He’s Poseidon, he IS the ocean personified, the entire ocean is his boss arena 😁 Imagine how cool something like God of War could have been, if the gods were actually mythologically accurate to their powers according to the ancient Greeks! Love that franchise, but no shot Kratos beats the mythically accurate Greek Pantheon, they are metaphors and concepts made into living creatures, with all the powers of their namesakes. Imagine trying to stab the ocean to death, or trying to overcome the concept of storms, rulers, and lightning, or trying to break the momentum of a war between two massive nations single-handedly. That would be what challenging a mythically accurate Poseidon, Zeus, and Ares would be like, respectively.
The big 3 are not the embodiments of concepts. Those would be the primordial deities. Remember, they had to cast lots to see what parts of the world they would each have dominion over.
I think something that is missed in this song is that Poseidon doesn’t hate Odysseus for hurting his son, he hates him for showing mercy, something that Poseidon just can’t do. He is trying to break Odysseus which is why he gave him that chance to apologize(to pass the blame to show that he is just a mortal, to be ruthless) Odysseus doesn’t, and thus just pisses the god off more.
Well in the novel it states this as well. He uses his son’s incident as an excuse to inflict torture and pain on Odysseus. What started it I believe was how Odysseus refused to pay homage to the Gods for their victory against Troy. That’s what really pissed Posiden off
@rayewonderland ahhhh this made my brain resonate with "or does he keep us in check so we must respect him/and now no one dares to piss him off" I already knew the answer to Ody's "question" here was "yes", but you're so right, and I just caught that this could nod towards exactly what you're saying
I don't know if apologizing is being ruthless; I think Poseidon may have been mocking Ody, since following Ody's non-apology is "the line between naiievie and hopefulness is almost invisible", almost like Poseidon went "damn dude, you really thought I'd forgive you after I just told you that you should have unlifed my son? Lmao jokes on you, Ody 🔱" either way, what a flex
The fact that I've seen several animatics to this song but my jaw STILL dropped at the horrific destruction of the fleet and that following hollow silence. I hope every artist that has made stuff for EPIC gets really good animation jobs that give y'all lots of money and recognition for your talents because WOW, the way you made this fandom come to life!
I love how Poseidon at 1:50 could have killed ody but he lets him live and in turn allowing ody to escape, ironically on the "you totally could have avoided all this had you just killed my son" line, amazing animatic deserves all the attention
Man you really nailed the scale of the ocean with this, and the way Poseidon is kindof picking off ships to be a dick at first before he delivers the final blow in such a unique and terrifying way. Incredible work
The shot where he’s just leaning against the pole on the ship the absolute monstrous wave denoting the raw power of the seas is just… prefect *chefs kiss* bravo!
In this version, it feels more casual in a way? Like Poseidon knows he has all the power rn, and he’s just toying with them. Which is a different type of scary, when you can that you’re enemy your isn’t even showing you a tenth of their power. Ughh, it’s so good, great job!! I love him forming and reforming!
Agreed!!! And when he's finally done he just in ONE swoop picks all of them up and drags them into the water. No possible escape once he made his decision for them
I love the ways Poseidon controlled the water and attacked Odysseus with it! The wall of water goes well with the water sounds in the background. This was incredible!
2:09 can we talk about how good this scene was? Despite now facing the wrath of THE Sea God, the crew still did their best to help their captain. Which makes it more heartbreaking when Poseidon killed entire fleet, expect Odysseus main ship with only 43 left.
I love this depiction of Poseidon. His expressions and mannerisms give off the vibe of a petty teenager whose pride was wounded. It’s very dramatic and theatrical, I love it.
I love how in almost every animatic posidon PHYSICALLY messes with ody, knowing that he can fully kill ody at any moment but choosing to mess with him.
This is probably the best Ruthlessness animatic I've seen so far- I really love how he progressively killed them, starting with a few ships, then giving Ody a chance to explain himself, but when he turns his trident and Odysseus thinks he's letting them live, he actually sinks the rest of the fleet. And Poseidon's design itself is incredible, especially when he blends in with the waves and sometimes is giant versus a normal human size, and that he's such a drama queen that he creates a whole arena just for that. I really hope Jay sees this, it's incredible!!!
