Bought three of em, assembled one for myself, the other two as Christmas gifts for my dad and my buddy. As a proud owner of the 25mm version already I am a huge fan of this size. If you ever find yourself in the teeny tiny 9mm blade industry I will definitely be there to subsidize it for ya.
Bought three here as well. Assembled the one for me and will drop some instructions for the other two. I bent the little guys separating them 😅 Don't want the others making that little mistake. No biggie though.
Just assembled mine today! Even my dad was impressed with the design. Still need to do some more finishing work but that can wait. The Olfa blades are quite nice, would love to see a Torx kit for the 18mm knife but I understand that might be a bit of a tall order. Merry Christmas and thank you AvE.
I have the biggin version. It will be gifted to my daughter on her wedding day. It is truly a beautiful work of art. Also it cuts like a hot damn. Olfa blades are 👌🏽
Haha, put mine together yesterday, had ordered the 25 prior and when I opened this one I was a bit stressed that I may be missing parts. Alas it’s just got 2 less. Beautiful little piece of machinery. I will disclose DEWALT blades are working in it well, tis what I had on hand. Thank you sir, gentleman and scholar. Merry holidays to you and yours as well!
got my blades from Amazon today, so i spent some time assembling. turned out pretty cool. I did destroy one of the wife's emery boards sanding some of the manufacturing slag.. I assembled, then took apart and did more sanding and blued up the inner parts. Then reassembled and turned out amazing. have a tinge more cleaning up on the outer edges of the blade guides (manufacturing nipples) Overall a fun project and is very nice! Thank you
Excellente'! This assembly is one of the things I'm looking forward to over the holidays. The box has been taunting me from the workbench for a couple weeks, now!
Merry Christmas though! Not only was it fun to put together, and a pleasure to use, but it will be much joy giving them to a couple of best mates. This'll be the first time I'm able to find something decent to give for Christmas in years.
USPSanta will likely bring mine on monday. I cant wait to play. Have to fix a LED shop light and diesel first. Merry Christmas and thanks for all the fish
I got mine put together last week! I had some issues getting the blade retention plunger to function right. I had to loosen all the screws a couple times to get everything where it wanted to live and act right. I love the knife!
I’m so glad RUclips showed me this vid in my feed! Long time subscriber, but I’ll be honest it’s been a while since I last watched your channel. Good to see you AvE!
Put mine together without the vijeo! Ashamed to admit my wife has been using it for Christmas package opening far more than I have used it for anything. Fortunately I got the real man's 25mm for myself in the shop.
About time yt sent a recommendation from you. Now i guess I've been missing out. Still time to reach out i bet. Seasons greetings and many happy returns of th yeaar to ya. These gens look llike the next excellent knife I'll become sorry to have lost.
I'm a boiler tech up in the mountains of NorCal. This is what i bought myself for christmas, if i can mangage to not lose it it'll be a family heirloom 😂🤟
Appreciate the videos. The knives are great. Looking forward to buying the full sized hammers. Thanks for the high quality tools. You and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I have both cutters 25 and 18mm they are both awesome! Thanks UB for the fire kiss personalization tips. They feel like custom cutters. Merry Christmas!
Oh yeah sure, NOW you post this one. Took me three tries to get mine together after watching the video for the big one. Little bid of fiddling though and it's working like a treat. Got some actual Olfa blades and man they are sharp.
Thanks for the 18mm update. Got mine last we3k. Had to paraphrase the biggin’ instructions so I wouldn’t Richard this up. Don’t have a metric screwdriver but managed just fine. Took me 1.625 beers to complete. McLovin this new cordless design.
I received my pre order and had a lot of fun putting it together and cleaning it up allllll nice.. on company time of course;) although I did receive my copper insert gift and it was for the one inch version… ima thinking this was a aggressive sales tactic to get me to want to order the other size hahaha 👍
Mine is still in the box, along with the og version and the upgrady coppery bits! Working two full times on the weekly days, and helping the parental units on the ends days leaves little time for debauchery.
I made the left-hand mod to mine. Need to get over to my dad's and smooth edges on belt sander. Then I will blue it. Still needs some work to get blade to move smootly. Something to tinker with until I get it how I want. Also just finished turning a couple handles for mini-hammers. Going in dad and brother-in- laws stockings.
My 18mm blade would slide out the back without having to press the retention pin button on the rear basel platten. I flexed the retention lever in just a little, fiddled with the screws (not too tight) and walah! Works great. It locks back in safely now. Love it! I realized it was an (old) 18mm xacto blade and not Olfa--I'll rectify that. I got 25mm new olfas, will now get the 18mm to make everything as smooth as possible. THANK YOU! In the box was a Retina blaster 9000 I didn't order, so if someone says they're missing it, lol.
