I didn't even grow up with Green Hill (my first Sonic game was either Sonic Rush or '06, I'm not sure, but I played Sonic 1 at a later date) and I was getting teary eyed when I saw this in theaters. I think its the composition of the piece that gets me on this one more than the other renditions of GHZ. It comes out of nowhere at the end of the movie and hits you hard. You can tell Jon Batiste has an attachment to this song and it brings out the feels much better because of that.
I love how comfortable and easygoing he is while playing. His confidence, mixed with his genuine love for his music sucks you right into a special place.
@@mr_rgp ok but like you do know that it takes time to write, film, and finalize a movie though, ofcourse if he did it for the movie it wouldve been made before the movie was recorded
Mr_RGP he couldve just been saving it, or maybe he was under contract to say nothing about the film, but I am almost certain that this was composed for the film
I almost cried in a theatre when this music started playing. This was such a good movie, whatching my favourite character and his adventure, I felt like a child again
You can see that instant time travel moment on Jon's face when he started...then he smiled when he remembered his Mama saying turn off that Gaaaaame Jon.
My 72 year old mother, who knew I liked Jon's music, bought his CD with me in mind, and was playing it in the background to our delight, then this came on, and I, being 35 and having this ingrained in my memory as a child, flipped out, there are very few things that bring me back like that did, honestly you couldn't have picked a better song to resonate with my generation. Even my mom recognized it from when I would play sonic for hours, it brought us all back, love this.

Just enjoy every moment of your life. You could be in the middle a time you will one day be nostalgic for, so don’t take the present for granted. I say this as somebody who’s spent a lot of time reminiscing about the past. Eventually it’s just better to make the best of the present, something we can still change and be in :)
I AM SPEECHLESS 😮 like its so beautiful 😭 i don't understand why they never used this theme for it's end cridits for the frost movie 😢. Overall still would have wished for this to be it.
Interestingly, this was one of the first songs that Jon Batiste ever learnt to play on a piano as a child.

From my understanding Jon got permision to make the cover. They then contacted him and said they wanted to use the cover in the movie.

Jon played a couple versions of Guile's Theme during this show. It was pretty sweet.