Thank you so much!! 🎉 I enjoyed planning the storyboard to give that tension, so I'm super happy you enjoyed watching it! And yes, it'd be very awesome if Jay did see this, haha!
You know, the thing I like most about this animatic is that at moments it doesn’t quite feel like Poseidon is truly angry, merely that Odysseus forced him into doing this by his actions and therefore he must go through, sort of like Odysseus says in monster.
I'm glad you liked that!! I tried to keep his face a little poker-like near that part to the end, to leave it up to interpretation on how Poseidon truly felt, similar to how the song felt to me.
1:32 I am IN LOVE with that "'cuz you're not even great" part! The way Poseidon's looming over harder and harder until he melts and soaks Odysseus. This actually might just be my new favourite Ruthlessness. And that shot of giant Poseidon with the even more massive wall of water surrounding the tiny ships... god you captured so much PERFECTLY of this.
Love the frame at 0:53 where we're behind Poseidon looking down on the ships. We get to see how tiny they are instead of just looking up and seeing how big Poseidon is. The perspective instantly reminded of sitting in a bathtub looking down on the toys floating around and how easy it is to manipulate them, which is pretty fitting I think.
Thank you for liking that frame! 🌊⛵ That analogy is spot on - I wanted those types of frames to establish the scale, both in size and power, scattered regularly throughout, so we didn't lose that perspective.
I have seen a ton of Animatics for this song and every one has been a amazing interpretation of Poseidon and the carnage that is truly being conveyed here, But this is the closest to what I personally imagined what hearing it for the first time. The typhoons were truly an amazing detail and horrifying to imagine, i also love how not all of the ships are immediately wrapped up in a typhoon but rather a few get forcibly swept into it which I think would be almost scarier. Genuinely incredible work, please keep this up absolutely 10/10
Thank you thank you!! 🎉 Very happy you enjoyed it too, and that parts were similar to how you envisioned it too! I had this urge to get my vision out of my head so out this came, haha
This might be my new favorite Ruthlessness animatic. I loved the wall of water. Really nice perspective work on that one! And the expressions convey the emotions so well. Absolutely FANTASTIC job - I'm so happy to see you've finished it!
I agree! The different shots in this were so well done and really conveyed just how powerful Poseidon is. There really was no chance for escape until after Poseidon attacked.
Okay I **love** the high waves making a wall, but honestly the waterspouts being how the rest of the fleet gets destroyed!?!? INSPIRED. A beautiful way to bring that chaos up and in his face instead of at a great distance or down below. EVERYWHERE he looks has the bodies of his ships and crew. Beautiful design element!
Eeey - Thank you so much for enjoying that design choice!! 🌊🌊🌊 I very much wanted to push a complete sense of helplessness on poor Odysseus at that moment, and putting him in the front row seat to an inescapable spectacle was the end result. 🥲
Absolutely agree that your take on the 'apology' scene is cinematic as chuff, but I'm just happy you fixed a huge issue with the "all I gotta do is open this bag" line. That comes off so weirdly cheery with how it's sung, and so many animatics try to match that energy. You at least had him look appropriately weary, given the dozens of his men he just watched die.
Thank you so much!! 🎉 That part was indeed tough to decide what to draw - I struggled with deciding what expression to use to make it feel cohesive with what happened before, haha. But I'm glad you liked how it turned out!
Aaaaaaa the teardrop forming ripples that spread to Poseidon's reflection on, "When does a ripple become a tidal wave," gave me CHILLS, this is so good!
I don't know if it's just me but the silence after the massacre in this animatic feels longer than the one in the song. As a result, the loneliness hits harder.
