Spags is so good at evolving his defenses throughout a season. At this point it seems repetitive that everyone worries about the Chiefs defense in the beginning of seasons and then by the end, Spags has them playing at a high level.
Philly's defense showed up all year long even in loses besides that Dallas game. If im a betting man, i'd bet on Philly defense to play strong and physical the entire game.
@@haydenvyhanek4672 Well. Let’s get this straight. 1. The QB is not the only thing that is on a offense so that’s out the window. Dallas has the number one offense when Dak got back according to the numbers this season. But it’s not just Dakota. It’s his O-Line, Running Backs, Recievers, His TE. So that’s something right. Let’s not talk about the Vikings as they are trash their offense was pretty good their defense is where they sucked at. But against that offense with not just Kirk Cousins on it. With the best receiver this season JJetas, a good running back in Dalvin Cook, a decent O-Line. We showed up did we not? Okay let’s talk about that Giants game In the playoffs who people said Philly we’re gonna lose to coming off that game against Minnesota. Philadelphia defense showed up against that “Hot Giants offense”. Against the 9ers. Philadelphia Defense showed up and don’t you dare say that Brock was gonna win that game with the pressure we were gonna apply to him all game if he did continue to play. Sure Mahomes is a better QB than all of those guys by far but this just ain’t about what Mahomes can do…Saying Mahomes is gonna beat our defense himself is ridiculous. But hey if you think the Chiefs defense is gonna show up more then Philly than that’s you. I hope the Chiefs defense can keep up with Philly offense because we know Philly damn sure can keep up with the Chiefs offense. The Chiefs surly struggled against Travis Etienne and the Jags who could’ve won that game by the way.
Loved the second part of the video where you explained how the Chiefs can use 2 high safeties without getting run through, LB blitzes and DT 2 gapping. I am a Chargers fan and with the talent that we have on defense it is infuriating how we always get run through and routinely do not make stops when most needed.
I've been watching the Chiefs since 1988, went Marty came to coach them. I have seen a lot of great defenses, and some really bad ones during those years.... I have been watching this year's defense a lot from game 1, and I have been impressed with them all year! Yes, they give up a big play every so often, but damn their crew of rookies in secondary are playing their asses off every game. I'm not a huge stats/ratings guy for defenses. I think sometimes they are over blown, and don't always tell the whole story. The most points they have given up this year was 31 to the Brady & the Bucs. I think folks are looking past this defense. I know Jones is their only true superstar, but there are guys that are on the cusp of being really special i.e. Nick Bolton. GO CHIEFS!
Thanks for the insights. It’s hard not to give up a couple big plays every game. More important how you respond to weak/bad plays. Chiefs D show a lot of character and never say die imo
Andy gives assignments during the year. Each game is a chance to find out their limits. Then in the postseason he unleashes them. This also helps keep them off of tape.
Chris Jones is a big slacker during the regular season. He only tries on third downs and the 4th quarter. In the playoffs, though, he gives a lot more effort
This was well done. Good breakdown of the D the Chiefs are running. This will be a big test for the D line of the Chiefs because PE has a really good O line. Let the game be played! I got the Chiefs winning this SB.
Never like seeing injuries, but McDuffie getting hurt week one allowed Watson and Williams to get more snaps, and now they're bona-fide starters WITH McDuffie. This defense is only going to get better
One of the best breakdowns in sports media. I wonder what analytics were used to determine that the Chiefs have been a top-10 defense in the NFL. They have definitely improved as the season has progressed.
Thank you CC! I used their EPA, or expected points added. It's on the far right at pro football reference www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2022/opp.htm
Your videos are so well made, sowell delivered. NFL plays are complicated, and you break it down with words, replays and added graphics. You're a good coach cuz you're a good teacher.
The rookie secondary guys should get a lot of credit for staying late as a group to focus on catching up to the vets on learning the defense. They worked their asses off. Well, Karlaftis did the same asking vets for advice and staying late as well. Those kids are hungry! Frank Clark has been really effective this year as well.
That one play by McDuffie was filthy. He turns his head to the flat twice which makes Burrow think he can sneak it inside him but he's not covering the flat at all.
I like the eagles thou I'm a giant CHIEFS fan, but I think everyone in the media is giving way more credit to the eagles D, they have been a real good D all season but Patrick and the chiefs ain't a fourth sting QB so the eagles D won't be able to line up to stop the run on every down. Should be a great game between the 2 best teams and a win for the Kelce family no matter how it turns out.
He lost a HUGE step and was afraid to make tackles. He was definitely worried about getting paid that offseason vs giving his all on the field. KC rightfully parted ways. It was obvious because he played much better this year
Say all you want about the defense, they still give up a ton of yards at the wrong times. I am convinced that the Super Bowl will end up being a shoot out if KC wants to win. Hope I am wrong.
