner of the same building. It’s true, the cakes, pastries, and donuts are all there 😁👍
@@Rottnwoman I do “get out more” and I have tried some excellent coffee from my local barista, with excellent beans… HOWEVER ! Macca’s coffee isn’t as BAD as I thought it would be. I like it. They are all upping their game, even Hungry Jacks
For me the biggest differences in US McDonalds vs AU Maccas is that - they value their staff in Australia and pay them quiet well. You could definitely afford to live of a Maccas wage in Aus unlike in the US. You get holiday pay regardless if your part-time or full-time. - having Maccas on your Resume is not a bad thing in Australia, I know as I worked there as a Teen. In fact it has helped get me jobs in Adult life as the training is very good as it is extensive and thorough. They also put a major emphasis on Customer Service & they have mystery shoppers who rate the service, you do not want to get a bad rating. - the quality of the ingredients and produce is worlds apart comparing the US to Australia. In Australia it is all top quality. All in all, if it means the staff are treated well, paid a decent wage and the quality of food is of a fairly high standard, then I am happy with missing out on $1 value meals. In the end you can buy a single item or a full meal, up to you.
Tbh McCafe, while it's not the best coffee around, has a lot going for it. 1) you can order it through drive through (a big selling point, particularly if you're traveling and don't want to have to park and go into an cafe to get a coffee; 2) while it started out a little rocky in terms of quality, they've invested in upping the quality of the beans over the years, use automated brewing machines calibrated for their coffee to help idiot proof the whole process. I can't remember the last time I was presented with a terrible coffee because the barista had no idea what they're doing. It's cafe grade coffee with convenience part of the whole deal, maybe not the best coffee going around but is worth the price. Also, best fries we've ever had are "shaker fries" with El Maco seasoning - every once in a while they bring it back as a special themed run. Pretty sure the "Loaded Fries" range mentioned in the video was discontinued a good year+ ago due to supply chain issues, but it was nice while it lasted.
Generally the videos you watch about Australia have things pretty much right. This one gets a bit wrong though. Never heard of vegemite being on the Macca's menu or a "beetroot" burger. They do make the McOz (Aussie burger) which has beetroot, lettuce, tomato, cheese, egg, onion and beef from memory. Absolutely wrong about having to buy a full sized meal. You can always buy individual items .... just a burger, just fries, just coffee, just a milk shake. As for the name "Macca's", that comes from our habit of abbreviating names to make them more informal. Someone with a Mac or Mc name will be called Macca, Barry becomes Bazza, Karen becomes Kezza, Robert becomes Robbo and the list goes on.
Maccas buildings tend to have a mini McCafe inside, its not separate. MCafe actually started in Melbourne. When I was a kid they had that stupid bottomless drip system coffee and that didn't fly for long. We really really demand good coffee here. I love that look on your face with the deserts, like you really are pissed off that we have more deserts here lol With our frozen cokes we have different flavours too, I have vanilla and lime, together it tastes like a vanilla milkshake.
Also just to be clear you can buy single items here, you don't need to buy a whole meal, i.e. burger, fries, soda (if that's what you're concerned about)!
Yeah, nah. No-one says "Crikey!" And I've been having honey-mustard sauce with my Macca's fries for decades. Never seen Vegemite at Maccas though. And just quietly, I was the very first customer for McCafe. Ever. In the world. I was visiting Melbourne in the early 80s (82 or possibly 83) I was walking past the Maccas on Swanson street, when a very attractive young woman employee asked passers by to come and try the new McDonalds product. I thought what the hell -why not. As she was making my cappuccino she told me that this was a new thing that McDonalds Australia were trying out. This was the first store, and I was the first customer. It was fine (Australia had a strong coffee culture even back then, especially Melbourne. And McCafe was no better or worse than dozens of other cafes within a couple of blocks I love the fact that you found this video just as cringe-worthy as the Australians watching it. I think we must grant you honorary Aussie citizenship. Well done mate!
(I live in Queensland this might vary state-state) A lot of people don't know there's little vegemite tubs because it's not included in any menu item. It's more for parents who order a plain mcmuffin and then get butter and vegemite on the side. I also order mcdonald's coffee everyday before work. Super fast, convenient and their blend they upgraded to in like 2019 is great. You're just less likely to get an actual barista to make it so it depends on the quality.