Interesting! I actually didn't change anything about the song, beside tacking on the ending of "Keep Your Friends Close" at the beginning. I'm glad you felt an impact at that moment though- That part also hit me really hard the first time I heard it, so I tried to translate that feeling into the animatic.
i love the face he makes 'thats what i hate" he looks more annoyed than anything, like odysseus is so beneath him he doesnt even get hate, just mild annoyance at having to come and deal with him.
ugh, i love how you made poisdeon look so inhumane in this animatic - the way he shifted and moved so fluidly around, really represented the unpredictable nature of the ocean
Just- WOAH 😨 that was amazing!! I remember watching part 1 and loving the water becoming the shark(fin) and then turning into Poseidon *and* the waves responding to his every move. And now that the whole thing is here- 😮 that was amazing- Incredible! --- Some things I loved about this: (SPOILER WARNING) - Poseidon constantly morphing with the water thought all of the animatic. He's everywhere, that terrifying. I already said that, but it blows me away every time I re-watch this. - the shark consisting of actual water !! They're swimming with the shark, that is the ocean (that is Poseidon), they are in danger. 😅 - that one scene at 1:30 when Poseidon over leans over Odysseus, disappears and then reappears through the water. God the timing is brilliant there. - the way the ocean split apart, help that's terrifying. I don't even have a fear of the ocean *but that would be horrifying.* - the differences in Poseidon's height/size: the way he's all big and intimidating and terrifying at the beginning and then switches it up to slightly bigger than Odysseus and his crew when he gives him an "out" in the form of an apology. Yet he's still towering over them (he's still in power here). - Poseidon pointing his trident at Odysseus while waiting for an apology, and when he didn't get one he simply pointed it at his crew and said "you had one job, you blew it. Now watch them pay the price for it." - Odysseus' face as he realizes what's about to happen right before Poseidon kil|s his men (when the trident is pointed at the other ships). - that same scene still ‼️ if I was hearing this song for the first time and seeing these visuals, I would've thought Poseidon would've let him go when he moved his trident away, too. And then be just as confused and horrified when he pointed it at the crew instead and said "di€" - 3:16 this establishing shot >:000 everyone's getting slaughtered and that one ship is clearly shown to be unharmed as they're forced to watch. - the way even the teardrop becomes a ripple that then shows Poseidon in the reflection as if to answer the question. (_"when does a ripple become a tidal wave?"_) - 3:45 the subtile movement of the pupils ahhhh - And lastly that ending 😮 Insane. You should be proud, this is amazing.
Oh WOW 🤯 - I was not expecting this long of a comment, haha! AAAA- Thank you so much for writing all that out!!! Super happy you caught and liked so many of these moments, big and small! I very much enjoyed planning out the compositions in this animatic, so I really appreciate you and everyone else enjoying them too!
Great video! I love how Poseidon kept turning into waves and crashing into Odysseus' party. It felt like he wasn't just a god in human form but the very force of nature itself! Probably my favorite depiction of Poseidon so far! Also the use of Odysseus finding the bag of wind as a means of foreshadowing was great! He had it, but couldn't use it right away because of the wall of water preventing the ship from leaving. Then opening it when Poseidon drops all the water barriers, thinking he's already won.
I am obsessed with this Poseidon design oh my GODDDDD I love how he is gigantic and almost mocking with his gestures rather than just pure rage. And oh my god the scene where the crew members’ hands reach out from the whirlpool is so chilling
I really, REALLY like this poseidon. The way he's one with the ocean is amazing. I especially like the bit where he's towering over Odysseus, poking him with his finger, and then his form collapses into a wave. So good.
Ani flamma used to be my favorite Ruthlessness but this is def in the running for my favorite like omg you made it so freakin TERRIFYING and i honestly done know what to say there is too much to love about it!
Thank you! Ani flamma's Ruthlessness animatic was THE first Ruthlessness animatic that I saw and inspired me so much as I was diving into this fandom! So many cool creators! And YAY, glad you enjoyed it!
I LOVE Poseidon dragging Odysseous into the water at 1:48. How he has complete control and throws him out, only for his crew to catch him: amazing and terrifying! It's also when he grabs the bag which so many others forget/ don't utilize until the last minute. You add it there but he can't use it right away due to the walls of water surrounding him! It's SO good!
One of the best animatics in how it handles Posiedon being the sea and having total control of it. If one day epic gets animated, one can only hope that the animator team is at least as inspired and dedicated as the fans.