AvE, after your kind correspondence, i assembled the gift box this morning, just prior to seeing that there is a video. Lol. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Where was this vidjeo like a week and a half ago when I put mine together? But for seriously, loving the knife. I had fun with it and tempered the screws, button, and blade guides varying shades. Looks great and cuts like a hot damn! Truly a slick knife! Only feedback would be, the springamathing on the basal platen not being spring steel, it basically immediately remembers where it gets pushed to and no longer provides retention to keep from drawing the blade too far back by accident when not deliberately trying to pull it out to change the blade. Had the jeezeless blade and button jump out on me when I was first getting used to using it. Contributing factor might could be that I also got the retention pin in backards seein' as I was guessing at it without the guide vidjeo...I"ll double check that. But still the not-springy spring seems an issue.
I had gifted one of your 25mm units to a friend and college of over 25 years. We both recently showed up on a job site 2100 miles away (2200 for Him) several months after the said gifting. He proudly displayed gifted 25mm unit that was assembled incorrectly. Now this gentleman is an Ex US Nuclear Navy, so not your run of the Mill DA. I confiscated his non-functional unit and told him I would reassemble it and return it when completed. Damn good thing Sir "AvE" that you included a couple of spare screws and a blade retention pin...which is likely at the bottom of his Ammo Can Tool box. Now awaiting VFR weather to fly 1:30 (each way...weather dependent) to return His gifted precision made 25mm utility knife. I will be requiring Him to dump the contents of his Ammo Can tool box to recover MY spare retention pin.
I bought the 25mm first, the 3/4 for a friend which should be here in the mail in a day or 2- loved the big 25mm so much I plan to buy the smaller one for myself as well. Lol
Got my sets the other day. Put my 18mm together last night. Is it perfect? Heck NO!! Is it together and working? Yes!! Do I like it? Absolutely!! Sure I could spend a little more time and clean it up more better. But where's the fun in that? Actually, I will probably do that someday and definitely take some better time with the 25mm one. Until then, i've got almost a full set. I 3D printed the 25mm one also. Thanks AvE!! Great product!
Nice effort here. Solid B-. Still not sold. I do like the look of it. The functional design seems like it is almost there, though. Maybe the Rev 8 will be the ticket. Keep iterating!
A device of such desirable design that instantly reminds of a time when people took real care in the design and manufacturing of what is an every day tool. Its by the Rolls Royce of cutting shit up.
Made mine and upgraded the big one to copper a few days ago. Great knives but there’s maybe an issue with the flap of metal that acts as a spring on the blade retention button where it doesn’t go all the way back in once a new blade is installed. Was fine on the first few blades on the big un but now not so much.. But love the knives and thanks for all your content. I started watching all the way back when you did your boltr of the dewalt grinder and enjoyed all your videos since..
As a 10 year sheet metal programmer/operator/individual everyone bothers with questions, I could knock that out in a couple hours, start to finish. Programming a laser, punch press, or waterjet is a hundred times easier than programing a lathe or mill and a million times easier than a robot welder. I know, I can do all of those.
Yup, almost finishing my apprentiship and I'm sitting here thinking this would be no big deal for even me to knock out in a few hours, 1 type of countersunk hole, One threaded hole. The only slight issue I might foresee is the one thin plate, the slim protusion would probably warp a bit if laser cut but even that could be alleviated by putting the tack out at that ends tip. There's barely any chances to mess up, I think it's more an issue of finding a company that's small enough to not have high overheads but still big enough to have anything more precise than a plasma table. Like we do batch runs like this all the time where I work, but 99% of them are from established customers that aren't going away anytime soon.
@akselbering291 last place I worked for did everything from 1 to 10's of thousands, contractor running 3 lasers and 6 brakes, plus welding and some machining. If you order your path correctly, you can mitigate that warping. Bounce back and forth, takes more time, but warps less than if you burn one end to the other, gives it a little time to cool down. Also depends what assist gas you have, Non ferrous materials SHOULD run with nitrogen, which would also help keep the temp down and mitigate warpage.
I got the 18mm. The blade retention button is a nice decoration, blade slides in and out without pressing the button. If I put the knife in my pocket the slide button gets knocked off. Tried loosening it, tightening it - nada. Put a plastic plug in the slide button hole to keep in from falling out for now. I will upgrade to a rubber grommet later. I am using new OLFA blade.
I assembled mine today, very happy with how it went together but I don’t like the sloppiness of the blade inside of the knife handle… aside from that it’s a very nice knife and I still like it. The bigger one has a less sloppy blade guide…
Everything you sells comes from a different place... last thing i bought had blonde hair measurements.. this boxcutter is nice, but you aren't making them? Just asking.... seems like a lot of wasted CNC over the past 8 years if you aren't making the end product. Merry Christmas! Now If TOT was making this on his homemade CNC... I might buy one.
Thanks. Finished mine a few days ago. Flame kissed, and mirror polished! And yes, I did try a junk blade I had lying around 'till the Olfas came in the mail, and it was a different experience. What size are the fasteners? I'm probably looking to make a clip, but I'll need longer screws.
I like mine a lot, but 2 issues (i) Mine is super stiff and (ii) screws seem a little to long ( I can sand flush). Any thoughts on stiffness issue (plenty stiff for the wife for sure) other than using the blade u recommend. It’s got a permanent home on my desk.