I am down in Sydney and I asked about this a few months back when trying to get my daughter a toasted vegemite and cheese sandwich (her favorite) and they told me they don't stock it anymore.
McCafé in Australia learnt from the Starbucks debacle changed to better quality beans and hired specialists baristas so their coffee is actually pretty good
@@marcus1979oz I remember the first time I went to slack mcs and was pissed off showed a photo of the large meal with the price of the small meal, back when a big mac was 99 cents .... yep i'm old
Miss information in this video. When they say, Vegemite, they mean is one of the condiments that is available. Usually Vegemite is used for the breakfast menu and we put them on a McMuffin. So don't think that we put Vegemite on everything is only used for the breakfast menu.
The Mc Cafe thing was just that they saw an opportunity as Australia never had a starbucks style chain. It was a gap in the market and they exploited it perfectly.
I don't think it was that at all... I reckon, it was the mums sitting in maccas, letting their kid play, and not spending money doing nothing...💡 Make it a play date sorta occasion... Meet for coffee... exhaust the sprigs... exploit the lot... 💰💰💰
We had / have Starbucks in Australia. Yes we did. For about 2 years and it did not work. There are still a couple of Starbucks here in Melbourne, but not as many as there were. I just googled Starbucks in Melbourne and there are still 17 stores. ???
Fascinating, Joel! Wow, what cool local menu variations. Great looking choices!! Aussie McCafe is indeed pure genius!!!! Maccas is light years ahead of North America. It's MikeyD's here too; however, we do have local variation too like McLobster in the Maritimes. John in Canada
Mc Cafe is normally within the Mc Donald's, but on a separate ordering counter. Though Mc Donald's in food courts of shopping centres normally do not have full Mc Cafe range options though usually the Cofee and some extra sweet/cakes are available too. Also Mc Donald's have salad options for those not wanting burgers, or vegan diet.
Don’t try and order a meal as an “entrée” outside of North America. In the rest of the world you will be given what is called an “appetizer” in the US. It comes from the French word Entrée which, in Russian service, is the dish served before the Main Course. I don’t know why the word usage is different in North America.
Most McCafes are in the same building as the McDonald's itself. There may be a few locations where the McCafe is separate but you're usually have two counters inside the one building. You can order anything from either menu at either counter. The people that make the coffee in McCafe are trained baristas. Because Australia takes it's coffee so seriously McDonald's is constantly tweaking their coffee to get a better flavour.
Coffee is king in Australia. If your in one of the capital city’s or a big regional hub you’ll be able to get high quality coffee from many independent businesses. However if you live in a more regional area you might only have access to a McCafe within your local McDonalds outlet. The coffee is pretty good but it really depends on who is making it. They have yet to develop a coffee machine that is idiot proof
First, where in the world did they get 'defo' from, never heard anyone say that here (Australia) before now 😂 and second I've never seen Vegimite offered at any Macca's anywhere in Australia. 98% of McCafe's are in the McDonald's restaurant, just like the U.S.A. The other 2% are joined to the restaurant. Most people think the coffee is kind of ok and like the drive thru convenience however most us will drive past a Macca's to go to what we would say is a proper Cafe' to get coffee. We Aussies are proudly unapologetic coffee snobs.
Born over 50 years ago and raised in Australia apart from Steve Irwin and now his son Robert I have never heard anyone say crikey, have never known Vegemite to be on any burgers, there is a value menu, and don’t know of any McCafe that is in a different building. I really enjoy the work you do on your channel, have noticed other similar channels none of which seem to be done by Australians. I don’t know where they get their information from but so much of it is incorrect. Thank you though for a fun channel
You are absolutely right about the fries and I would almost cut it down to a 5 minute limit, then they're not fries anymore. We have 'Hungry Jacks', the carbon copy of Burger King and their fries last much longer simply because they;re much thicker than McDonalds. She says it's 100% Australian beef, but how many % of beef is actually in the patty. Again Hungry Jacks burgers is meatier and tastes more like real beef. Once in a blue moon I visit these outlets and if I end up at McDonlads I would most always order the Angus.
Maccas absolutely has dollar menu, its just not big, and it can change, it is usually a $2 cheeseburger a $1 small fries and maybe a $1 small shake / icecream. Also you can order individual items if you want, not always locked into meals.