I AM SPEECHLESS the waves, the fluidity, the sheer danger poseidon embodies as they are truly helpless in every sense THE WALL OF WATER CAGING THEM IN POSEIDON TOYING WITH THEM THEN JUST KILLING THEM WITH THOSE PILLARS DEVASTATING (i love how u drew the waves so much) JUST OMG THIS IS SO GOOD
Being turned into mincemeat in a murderous water blender its really fucking scary I love it You achieve a nice sense of awe showing the humongous walls of water and Poseidon's figure standing out with his trident
Yeah, this is insane actually. The way you drew the MOTION of the water, the sheer scale of the ocean. The way everything moves, the twisting of each column that feels like it’s cracking the sea open. The way he gathers up the motion of the bubbles around Odysseus and traps him in a sphere of water, then pushes it with his fingers to shoot up into the air and make him look at the scale of it all. What the hell. And the destruction of the fleet leading to just… a calm sea, covered in debris. There’s so much here that’s good that it’s impossible to list. You deserve so much more attention.
Thank you so much for watching and liking!! 🌊🌊🌊 I feel like more than half of drawing this animatic was spent on drawing waves, haha - so I'm glad you enjoyed them! XD
I love your depiction of poseidon annihilating the crew, but the cuts to odysseus throughout are the best part. Sometimes spectacle can make us forget that the largest impact mainly reaches us through how the character feels about it. It's great you chose to include him in that very moment. Considering it also removes some of the burden of animating more action frames, you have truly found a less is more solution. Bravo, I hope you have an interest in depicting more of EPIC.
Thank you so much!! 🙌Go glad you brought this up! I very much wanted to splice in Ody's expression for that reason - to escalate the spectacle in a grounded way. I originally wanted to cut to Ody's expression on each "Captain", but then thought it fit better sync'd to whenever the crew was shown, since they were the ones doing the calling. Looking forward to doing more Epic songs!
@Tamathetamago I also appreciate the expression of odysseus towards the end when he opens the bag. Generally, that's my least enjoyed portion of the song solely because of the tone of odysseus's voice. It feels like it lacks remorse, which takes away from the impact of poseidons' actions, and also makes odysseus feel cruel. I get Jorge wanted to include aeolus's theme, but this doesn't achieve whiplash. It is a negation of everything involved. However, I can tell you attempted to solve it with his expression. It shows a deep pain beneath the front of confidence that I really wish his voice also hinted at. If jorge really wants to keep in the aeolus theme, he could also try making it a moment of fury. I imagine that would blend better with the pace of the theme. However, that might clash with the character, as odysseus seems to respond with pain and rumination whenever he loses control. I think out of everything completed, this is what i want changed the most. It would really elevate the song's standing for me personally.
@@AudibleApathy Thanks for calling that bit out! That part you're talking about was definitely a hard one to figure out when I was planning, haha. I also felt the way it was sang did feel insensitive, especially after I had crafted whole scenes of Poseidon-destruction. I eventually decided to lean into the idea that Ody might be so in shock/trauma that certain emotions just come out unintentionally insensitive and fuller of bravado, like he has no control over them -- Maybe like the nervous laughter after something bad happens, or when people accidentally laugh at inappropriate times. Expression-wise, I knew I didn't want him to smile at this moment, as it felt like a hollow victory, if he even thought of it as a "victory" - This was just him trying to escape and survive with the guilt, so I went with the pained expression that you see.
A tiny detail I appreciate is how much he looks like he's taken directly from his depictions on pottery and statuary around him from the time period! Very nice!
1:32 Oh I LOVE how Poseidon leans over Odysseus there! It's a perfect threatening gesture to go with Poseidon reminding Odysseus that he's dealing with a literal god at this point! And Poseidon turning into water and just shifting where he is - this is so frigging good! 2:07 And Odysseus's men catching him! The details in this are incredible! But dear lord, the sassy leaning at 2:32 👏 I live for that frame And I ADORE how you depicted Poseidon's final destruction of the ships, it is so perfectly animated!