To say the Chiefs are devoid of superstar talent on defense, aside from Jones, is an unfortunate choice of words. Bolton has been crushing it since day one. I was devastated when he went out for one week this year. Bolton steps up every single down.
Nah eagles are definitely the biggest test. Burrows a great qb but the Bengals had an awful oline and were down 3 starters. Eagles have a far superior oline than the Bengals and hurts running ability will be a real problem. Chiefs d isn't gonna be able to those coverage sacks nearly as easily and are gonna have to actually blitz instead of just bluffing. Should be a great game tho
@@ryanzimmerman3740 agree to disagree bud. Our top CB went down with a concussion and he'll be back for the Super bowl. So what you're saying is A.j Brown and davante Smith are better than Chase? You're saying they're a better combo than Chase and Higgins? Is Hurts better than Burrow? Nope, they're not! Defense might be better than the Bengals, but it isn't better than the 9ers 🤷
@@frankemann81 AJ and Smith are easily on par with Chase and Higgins, and Goedert is a better 3rd option than Boyd is but that's not the point, what I'm saying is eagles will give hurts much more time in the pocket than the Bengals could, giving more time for recievers to get open and hurts to scramble. Hurts isn't as good of a qb as burrow is but burrows lack of an oline meant that the chiefs didn't need more than a 4 man rush. Chiefs are gonna have to blitz more often if they wanna generate the same amount of pressure. And with hurts ability to run they might need to use qb spys which will take away from the pass rush. Chiefs are gonna have to use a way different gameplan on defense if they wanna slow down the eagles offense
Nick bolton is superstar talent. He has the 2nd most tackles in the league behind warner. Also, Sneed is considered a top corner. Chris Jones is nice, but not the only star like you claimed
They are good and getting better.. Superstar is "in the conversation" for being the best at your position.. When teams change or tweek their scheme to account for a player because he can be so dominating.. having the talent change a game, by themselves is Superstar.. got to be in league for a while.
@CYberry so I guess top 2 player in the league in your position don't mean nothing. Most superstar bring attention to themselves. Bolton doesn't so he dont get credit. Check the stats tho.. SUPERSTAR!!.
“This defense doesn’t have superstar talent other than Chris Jones”. I do believe L’Jarius Sneed would have something to say about that lol. With the improvement of both 1st Round Picks from this Draft in Karlaftis (5.5 sacks in the last 7 Regular Season Games, 3rd in the whole NFL in Batted Down Passes at the LOS) and McDuffie as well as Bolton having the 2nd most Tackles in the NFL those guys are well on their way as well. Far higher base level of talent than most people realize or expect…
When you get the best in the league all together.. then the few the standout from that group are SuperStars.. There is a big difference in really good and SuperStars.. not Pro-Bowls but multi-All Pro..
The chiefs have started the second most rookies, only the Texans started more this season, the rookies will have to continue their trend up just like the young offensive line protecting Mahomes, the chiefs have drafted well
That's not always up to the QB, you have to factor in time on the play clock, and have to make sure you're on the same page as the WR. Usually that's involved in the playcall and not up to the QB
The Chiefs don't look past anybody, but they're still looking ahead. Spags stuck those rookies on some islands and let them take their lumps all year. They might've been better with vets everywhere, at the start, but they stuck with it, and the rookies aren't rookies any more. The last month or two, they've been adding new wrinkles with their now-experienced rookies. I'll be surprised if KC runs much split safety before the 4th quarter.
The chiefs defense isnt great as far as talent but they have the mastermind behind it and the monster that is Chris Jones in the middle. He’s one of the clutchest this league has ever seen. If Jones can make 1 or 2 plays (which he always does) the chiefs will win the SB.
A huge reason the Chiefs defense has been better this year is the new players they have are faster and better at tackling. Are they a top-tier defense? No. But they are a bend-not-break D.
Need a freak DE and a top Mike LB. And eyes open for OL and WR...if this young D gets where I think they will (top 10) then this team is really set for that dynasty...we've all seen we don't NEED the best WRs...but damn someone with even part of JJefferon/Higgins skills and we would be unstoppable...
Bolton is a Mike LB.. They drafted him because he can read defenses fast, he ran MiZZou defense on the field.. Mizzou didn't have the talent as the rest of SEC.. so it was overlooked.
Right now the defense is “just good enough”. In a few years this defense will be SCARY. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl with a very average defense that has the makings of a great defense.