McCafe coffee is pretty good. They use espresso machines and baristas. [So, it actually depends on how good the barista is....]. McCafe is not in a separate building, it's just a [usually] separate area within a regular Macca's, so you can have a coffee while your mates have a Big Mac, Or a coffee with your Big Mac....
No value menu is such a lie. We've had a "loose change menu" and you can absolutely buy single items. Hamburgers are $2 for instance (and IIRC was $1 at one point maybe 5ish years ago), McChickens were also only a couple dollars. Frozen coke for $1. You can get just fries, just a drink, just any one of the desserts they mentioned, etc.
I'm Aussie and I love McDonalds fav fast food. Also we did have a $1 menu but they removed it. Just have to remember our average wage is much higher than US, so it makes sense to not bother with a 1$ menu.
The Vegemite thing is really only as a spread for English muffins and McCafe is a seperate counter inside the restaurant. You can order items from McCafe menu at the main counter, they’ll just send you over to the mcCafe counter to collect it. The coffee is proper espresso as we don’t do drip coffee unless we’re at home and don’t have a “proper” coffee machine. The wooden plank was a gimmick for a special range of “gourmet” burgers, a few years ago, similar to the mcAngus but fancier. Everything else got plastic trays, unless you ordered it to takeaway.
I've never heard of a beetroot burger at Maccas, it maybe in the burger, but there's not one named as such. McCafe is generally in the Maccas store, and I regularly order a meal with a coffee. You can order individual items on the menu. This lady has no idea. We do have a loose change menu where you can buy food for $1 or $2.
True they do have the value options on the maccas app and beetroot is an option on burgers or when they release the Mc Oz on occasion but your right no beetroot burger as such
Pretty average video on McDonalds. Seems like it was made by someone who has only looked at a website. The biggest difference is the quality of the food, which is much higher than in other countries. McCafe is not a seperate store. It is still within a regular McDonalds just at a different counter. Loaded fries were only a limited run. It does have a value menu - it’s called the Loose Change Menu, and they often have deals on their App. Aussies love ice cream from maccas during summer. We definitely prefer going to 7/11 to get a slurpee rather than a maccas frozen coke. Wooden trays and wire baskets was also for a limited time and they don’t do that anymore. And they are fast, don’t know what this person is talking about.
I stop in at Macca's travelling from Canberra to Sydney about every two months. Sometimes I just order a Big Mac and a large skim flat white. You don't have to order a full meal. Can't eat their fries on their own, makes me feel sick. Always use the drive-thru then park and eat straight away. Not so good if not hot.
One of the things I find interesting in the US vs Australia McDonald's is the amount of extra stuff that the US seems to put in their food. For example, the "nutrition calculator" part of the US website says these are the ingredients of the humble fries: "Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [wheat And Milk Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (maintain Color), Salt. *natural Beef Flavor Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat And Hydrolyzed Milk As Starting Ingredients." In comparison, the Australian version of the website says fries here contain: "Potato, Canola Oil, Mineral Salt (450), Dextrose, Antifoam (1521)" What's all the other stuff for?
There's a basket of condiment sachets at every maccas at breakfast. Pick what you want when you order a plain English. It's been like that for over 30 years!
Seems Maccas has already improved McDonald’s in US… McCafé was an Australian innovation. Glad to see it’s spread its wings. Question is…is the coffee any good?🤔
I Woke up It's 3 in the morning here in Melbourne I'm watching this video ..thanks jps ...I'm hungry and maccas is about 150 meters from my house l will drive through l think l will get a classic chicken burger ... also at breakfast times you can order any burger or anything you want from the all day menu as well as breakfast stuff.
The info was accurate but none of the food she mentioned was not a picture of that food at our McDonald’s, For example when she said you can get a salad… they used a picture of a salad… stock image Instead of a picture of an actual maccas salad
A lot of things in this video is incorrect but I prefer Hungray Jacks anyway (Burger King in the US). Can't wait for Jollibee to have stores here though 😋
Thay have fazed out the high end menu thing where thay deliver it to you on the wood platter with the fries in a basket. That stopped during & after covid
McCafe is in the same building as maccas. One side of the front counter is fast food, the second side of the counter is McCafé. Both have their own branding and decor. It feels like two seperate stores but in the same building.