Omg this is perfect. I love the way Poseidon is toying with Odysseus. Especially when he tried to drown him! AND THE WAY THEY STILL TRIED TO HELP HIM DESPITE POSEIDON BEING SCARY AS SHT 2:08 AWWWW (TOO BAD THEY'RE GONE 😭) AND THE WHIRLPHOOL SCENE?!?! IT'S SO DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHERS AHH LOVE ITT
The trident slowly pointing away from him to his fleet was such a great touch 🔱 Also love how the waves are so ridiculously high and literally formed together to create his body. Great work
Every time I listen to the song this is exactly what I envision the way it goes, especially when Poseidon shows the rage in his emotions moving closer to each word of "You are the worst because you're not even great", and when he says "a Greek who reeks with self righteousness that's what I hate* shows how irritated he is with each word. Absolutely fantastic work!
I really like your Poseidon design. You're probably gonna have the inevitable comparison with Anni and Gigi but yours is really cool. I like how sharp his features down to his facial hair is when its usually flowy like water and I like how his eyes deviate from the standard way to depict gods with just pure empty eyes. Also like how you show Odysseus looking at the bag right after he gets out of almost drowning and how his reaction to his men drowning is pretty delayed. He doesn't look horrified till they're all gone and its sunken in what Poseidon just did
It is a CRIME that it took me this long to find this masterpiece. I couldn’t stop fangirling over the shape language, compositions, expressions, the art style. Just the name a few of the things I LOVED about this. Absolutely phenomenal job definitely subbed.
Oh my god, the part near the end where he shifts his aim from Odysseus to the crew instead and they all get captured in those columns of waves was absolutely stunning!! Lovely and amazing work, I had chills the whole time
The way you make poseidon appear and disappear in the waves and how his form dissolves with the water goes so perfectly with the melody I'm obsessed with this animatic 😳😍
Your choice in artistic direction in this whole video is BEAUTIFUL and SO SO SO interesting!!! It makes me is so so curious as to what your storyboarding process looked like. Just so imaginative!!!! Thank you for sharing your hard work!
Wow, this is INCREDBILE! The way you depicted poseidon as one with the water was so rad, and really got across just how formidable he is. I can't get over how dynamic you made the environment as well, what a great use of the ocean as a foe. Ugh. One of my favorite animatics to this song to date.
Wow! I LOVE that you incorporated actual ice shattering for the lyrics "about to break the ice now" - I had a similar idea for that bit if I should I make a "Ruthlessness" animatic of my own, but who knows if that'll ever make it out beyond the confines of my murky mindscape ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyways, I love the amount of imagination you've shown in this animatic. None of the action or "camera angles" feel repetitive, and there's always something new and interesting happening between Poseidon and Odysseus' fleet. The water-ball move alone at 01:55 is something I've never thought of, and that's really saying something with how UNGODLY often I listen to this song. On top of that, though, your style is clean and bold and your characters are wonderfully expressive (especially our Big Bad, Poseidon). You've struck a brilliant balance between many competing factors, and I'm happy to say that you've earned yourself a new sub! ^-^ I can't wait to check out the rest of your work.
Eeyy - Thank you so much for watching and liking all those moments!! 🎉 Very kind words, and thanks for the sub - Looking forward to sharing more animatics (hopefully) soon!
There's so many amazing animatics out there, but artists just keep delivering new and fresh interpretations to these songs and I love it so much. I think this one is special because you really managed to make me feel the danger Odysseus and his men are in, you made Poseidon feel so BIG and POWERFUL, he is The God of Ocean and you can tell, in contrast Odysseus looks both terrified and small compared to him, like he knows he has no way to stop Poseidon and is at his mercy, the god can raise big walls of water and throw their ships around like if they were toys, he knows he fucked big time. I really liked that, the sense of danger, even if we know exactly when everything is going to hell you managed to build the tension until that one "Die" line and I loved it. I thinks it's really interesting too how you didn't only wait until that moment, I mean we see Odysseus save one of his men and also getting thrown into the water before that, the threat is constantly there against him and his men, they are standing against a force of nature and only waiting to see what he'll do. Also I appreciate you keeping the serious tone on the bag part, don't get me wrong I completely understand why artist make that moment funny and it's well justified because the line sounds funny, but since your whole animatic was so tense and painful for the protagonist I think it's just right he kept the serious expression when using his last resource to save himself and the few men he still has. There's also your beautiful artstyle, so pretty and expressive, I can't not mention it when praising this whole piece❤️ Thank you for taking time to create something so good.