@@jordan9604 I am a Chiefs fan, and I think Nick Bosa absolutely out performed Chris Jones. Jones had a great year but Bosa was unreal this year. Just how disruptive he was this year was ridiculous.
a defense doesn’t need multiple superstars and that doesn’t seem like a smart approach to team-building in an offense driven league. the chiefs defense has one superstar in Chris Jones but enough regular stars and star-level young talent to field a championship level unit. they showed the same thing in 2019 and i like this defense even better than that one.
I’ve seen a lot of hate on Spags scheme., me being one of them especially during the regular season. Don’t get me wrong, dude tries to pressure the QB more often than not and having our rookie CBs try and defend top league WRs. It’s always infuriated me that defense wise he plays soft yet at the end of the season is when the brakes get cut off and we see Spags for who he is. Honestly, I’m done with the Spags hate. These rookies held a bengals offense with arguably two 1WRs with just over 200yds of offense. Impressive. Plus two picks. Chiefs secondary is only going to get more dangerous as the years progress.
World Premiere: February 12, 2023 The Chronicles of Reddick "Outlaw vagabond Reddick after being passed from team to team, is back with a vengeance to take down the Chiefmonger Dynasty and Lord Mahonnes. Only 1 can walk away with the ring and there will be blood but good thing it's Hurts SZN"
I think Spags is going to have to get creative or else the Eagles O will run them over. Eagles have the best O line in football, a mobile QB with a strong arm, 2 top deep ball threats, and 3 good RB options (with an O line that is as good at run blocking as it is in pass protection). I don't think the Chiefs can count on getting coverage sacks, because the O line is that good and Jalen will have more room to scramble with 2 deep safeties. The Chiefs are also weak against the run, and the Eagles are great running team with one of the best running O lines in football. They beat the Giants by running all over them for 268 rushing yards. If the Chiefs cheat in to play the run or spy Jalen, they are vulnerable deep with Brown and Smith. And blitzing is risky, too. The O line is really good and just needs to buy enough time for Jalen to dump it off Goaddard, Brown, or an RB. I think it's a tough match up for the Chiefs' defensive scheme. The Chiefs have really good coaching, and I think they'll come up with something to prevent the Eagles from embarrassing them, but it'll still be difficult to out-scheme the tough match up.
unfortunately mahomes fan group will never mention anything about KC's defense; they're played overall good this season. It comes down to how you wanna argue NFL defenses these days too. Do you appreciate them keeping teams under 30 points or do you prefer them keep opponents to 3-20 points around there and no more than that? Some defenses give up hella yards but are great against points allowed, that's kind of like New England's defense. Bend but don't break.
You will never blow out KC. Spags plays a shell defense, and KC's offense is always going to find a way to score. Blowouts only happen when an offense is struggling. Edit: I don't literally mean never. It's just very rare. The superbowl vs the Bucs is a great example of what I mean though. KC's offense failed to do anything, and their defense was outmatched. Blowout happened as a result.
Don't tell this to Joe burrow fans... Bengal's defense actually keeps elite offenses to 20 most of the times... And when not... They keep it to less than 24... I don't think they have ever given up over 23 in playoffs in Joe burrow era. While Bengal's offense averages 22 points and have never scored over 27 in playoffs. For context, chiefs offense averages 33 in playoffs under mahomes. Averages. And have scored as high as 51.
Chiefs are the best coached team in the NFL since Spags joined Reid, who's the best OC of the past two decades. Chiefs limited talent in their back seven, but like the Bengals, but play with great variation, communication and understanding due to superior coaching. Chiefs are great in the trenches, just like the Eagles, which is the real reason both teams are here, not their skill players. Mahomes being a star results in underserved praise to him for all Chiefs success, when really he's a role player who has a few key scrambles and throws on the run a game. Hurts is a good young QB developing well, but again, vastly overhyped due to team success that is far more about a great #1 receiver and the best DL/OL. This year's SB is a real testament to top to bottom team building, not stars. Well, maybe except Kelce. He's ability to be uncoverable over middle after 3 seconds without fail is the safety valve that keeps the Chiefs offense rolling when otherwise it's pretty average. If the Eagles do a good job on Kelce, they win, if they don't they lose unless they get heroics from Brown/Hurts.

Or how Fred Warner is his own tier as a coverage MLB who can trail TEs and even some WRs (whereas WRs would LOVE the LB matchup in that scenario) and can also play the run.
Spags is so good at evolving his defenses throughout a season.
At this point it seems repetitive that everyone worries about the Chiefs defense in the beginning of seasons and then by the end, Spags has them playing at a high level.
It does... he is so good in the post season.
People forget that he's beaten Brady in the super bowl. Twice, IIRC.
