I never realized how much I appreciated Apollo Creed until Carl Weather died... Now that you mention it, my fav part was always when he tried to jump out of his wheelchair to fight Rocky, while he was in HIS wheelchair.
My oldest brother Mike passed away four years ago at 49 from Alzheimer’s. He lived his life with Down Syndrome and was kind to everyone he met. The Rocky movie series was arguably his favorite, and I have many fond memories of watching these with him. He’ll always be the greatest person I’ll ever know and I miss him tremendously. Just wanted to say thanks Rummy for this awesome tribute to Carl Weathers. You’re channel is top notch and you put your heart into it. RIP Carl and my brother Mike. God bless.
@jasonvoorhees5640 That’s true, even though you can get a just as dangerous fight in wwe if they really want to put the hurt on the opponent. What happens is in boxing you can’t sign off on the floor, if the boxers doesn’t put on the fight for their life the fans will be angry and the lose credibility and get a hard time fighting credible opponents. 12 round war and somebody gets knocked out in the last second makes everybody happy.
From anti-hero, to a villian, to one of the greatest heroes on the screen ever. Carl Weathers created an all-time great character. And we are eternally grateful. RIP, champ.
Dont Stop Here Rummy Might As Well Do The Entire Rocky Franchise Now, I Will Definitely Tune In 👌 Grew Up With This & What Made Me A Fan Of Boxing ! RIP Carl " Apollo " Always Respect & Quality Rummy !
I can’t remember ever being this sad about a celebrity passing. Carl was more than just an actor, he was a huge part of my childhood and I take the lessons from Rocky and creed into my everyday life.
Apollo Creed is the catalyst for the Rocky legend. Without Creed, he would not reach for more, more love, more respect and to go the distance, to have a family and so on.
I learned a lot from those Rocky movies about grit and character, about showing up and showing off (smile). Thanks for a memorable role Mr. Weathers, and thanks Rummy for a nice stroll down memory lane.
This was an amazing tribute to the character Apollo Creed , "The King of Sting," “The Dancing Destroyer," "The Prince of Punch," "The Count of Monte Fisto", "The Master of Disaster." played by the great powerhouse Carl Weathers RIP
Kudos to Rummy for devoting a video to a man who portrayed an all-time great movie character who instilled life & flavor into the Rocky series! Thanks Rum!
Apollo was the most charismatic and hounorable character in the rocky franchise and will stay a love of mine. Carl weathers, the Sun lost some sunlight when you passed.
The fact that you made a breakdown video of the Apollo Creed fights as if they were real life bouts is ridiculously fun & I can't think of a better tribute to the man who brought his A-game to every role. RIP Dillon, Jericho, and the Dancing Destroyer 🙏
I recall the days of Carl Weathers playing with the C.F.L. B.C. Lions early 1970s . He was very charismatic and stand alone confident . When I watched the first Rocky and Apollo Creed it was no surprise .
Thanks Rummy for this great video. In 1979 when i was 13 I went to the cinema to see the movie 1941 but went to the wrong theatre, where Rocky 2 was playing. I never looked back. Weathers was great and brought so much personality and charisma to the part of Apollo. RIP Carl
My mom and dad went to the movies and saw Rocky. They came home, picked me and my brothers up and took us to the movie theater to see Rocky the same day it was so inspiring.
@Rummy's Corner I always thought that "Eye of the Tiger" meant having no fear. In both Rocky 1 and Rocky 2, Apollo was fighting his fears. His first sign of fear appeared once he was sent to the canvas in round #1 of the first fight. The whole rematch stuff including the rematch itself allowed us to see the best version of Apollo, BUT he was still fighting his fears. i mean, instead of listening to his corner before the 30th and final round, he preferred gambling than playing it safe. He wanted to close the show because he feared being ridiculized by the media or at least in his own mind for not getting the stoppage against Rocky, especially after being prepared that perfectly... In Rocky 3, Rocky's fears is what made him lose the first fight vs Clubber Lang. He was not there mentally... In the rematch vs Lang, he was ready for anything mentally. He didn't have any fear and that's EXACTLY what INTIMIDATED Clubber Lang, causing him to do too much and ultimately get gassed while Rocky was recharging, but yeah in the hell of a fight. Any thoughts?
OMG Rummy can I hit the like button 833 more times, This for me was your Greatest Video! You are Not alone Sir. The Same thing happened for me as a child. I saw Rocky III and was hooked. Then I watched Roberto Duran and Marvin Hagler Duke it out and then watched Mike Tyson's Prime Reign supreme for a few years! Carl Weathers RIP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apollo Creed is Legendary and a Hero!!!! Thank YOU so much Rummy!!!!!!!!!
This video is a beauty Rummy thanks mate. God Bless Carl Weathers a brilliant actor who bought such joy to us young lads of the 80s, a life well lived Thank You & RIP
I hope Mr. Weathers is looking down and smiling on how elegant and touching of a tribute u produced. No other actor could have brought the charisma, energy, or depth. Carl Weathers's portrayal of Apollo Creed is the perfect example of bringing a character to life and because of that, Apollo Creed will be forever memorialized as one of the great boxing heroes in the history of cinema.
Great tribute. Rocky 2 was my introduction to boxing in a similar way to you. Even today, the way Apollo fights is the way i secretly believe all boxers should fight. He had a great 1-2. My younger self took years to re-watch Rocky IV after the first viewing because i was so traumatised by Apollo's death. Worse than when Goose died! RIP Apollo. As an aside, glad you mentioned Rocky learning to swim in what must be a week. Classic 80s nonsense that we just accepted because it was the 80s. Good times.
My family and I went to see Rocky III while on summer vacation at the beach when I was about 12. That was summer of '82. I thought it was the greatest film ever. You are right about Carl making that role come to life. He took it beyond the antagonist and into heart and soul of the whole Rocky saga. Great tribute here, Rum.
It always seemed hard to imagine the obsessed Creed from Rocky II giving up after that loss and eschewing another rematch. So I sort of head canon it this way. After Rocky II, Apollo’s doctors and wife convince him that he needs a year off to let his body recover. Apollo concedes to that, but fully expects to pursue “Superfight III” after his 1 year rest. But over that year he feels fulfilled by his other entrepreneurial and philanthropic ventures. The year passes and he decides not to rush into fighting again. He’s NOT “retired,” but Rocky can wait. Creed sort of floats in that bubble of procrastination and contentment for another couple of years until Rocky loses to Clubber Lang. This snaps Creed out of it. If he’s ever going to get back into boxing it’s now or never. He briefly considers challenging Lang, but in his heart that’s not his priority: his unfinished business was with Rocky. His best case scenario would be for Rocky to rematch Lang, retake the title, and THEN Apollo and Rocky could pick up where they left off, with a third fight. But he can see that Rocky is going to need help if he rematches Lang. That’s why Creed steps in and offers his help to Rocky in Rocky III. At the beginning of that partnership I think Apollo still plans to challenge Rocky to a public rematch if they can get rid of Lang, and that this is what Apollo means the first time he says to Rocky, “When this is all over you’ll owe me a favor.” However, as Creed and Rocky become true friends during the training in Rocky III, he doesn’t want to go back to being Rocky’s adversary. So that’s when Creed privately settles on a closed door, unofficial friendly bout as being a good enough way to say goodbye to the gloves. (Almost makes you wish he didn’t put em back on in Rocky IV.)
I just watched "Creed II" with my son. They don't live up to the Rocky films but they are what they are. Thank you for recognizing the Great Carl Weathers! He actually had a small role in Close Encounters of the Third Kind!
In my own made up Rocky universe timeline I like to think Apollo Defeated Ali in early 1973 giving him his first stoppage defeat. Then Fought ( in place of Jose Roman) and defeated George Foreman by KO on September 1st 1973 in Tokyo in what became known as the 'The Tokyo Takedown' to become Heavyweight Champion. By all reports Carl weathers was a great guy as well.
@@nocturne311 They are based on them, but both Ali and Marciano are mentioned in the films at some point. It is now hard to have Apollo winning the championship before 1975 because the third fight beteween Ali and Frazier for the title in 1974 is mentioned in Creed 3. So that does not give much time for Apollo to build up his reputation as an undefeated champion before he fights Rocky.
@@terryf3282I think Carl weather's, may he rest in peace. Is because in the original apolollo from the first film was sort of like a basic Muhammad ali imitation. In the second film weather's made the character his own, and he became something completely different. He was great in the third and fourth films, but in rocky 2 weathers was truly believable as a frustrated, hyper successful fading champion

