- In the port of Southampton on the 16th Sept 2018 there were four cruise ships that arrived early morning and are now ready and waiting to depart again from their various cruise terminals. The ships were the "Navigator of The Seas", "Queen Mary 2", "Aurora" & finally "Britannia" also the historic steamship "Shieldhall" played her part in the departures of all four cruise ships.
The very first departure from the City Cruise Terminal was the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship "Navigator of The Seas" she was slightly obscured by the tall masts from yachts etc moored near to Mayflower Park as Southampton hosts the 2018 Boat Show. The "Navigator of The Seas" departed at about 16:27pm for a two week Italian Mediterranean Cruise, her first port call on this cruise is Gibraltar.
Second ship to make her departure was Cunard's Translantic Ocean Liner "Queen Mary 2" from the QEII Cruise Terminal at about 17:18pm she is off to New York and back.
Next to depart was the P&O Cruises Ship "Aurora" from the Mayflower Cruise Terminal at about 17:34pm for a 24 Night Cruise to USA and Canada her first port of call on this cruise is New York.
Last of all was the P&O Cruises Ship "Britannia" from the Ocean Cruise Terminal her departure was slightly delayed by about half an hour and she sailed at about 18:28pm as she made her way from the terminal the Steamship Shieldhall and herself gave a good show of having a right good horn battle between themselves. The "Britannia" is away for a 14 Night Cruise to Monaco and Italy her first port of call on this cruise is Cadiz in Spain.
17:21 So proud to be British. A ship called Britannia with British flags on it and 5 star luxury. One of the most British things ever.
yes I agree but only Britannia is registered in Southampton, and I think all the P&O cruise ships should have been registered here not Hamilton after as you said they are very British even the company is still part British and it did start life as British
why do ships in port have horn battles is it to see who has the loudest or best sounding horns ?
In general they are just acknowledging each other as they leave port by sounding their horns which makes great listening.
Well easy to see who won that battle and she didnt leave!
Queen mary 2 is a ocean liner
This has been the second Sunday in which "Waverley" hasn't sailed. Any idea why?
she was out and about earlier on the 16th Dan from Porstmouth round the Island I think.
She was meant to leave at 9am and return at 9pm on the 16th. I kept checking Marine Traffic and she hasn't moved since the 15th. She didn't do her planned trip the previous Sunday either.
I ain't got a clue whats wrong with her, I just looked in the VTS Schedule she isn't even listed as making any departure yet.
She is due to do a Cruise round the Isle of Wight from Swanage on the 18th.