Let’s see which defense shows up, I think that’ll be the deciding factor
Philly's defense showed up all year long even in loses besides that Dallas game. If im a betting man, i'd bet on Philly defense to play strong and physical the entire game.
@@jaywood1698 why I agree their defense has been more consistent the best QB they have played is either Kirk Or Dak
Thanks Luiz. Yes, that's probably an episode for the offseason.. all the talent y'all acquired was supposed to fix everything..
GO CHIEFS!
Also a fan since 88... but when DT 58 got drafted in 89, he solidified my Chiefs loyalty!!
Thanks for the insights. It’s hard not to give up a couple big plays every game. More important how you respond to weak/bad plays. Chiefs D show a lot of character and never say die imo
I’m convinced the chiefs defense just doesn’t try in the regular season then turn into gods in the playoffs
Ppl slept on em. Been good all season
We know this to be the case with Frank Clark, he said as much.
@@faveology he was top 5 in sacks and he plays dt😂 he didn’t have a playoff sack till last game. you have it backwards
Spags D is usually outstanding in the playoffs. I got KC fairly easy in this game. 30-21
If frank clark was playing up to his potential he could be another superstar on that line
Many of chiefs fans consider Bret beach the best at picking up rookie talent
This was well done. Good breakdown of the D the Chiefs are running. This will be a big test for the D line of the Chiefs because PE has a really good O line. Let the game be played! I got the Chiefs winning this SB.
Thanks Red Royce! I got the Chiefs winning in a slightly lower scoring game than people think, 24-20
How bout those Chiefs!
Miss Tyreek. Such a great player.
I bet he misses the Chiefs now...
Hill leaving is what helped the Chiefs add so much young talent, it was a great move by the front office.
It's all about peaking at the right time. Let's go CHIEFS!
No one ever mentions the 4 starting Rookie studs on defense, that held it down all season!!
It's on the far right at pro football reference

Take care
Your videos are so well made, sowell delivered. NFL plays are complicated, and you break it down with words, replays and added graphics. You're a good coach cuz you're a good teacher.
Thank you Robert, that means a lot!
The rookie secondary guys should get a lot of credit for staying late as a group to focus on catching up to the vets on learning the defense. They worked their asses off. Well, Karlaftis did the same asking vets for advice and staying late as well. Those kids are hungry! Frank Clark has been really effective this year as well.
wasn’t exactly high on their defence but boy they did great against the bengals
Sneaky sneaky spaggioliolo
Alex Drop and its a good day❗️
Sneed will be seen as a superstar one day. Mark my words, Alex Rollins!
✍
That one play by McDuffie was filthy. He turns his head to the flat twice which makes Burrow think he can sneak it inside him but he's not covering the flat at all.
Definitely, I think he's also seeing that receiver go outside, so he knows to sink back into his zone
I believe this defense got so much faster which we needed long time ago
Appreciate this
Jones is definitely the star of that D line, but don’t go to sleep on Karlaftis. He is coming into his own at just the right time of year.
Awesome thanks. Neat run down.
We played mid defense in the regular season but soon a playoff hit we play like a top 5 defense for some reason
Y’all played the jags and bengals O line 💀
@@feetonland6609 the same bengals oline they protected burrow in the bills games

On my page Eagles are winning Big Game Anthem hits, I know KC fans are not going out like this.
It's a defense that thrives on pressure. When the D-Line gets rolling like it did against Cincy it's a different unit.
I don’t think they can slow down the run wit 2 high safety vs the eagles but it will be fun to watch i fasho hope they will tho
That's the biggest question of the game, and I think it will be answered quickly
Really great analysis!!! I don’t think the common fan Is educated on the play calling especially the defense! Thank you!
I appreciate that JDK!
Seems like Spags is more of a spot drop guy. Seems most of the old school DC's are. Fangio seems to be the most heavy match coverage guy.
Let's Go Chiefs! Thanks Alex!
I got you my guy!
The last 20 seconds of that video makes me want to run through a wall..
All I want is a good super bowl idc who wins I want to see a shootout
I think it's going to be a good one Ed! Mahomes vs the Eagles depth
Nobody also talked about the loss of honey badger who was a big staple on this team I know he definitely lost a step some what
He lost a HUGE step and was afraid to make tackles. He was definitely worried about getting paid that offseason vs giving his all on the field. KC rightfully parted ways. It was obvious because he played much better this year
Im just happy Sorenson is gone tbh. He was great once in a blue moon and then seemed to get beat constantly on big plays
Need a video on how this chiefs defense could stop a rushing oriented offense
Yoooo frank clark a superstar ! Don’t sleep on him
He hasn't picked up more than 6 sacks in the last 3 years
Spags defense was move around move around cover 2…. Move around move around cover 2 invert… Move around move around cover 2 with another twist
I'm definitely worried about the chiefs in the RPO against eagles. We haven't been good at run defense at all.
nick bolton is extremely underrated
broke the franchise record for tackles and he didn’t even get 2nd team all pro😂 he’s criminally underrated
Big facts
Say all you want about the defense, they still give up a ton of yards at the wrong times. I am convinced that the Super Bowl will end up being a shoot out if KC wants to win. Hope I am wrong.