We do have value items - 1$ coke, fries, burger, Ice cream, even toasted sandwiches, loads of items. I don't know why every video about Australia is done by Americans, they get the pronunciation wrong, and half the info is wrong.
I have just done a drive around of three McDonalds establishments in Newcastle. Two of the three would seem to have undergone substantial renovations in recent times. The two renovated places seemed to have a separate entrance for the food and cafe sections. None of them have signage branding them as Maccas. I have been trying to think of an occasion when I went into a MacDonalds but if I have I can't remember. I don't drink coffee so that isn't going to attract me.
Fun fact, at 14.14 mark of this video, the guy behind the counter working in McDonalds was a photography student of mine last year. He was in this ad when he was working at McDonald’s as a 16 year old and now is a photographer here in Sydney.
They should do a video on how different KFC is between the countries, because it's legit night and day difference. American KFC is horrendous compared to what we have in Australia. As other comments say, this video isn't very well done. Yeah there are differences between Australian and American McDonald's, but it's more similar than not. KFC on the other hand, they are like 2 completely different restaurants.
I've never been a fan of Macca's - haven't even been into a store in over ten years, but watching the expressions on your face as you found out what we have here that differs to the American offering was priceless! Thanks for posting, you made my day!😀
In store you can be served your meal on a plate with cutlery & waiting staff , pay via app & select building your own burger options for different cheese or bread types as well as heaps of other variables..
Coffee in America is 95% dripolator crap. Here in OZ that is unheard of or even drunk. We have all sorts of coffee but they are mostly milk based. Flat white and Cuppachino being the most popular
I guess you could technically say we have never had a value menu But that’s because we called it something different We call it the loose change menu, same thing just different name
Nice video mate, Mc Cafe is inside all Macca's stores here in Australia its not a separate brick an mortar store & you don't have to buy an entree to buy a meal you can in fact buy anything separately or as a boxed meal :) as for getting hot fries thats rare haha unless you eat in & they're busy but a lot of the time you'll wait in drive thru and fries end up soggy and cold
We did have the value menu for many years. The basic reason they stopped it was the value menu costs them money for each item. Labour costs are much higher here, kids make $13/hr, as well as higher food costs. They were selling items for a dollar that cost over $2 to make.
Where is this American getting her information? I have never seen Vegemite in Maccas before and you’ll find a McCafe is inside most McDonald’s restaurants these days but never on its own, you order your coffee from the same place you order a cheeseburger 🍔
We have a value range now at the Australian McDonald's, I think the video your watching is just old. It's not as cheap as $1 it's more like $2-$4 but we do have it now.
Also, they did have the burgers come out on boards for a short time {6-12 months} about 5-6 years ago but it was a premium service at a slightly higher price but when they discontinued it they kept the higher price.
Most of the fry flavours have disappeared from the regular menu. Now they have found the commonly ordered ones. But every so often they have shaker fries or a speciality one
I have never encountered Vegemite on anything at MacDonads. The Maccas nickname is used sometimes, and it does actually make more sense than the American Mickey Ds, because it is actually an abbreviation of the name, not a whole different interpretation. McCafes are in the same building as the regular "restaurant" and the coffee is ok, though still not to the standard of an average Aussie cafe. You should check out the guys at the JOLLY page who do a comparison between Australian and UK fish and chips, and also Australian style burgers, though not burgers made with beef. ruclips.net/video/mGbCCLTfsD8/видео.html
Lol this video about Aussie maccas - we have individual items (burgers) - eggs are individually fried not cut in slices - coffee is passable - McCafé is just a different counter with pastries and real coffee (Aussie invention along with nicer cafe feel) - some of those menu items were limit releases - our large drink is like your small in size - the burger and wrap definitely higher quality
The McCafes are actually in the McDonald's, but they're different counters. It's basically a little Cafe in a Macca's... And yeah, they're reasonable coffees. I think people mostly like that they're pretty consistent, random cafes can be extremely hit and miss.
I have never seen Vegemite on anything at Maccas. Also, we really don't say Crikey that much. I'm pretty sure whoever made this video filled a hat full of stereotypes and pulled from it

