Very nice video. About two years before Alpha Go. I wonder if the computer killer Mr Ishida got a chance at playing Master (AlphaGo) during the 60 game series?
i was thinking that too, especially on the L&D videos; but i was only cringing because i remember all too well what it was like to be in there shoes not too long ago :)
One cool thing about GO players is their calmness. Siren had been ringing out there; the building could be on fire, but beating the bot is the priority xD
She was amazing, but unfortunately the first translator was mostly just spouting his own views instead of translating her... second one was pretty ok, didn't leave out anything too important
Surprised that the pro actually won a single game of Shoni. In chess, 1977 is the date that computer surpassed man. Today, we gobble its moves up without question.
correction about computer chess: the year was 1997 (deep blue with some special hardware). About 7-8 years later with common pc hardware the same strength was achieved.
I thought that the translator for the first game was terrible. He ignored many things that she said and frequently made his own comments confused with hers.
I thought the first translator is actually pretty good. I understood most of her Japanese and his thoughts gave some good meaning to what she was saying. Translating her too literally wouldn't explain things too well.
look at her how she shines when she's talking about go. That's some deep love for the game.
I wish we had a go club like this here in the Annapolis Valley, NS. What a rich, rich resource. I would attend every meeting it I had the opportunity.

thanks for sharing. the second translator is doing a much greater job than the first one.

2017 is calling! alpha go zero is ruling the scene!
Still remeber the god old times? ;)
Thanks for uploading the video Nick!
Thanks for sharing!
Great lecture. Thanks :)
The translator didn't bother me too much, I know some Japanese so I just needed the translation for some less common words.
Thank you for this uploading. I can learn go and english too thank too you
1:07 It's the guy from the beginning of Andrew Jackson's videos.
Start of the second game 1:12:10
Sorry, but on the last game should the 10-15. Black stone be there, i think she showed it in an example, and forgot to remove it?
Is "even game" actually a term that is used in Japanese?

Lol@ 38:20 - This Tennuki is ok. (pro-reading)

i think i'm in love
Yi Sheng Siow same here
First translator didn't do a good job. Left out some parts of her talking untranslated and kept adding his own thoughts and opinions than her own.

+1
I want to marry her
Such a shame that there is so much lost in translation. Literally. Why can't the asian go schools invest a little bit in english education ?? :/
+Saemj Baumgartner Or maybe we should invest a little bit in japanese, chinese or korean education. It's the origin on Go after all.
+Xeldrak Dont think so. How much japanese do you need in everyday life? And how much english?
I played my first round of go two weeks ago. If it becomes a major pasttime I might very well learn japanese just to access their enormous ressources.
+Xeldrak Ha, very nice, welcome to your new favourite addiction :) I tried to learn japanese, but it's really hard. English is so much easier^^
i asked similar, why does my school have a go club? damn lazy american school system