Just imagine that the narritive for the better part of about 45% of the season people were saying the Chiefs were doomed with Tyreek.
To say the Chiefs are devoid of superstar talent on defense, aside from Jones, is an unfortunate choice of words. Bolton has been crushing it since day one. I was devastated when he went out for one week this year. Bolton steps up every single down.
LETS GO CHIEFS!
Biggest test of the year? Na that was Cincy for sure. People are underestimating this team and they have all year. Should be a great game!!!!
I don't think Bolton is a superstar, he's great, but he's not in that tier. Same with Sneed.
Agreed!
We are talking superstars. None of them qualify simple as that
When you get the best in the league all together.. then the few the standout from that group are SuperStars.. There is a big difference in really good and SuperStars.. not Pro-Bowls but multi-All Pro..
The chiefs have started the second most rookies, only the Texans started more this season, the rookies will have to continue their trend up just like the young offensive line protecting Mahomes, the chiefs have drafted well
#HBTC glad you're doing a video on the chiefs and not pat or trav... we have other people playing media 🙄
Great analysis as always
Thank you Unknown
Well well done!
Thank you
Looks like someone was studying Vic Fangio’s defense lol
Why wasn't Burrow motioning pre-snap to find out what they were doing? Is he just not a good enough quarterback?
That's not always up to the QB, you have to factor in time on the play clock, and have to make sure you're on the same page as the WR. Usually that's involved in the playcall and not up to the QB
It Always Turns Up for the Playoffs
the rams need to run this defense 😔
The Chiefs don't look past anybody, but they're still looking ahead. Spags stuck those rookies on some islands and let them take their lumps all year. They might've been better with vets everywhere, at the start, but they stuck with it, and the rookies aren't rookies any more. The last month or two, they've been adding new wrinkles with their now-experienced rookies.
I'll be surprised if KC runs much split safety before the 4th quarter.
Great breakdown.. hella video
Thanks Bob
People having the Eagles winning by a billion might have to rethink their decision
How Nick Bolton did not make the Pro Bowl is mind boggling 🤔

@@cyberry3297 Yes I misspoke, we could use one more IF Leo doesn't work out. Gay and Bolton should be here for a long time if we can afford them!
The last thing the NFL needs is an unstoppable Chiefs offense (it already is) and and dominant defense.
If the chiefs end up being without most of their recievers there d is gonna need to step up BIG TIME
Right now the defense is “just good enough”. In a few years this defense will be SCARY. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl with a very average defense that has the makings of a great defense.
Another banger 💪
Thank you my guy! I think the Chiefs defense has just enough to pull this one out
And they sure did win the super bowl
Great breakdown! I hope Jones wins DPOY
He won’t but it would be cool
Nick Bosa was too good this year.
@Devin Gilliam I don't think he out performed Jones in their respective roles.
@@jordan9604 I am a Chiefs fan, and I think Nick Bosa absolutely out performed Chris Jones. Jones had a great year but Bosa was unreal this year. Just how disruptive he was this year was ridiculous.
Thanks Santiago, one of my favorite players
a defense doesn’t need multiple superstars and that doesn’t seem like a smart approach to team-building in an offense driven league. the chiefs defense has one superstar in Chris Jones but enough regular stars and star-level young talent to field a championship level unit. they showed the same thing in 2019 and i like this defense even better than that one.
Tyran matthieu was on the 2019 defense…
SPAGS is the secretary of defense...... GO CHIEFS
The middle of their D is susceptible to big plays I expect the eagles to take advantage of it

It's not easy to beat off a guard sitting right in your face, that's for sure.
Giant Pause

3 sacks for Chris Jones today!!! Go Chiefs!! 🙏🏼
Chiefs 33
Eagles 17
All part of the plan
unfortunately mahomes fan group will never mention anything about KC's defense; they're played overall good this season.
Stop worrying about what Mahomes fans think, Patrick constantly gives credit to the defense when they deserve it
You will never blow out KC.
@@kitkat6782 if you think I'm worried about mahomes fans, you're just proving my point.
@@PeanutButterAndJellyBros yeah ok 💀💀