I had the the Rocky films on VHS as a kid, and wore them out from how many times I watched them. Fell in love with the franchise and been a huge fan ever since. Like Rummy, I too had a soft spot for Rocky III, as it played a huge role in me getting into boxing as well. Weathers was perfect in the role of Apollo Creed, and in my opinion the films don’t become what they did without him and his masterful portrayal. His character taught me several life lessons that stuck with me. RIP champ 🥊❤
It could be mentioned as well that in the movie creed, adonis asked rocky about the secret match they had behind closed doors and who won. Rocky responded that apollo won that night. Now their were no judges obviously so either one of 3 things happened in the secret match. 1. Apollo won the majority of rounds in a shortened match. 2. Rocky actually went down more than apollo. 3. Even if rocky did win he would remain humble and declare he didnt win. All are believable in their own way. Scenario #1 is most believable to me because it was probably a short 6 rounder and rocky is notoriously a slow starter against all the elite fighters he fought. I could see apollo winning that 4-2 or even 5-1. Scenario #2 im sure neither was out for vicious blood but i could easily see apollo needing no motivation other than his pride to put rocky on his backside a couple times. Rocky on the other hand is so nice and respectful of appollo i can see once he goes down is when he gets mad and the intensity ramps up. Scenario #3 rocky is the exact opposite of apollo in that hes pretty humble and could see even if he won that maybe apollo did so well it didnt feel like a true victory. Anyway thats my long-winded thoughts no one asked for lol😂
Wow Rummy Wow. What a lovely tribute. Very very well done. The old King of the Sting will always have a place in the heart of those of us who lived it in the 80's growing up.
Carl Weathers was one of those folks whose name I knew, but I didnt realize how much of a part of my life he was until news broke of his passing. @jasonvoorhees5640 explain yor comment .
Ngannou Fury story looks way similar with this one :)
This is a great comment. These characters: Rocky, Apollo, Tony, Mickey positively influenced a lot of young men.
RIP Carl Weathers, we love you man 😢 👑 🥊
I love that thi video treats Creed as a real boxing champion. Weathers was an inspiration to many!
So good, especially for all of us who love the Rocky series. Amazing!
Carl Weathers did play football prior to acting so he already had that natural athletic aura which lends the character of Creed some authenticity.

I think one of the reasons the film was so good was that Carl Weathers was so believable in the part. he really was a pro athlete.

I remember heated discussions of how Apollo would do against Clubber Lang. Real talk about a fictional character. RIP❤
Apollo’s movement would have been too much for Clubber. Having if said that if Clubber tagged him, it could be a knock out in Clubbers’s favour

Apollo Creed is such a great character because of Carl Weathers. He really embodies the physicality and personality. Legendary performance. RIP.