There are some separate ones. I don't know how many, but no doubt more will open.
Coffee is excellent but it depends on who makes it. The younger, hotter and sweeter the girl making it, the worse the coffee usually is. If the barista is older, plain looking and a bit grumpy you'll get amazing coffee. My rule of thumb!
We have one in Geraldton that is a Cafe only...the other one is all in one.

Yeah, $1 and $2 items. It's not permanent but it does pop up from time to time. These American videos always get it wrong

Not to like huge extent but still there.
it's literally called the loose change menu in Brisbane, idk what this lady is on
@@mucharound I don't count it anymore as everything gone up in price, Hashbrowns almost costing 3$.
They are usually in the same building, but have counters in different parts of the store
A number of little inaccuracies in this video. Also, the only place I have ever seen Vegemite at McDonald's is as a toast/muffin spread choice, just like jam or honey.
Macca's USA Coke is Corn syrup based
Macca's Oz is Suger Cane based
So even the coke taste different!
Can confirm after having travelled to the U.S and trying their Macca’s coke, the aussie coke tastes way better.
@@metarugia3981 the coke also would depend on the water quality.
And it's best to ask for no ice or it tastes like water half way through.
Yes it does taste different. It's much sweeter in the United States.
Couldn't get coke at maccas in a country town north of Canberra a few years ago due to severe drought. The dam was very low and mildly toxic I think.
Surely though you’ve heard “bloody hell”?
We say crikey more often in the county than built up areas or cities. I noticed people don't say it all that much since I moved to the city n barely say it myself
Crikey is my go to word for just about anything. Must use it 25 times a day, here in Melbourne.
The wooden trays are only served with certain burgers. Not sure if they do table service anymore since covid...
I prefer Mcdonalds for coffe as I don't wanna get out of the car. But chai latte with caramel so good
The wooden tray and wire basket came out with the create your taste range, due to labour costs they stopped it because they had to have a separately trained crew member for the range.
I'm Australian, and a former cafe owner, Macca's coffee is a brew I avoid unless there is literally no other choice and even then I hesitate.
Sill better than Starbucks tho
maccas coffee is pretty good, they hire actual baristas and they work almost exclusively in the cafe section, a lot of mccafes are in maccas stores but have their own section separate from everything else
Nah, still water on coffee beans
Yeah, they don't hire Baristas. It's the same teenagers who slap your burger together, they've just been taught to make coffee. The quality depends on how good they are.
@@TheCamRonG1993 guess it depends where you go, the one near where i live has proper ones
scorching hot bitter brown milk... mmm - a long way from decent coffee, but it'll get you a fair way up the Hume
McCafe coffees range from pretty nice to downright undrinkable. But they don't hire baristas. But you're not getting Maccas coffee to sit around and enjoy it, so its fine.
Hey there! Loved this video, just wanted to give my opinion from one Aussie-
McCafe coffee isn't too bad id give it a 7/10.
Sounds delicious!
@@dunxy One of those above ingredients makes them yellow, not sure why American products to be more yellow than the natural colour.
Same in the uk. But when you think about it, healthcare is a buisness over there. Is there any wonder their government doesn’t care about what’s in their food? More 🤑
It's a canola oil blend actually. It has sunflower oil and high oleic acid canola oil mixed with the canola oil.
@Greg McCallum it just makes the colour consistent across every batch. Clearly Americans can't handle different.
Don’t freak out, we don’t put vegimite on the burgers, it’s more like the toast etc
I feel like an Aussie wrote this in satire and the American didn't get the scarcasm
In Australian we have the loose change menu where you can get a hamburger for $2 aud (1.38 usd) or chips (fries) for the same price.
Most macca's don't have those desserts, you might find them if there's a McCafe included in the store, but a lot of times in your average suburban Maccas, there isn't.
yes, those were all McCafe products.
We had beetroot on burgers before Maccas was a twinkle in Ray Kroc's eye.
@@BabyMakR so well said, I love it! I love beetroot with steak at a BBQ too. Something about that combination.
Beetroot doesn't belong anywhere but a bin.
It’s true, the cakes, pastries, and donuts are all there 😁👍
Hobart has stand-alone mcCafe without the whole store.
McCafé is common in major cities in China. Also in Bangkok and Pattaya.
Chai Latte with caramel so good
You need to get out more and try REAL coffee.
@@Rottnwoman I do “get out more” and I have tried some excellent coffee from my local barista, with excellent beans…
HOWEVER !
Macca’s coffee isn’t as BAD as I thought it would be. I like it.
They are all upping their game, even Hungry Jacks
For me the biggest differences in US McDonalds vs AU Maccas is that
- they value their staff in Australia and pay them quiet well.
I love that look on your face with the deserts, like you really are pissed off that we have more deserts here lol
With our frozen cokes we have different flavours too, I have vanilla and lime, together it tastes like a vanilla milkshake.
Also just to be clear you can buy single items here, you don't need to buy a whole meal, i.e. burger, fries, soda (if that's what you're concerned about)!
I gotta say, I like Hungry Jack's better than Maccas. I'm in South australia and I've never seen vegemite in maccas
Also in SA. They have the little plastic vegemite sachets with toast on the breakfast menu
IDK if this is still the case, but the ad used to go, "The burgers are better at Hungry Jack's" - and they were!
@@FionaEm i know right lol