Had issues with my retention plunger not stopping the blade. was too wide. Can use the play in the top and bottom rail "spacer" to adjust the fit. can do this by loosening all the screws on one side and use gravity to bias the rail to the inside or outside. For me i had to bias both rails to the inside/center. I was using olfa blades. Works great otherwise. Broke in faster than the 25mm veraion for me
Anyone know what size screws the 25mm takes? I'm guessing these are the same, but at least half of mine have fallen out and I need to order some......and probably use some LocTite this time around!
Wow! Ave almost managed to keep the assembly process in frame.
Made sure all the critical instructions happened just off screen. Bought a made in Japan Olfa, works great. So cheap!
@@Alchemetica I was going to comment that the cinematography of this episode was better than usual.
I came here for the unfocused vayjidios and left disappointed.
Laser cutters and water jet cutters have brought the small batch manufacturing to a whole new level.

You’re a sick man. It’s a beauty, apprentices would never be able to change out the blade let alone assemble proper. Merry Christmas guy

Heeeyyy what timing, mine arrived in the post this morning after a long voyage across the seas. Can't wait to put it together! Happy Christmas to all
Never noticed till now how much Ave's hands look like they were drawn by the late Jack Kirby of Marvel Comics fame.
I’ve had mine for a couple weeks! Thankfully I already built a 25mm so I was able to fake it til I made it
I got the black Olfa blades! 🔥

Thinking I gotta do the same my pin almost prevents the blade from ejecting the button but not quite
I had to losten all the screws and press the plates closer together and tighten. I'm using the black olfa blades.
I had the same issue with Olfa blades, i think I got it sorted with a lot of preload on the lever spring to keep the button up tighter.
Do we get a Christmas story this year?
Yes we do!
Ugh! That's so last year.

For gods sake deburr where the detent slides up and down the knife prior to assembly. My thumb pad was nearly cut stem to stern.

I love my knife. Thanks for making them. But I used a Fiskars blade in mine.
Good blades do make a difference in operation.
Merry Christmas to all us “sinister handed” folks watching. 🤜 😂

For the love of Jezlus - pocket clip? Real simple folder piece of spring metal or as an accessory?
Bought for a gift, but I am keeping this one for myself! Baah Humbug!
Are you planning on making more 25mm ones?
got mine !!! in a bag
What would it take to rework the back plate for an "AvE " logo?
Increases the WOW factor when showing it off.
Broke in faster than the 25mm veraion for me
The Best!
Up next, make the 9mm version.
I still haven't got mine, I ordered it the day of your video I think, did our wonderful postal workers on strike bung this all up?
I love mine. But mine has slight defect. The skinny “shim” with the cutout, blade guide I guess is bent up towards the blade like it has morning wood!
Just got mine, works like a charm. The big knife not so much unfortunately 😢
" Lets get this out on a tray... nice" Steve1989MRE reference, nice.
Anyone know what size screws the 25mm takes? I'm guessing these are the same, but at least half of mine have fallen out and I need to order some......and probably use some LocTite this time around!