Wow-- Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!! 🎉🎉🎉 There are indeed so many awesome Epic fan creators out there - Very honored you like this one too!! I definitely enjoyed planning out the storyboard and crafting Poseidon's character movements to make Odysseus feel completely outmatched, so I'm happy you enjoyed those elements! And yes, that last Ody line was tough to figure out, for the exact reason you listed. Since I wanted to keep that continuity, I tried to keep his expression very pained, to contrast the projected bravado in his tone. Looking forward to working on more animatics to share!
This is my favorite animatic! I love how you really captured the change of pace between really dramatic scenes to more calm ones. And I just love the close up of Poseidon’s eye on 1.03, I feel it really helps to emphasize the emotions of the vocals, and makes Poseidon more humane in a sense. And I love how you also included a moment were Odysseus finds the bag and prepares it for later a neat detail. And I also love how your frames give even more deep meaning to the lyrics, for example when Odysseus helps his crew mate and Poseidon tells him that he isn’t as good as he thinks, or the part of breaking ice. And you got really creative with the water! Shots inside the ocean and the last scene… chef kiss, they are on Poseidon’s domain, nowhere to run just plead. And beautiful expressions, how Poseidon isn’t always angry and Odysseus pain in the end. So good, I just loved it so much, you did an awesome work.
I was so ready for this after seeing the first part and you did not disappoint. I love the giant wall of waves forming a circle around the fleet, trapping them in and threatening them with this grandiose act of wrath, only for Poseidon to throw up those individual vortexes like he was harpooning the ships. Feels like he knew that bit of misdirection would make the actual moment he strikes stick out much more in Odysseus's mind until he finished him off.
Thank you so much for waiting for and watching the full version! 🎉 I enjoyed storyboarding those types of moments so I'm happy you enjoyed watching them too!
Oh my GODS, I love how you drew the waves forming him as he looms over the fleet and Odysseus, and how he turns to water after saying “ aren’t even great “ this entire animatic and the symbolism you put into this is AMAZING
the water is just gorgeous, oh my gods. and that part when we see them from up where they surrounded by water wall- amazing. beautiful. unbelievably cool. also poseidon, his design in general, his appearance, i cant describe my joy. and reflections. gods, this is my favorite animation of ruthlessnes now
This animation is so creative, I love how powerful Poseidon feels with his control over water, and little touches like him freezing the whirlpool into ice when he says "break the ice" in the song. Amazing work.
OMG I LOVE THIS ANIMATIC. LIKE POSEIDON ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE A GOD. like wow i mean other animatics are great but yours really makes me realise how little of a chance they have against a litteral god.
"All I have to do is open this bag", even if he'd thought of doing that before Poseidon attacked, he would have left the rest of his fleet behind, cause it would was only good to be used with him on the ship he was on, but this has to be one of my favorites of the EPICS.
omg this is so good !! the part where Poseidon brings up Odysseus in the water column and he falls back onto the ship is really creative ,this is so cool and you’re very talented :D
Woohoo! I have no words, you kept me in such suspense throughout the entire animation. I looked at a lot of works, but this one, my God! What cool angles, and Poseidon’s emotions and movements are just amazing, all those curves! I'm in love, this is the best Poseidon I've ever seen too good, good job :3
I love how he just summons his own boss arena with that giant wall of waves
Haha - Thanks, glad you liked!
the ocean just be one massive boss arena

Thank you, glad you did! 🌊🌊🌊
I love how Poseidon is constantly taking shape/falling apart into the waves again, looks awesome!
Thank you so much! 🌊🌊🌊
I know, it kind of adds that this is a god they're facing. Not another human, a monster, or whatever, but a powerful, vengeful god.
I agree that was so cool!!!!

IKR - This fandom is OP! Awesome song plus so many cool creators - Glad I could add to it and happy you enjoyed watching!! 🎉
I really like how the walls and tornadoes of water are so... unnatural... while still being wholly within the scope of the ocean.