Hungry Jack's also has honey mustard. The vegemite may have been a limited time promotional option on the breakfast menu.
This is obviously a add for Maccas. An incinerator feeding an incinerator.
And McCafe was no better or worse than dozens of other cafes within a couple of blocks
I love the fact that you found this video just as cringe-worthy as the Australians watching it.
I think we must grant you honorary Aussie citizenship. Well done mate!
Hahaha ok you were the first McCafé customer ever. Good for you

A lot of people don't know there's little vegemite tubs because it's not included in any menu item.

The Mc Cafe thing was just that they saw an opportunity as Australia never had a starbucks style chain.

We DID have Starbucks... it was bad. It failed.
You can order anything from either menu at either
counter.
"defo" is a thing 14-year-olds say.

6th Generation and I say Crikey, oops how un-Australian of me.
No one goes to maccas for coffee by choice. Coffee in maccas is what people who need instant coffee get while on the road.
A burger isn’t regarded as an awesome burger unless it has beetroot mate!! 😋😋😋😋
Also, an Australian dollar is only the equivalent of around 66 US cents.
Maccas is affordable here though, is why we don't have a value menu, litterally, a large tripple cheese burger meal is like $7
The Vegemite thing is really only as a spread for English muffins and McCafe is a seperate counter inside the restaurant.
Drinking your "proper" coffee would add nearly 1000 calories a day to my diet. I stick with home brewed drip filter made from medium roast beans.
@@Rottnwoman nothing to stop you ordering a short or long black. Purists will never drink coffee with milk in it, after breakfast

For the "value" options, we actually call it the "loose change menu".

We have snack stuff.
*natural Beef Flavor Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat And Hydrolyzed Milk As Starting Ingredients."
In comparison, the Australian version of the website says fries here contain: "Potato, Canola Oil, Mineral Salt (450), Dextrose, Antifoam (1521)"
What's all the other stuff for?
I don't know where this sheila got her info from, but I have never seen vegemite at our local Macca's, and Kentucky Fried has garlic aoli here. 😆
macca's also does have sweet mustard as a sauce i get it myself
There's a basket of condiment sachets at every maccas at breakfast. Pick what you want when you order a plain English. It's been like that for over 30 years!
Mac is more expensive in US- I just spent 5 months there- You can buy any single item here in oz-
Seems Maccas has already improved McDonald’s in US… McCafé was an Australian innovation.
The info was accurate but none of the food she mentioned was not a picture of that food at our McDonald’s,
For example when she said you can get a salad… they used a picture of a salad… stock image

i have never seen a seperate McCafe building that is outside of maccas... that might very well be a major city thing tho.
I feel like a lot of that was an Australia in a parallel universe! And NEVER seen vegemite as an option.
I guess you could technically say we have never had a value menu
But that’s because we called it something different
We call it the loose change menu, same thing just different name
Australia does have a value menu, its just called the 'loose change menu' so she's wrong there.

They have value menus here
Where is this American getting her information? I have never seen Vegemite in Maccas before and you’ll find a McCafe is inside most McDonald’s restaurants these days but never on its own, you order your coffee from the same place you order a cheeseburger 🍔
I lived in Australia for 12 years and you can definitely order items singularly. You don’t need to buy a whole meal.
We do not put Vegemite on our burgers it's to put on toast from the Breakfast menu 😋
Maccas coffee is awesome. Starbucks tasted like burnt brown water.
Your reactions are priceless!! 🥰😍😀You make me laugh in nearly every video.
Lol this video about Aussie maccas
- we have individual items (burgers)
- eggs are individually fried not cut in slices
- coffee is passable
- McCafé is just a different counter with pastries and real coffee (Aussie invention along with nicer cafe feel)
- some of those menu items were limit releases
- our large drink is like your small in size
- the burger and wrap definitely higher quality
Australia doesn’t put Vegemite on anything at macca’s.
I think the "eggs" are slice of an extruded cylinder. They do have value menus. Can't think of anything that vegemite would be used on at maccas.
The McCafes are actually in the McDonald's, but they're different counters. It's basically a little Cafe in a Macca's... And yeah, they're reasonable coffees. I think people mostly like that they're pretty consistent, random cafes can be extremely hit and miss.