Honestly, I love how Poseidon slowly lowers his trident from Odysseus' neck, only to aim it at the fleet instead. That was a powerful moment for me.
Thank you!! And I'm happy to hear that part was a powerful moment for you! 🌊🔱🌊
I love how Poseidon at 1:50 could have killed ody but he lets him live and in turn allowing ody to escape, ironically on the "you totally could have avoided all this had you just killed my son" line, amazing animatic deserves all the attention

Despite now facing the wrath of THE Sea God, the crew still did their best to help their captain. Which makes it more heartbreaking when Poseidon killed entire fleet, expect Odysseus main ship with only 43 left.

The way Odysseus looks at Posseidon when he turns his trident to the fleet!!! AAAHHHH, everything about this is great, you absolutelly nailed it!

This is probably the best Ruthlessness animatic I've seen so far-
I really love how he progressively killed them, starting with a few ships, then giving Ody a chance to explain himself, but when he turns his trident and Odysseus thinks he's letting them live, he actually sinks the rest of the fleet.
Eyyy - Thank you so much!! There are so many cool takes on this song, so I'm happy you enjoyed this one too!
Love the trident going from the neck to the rest of the fleet!
Thank you! 🎉
Thank you so much!! Very happy you enjoyed! 🙌 Also feeling very relieved I finished it, haha
I agree! The different shots in this were so well done and really conveyed just how powerful Poseidon is. There really was no chance for escape until after Poseidon attacked.
Each frame is a work of art...
Thank you so much!
this whole animatic looks like charcoal drawings and I'm obsessed
Thank you! I also like that charcoal aesthetic, haha
I am speachless. the wall of waves, the dramatic sass, the water transformation. THE RIPPLE!!! I love this soo much.
Thank you thank you!! 🎉
I love how you depict Poseidon as being either partially or fully made of water, like he's always connected to it to maintain control over it.
Thank you for watching and liking that design choice!! 🎉
I love how you portray Odysseus’ expressions during his ‘all I gotta do is open this bag’ line as desperate
Thank you so much!! 🎉
i love the face he makes 'thats what i hate" he looks more annoyed than anything, like odysseus is so beneath him he doesnt even get hate, just mild annoyance at having to come and deal with him.
Thank you for watching and liking that part! 🎉
There is so much personality oozing from Poseidon! Absolutely stellar character acting.
Thank you so much!! 🎉
AAAAAAAAA THIS IS SO SO GOOD I LOVE YOUR WET HADES DESIGN :DDD
AAA! Thank you!! Also, hahaha- "Wet Hades" 😂
ugh, i love how you made poisdeon look so inhumane in this animatic - the way he shifted and moved so fluidly around, really represented the unpredictable nature of the ocean
Thank you!! Glad to hear you had that reaction too - The ocean is indeed unpredictable!
Just- WOAH 😨 that was amazing!!
I remember watching part 1 and loving the water becoming the shark(fin) and then turning into Poseidon *and* the waves responding to his every move. And now that the whole thing is here- 😮 that was amazing- Incredible!
---
Some things I loved about this: (SPOILER WARNING)
- Poseidon constantly morphing with the water thought all of the animatic. He's everywhere, that terrifying. I already said that, but it blows me away every time I re-watch this.
- the shark consisting of actual water !! They're swimming with the shark, that is the ocean (that is Poseidon), they are in danger. 😅
- that one scene at 1:30 when Poseidon over leans over Odysseus, disappears and then reappears through the water. God the timing is brilliant there.
- the way the ocean split apart, help that's terrifying. I don't even have a fear of the ocean *but that would be horrifying.*
- the differences in Poseidon's height/size: the way he's all big and intimidating and terrifying at the beginning and then switches it up to slightly bigger than Odysseus and his crew when he gives him an "out" in the form of an apology. Yet he's still towering over them (he's still in power here).
- Poseidon pointing his trident at Odysseus while waiting for an apology, and when he didn't get one he simply pointed it at his crew and said "you had one job, you blew it. Now watch them pay the price for it."
- Odysseus' face as he realizes what's about to happen right before Poseidon kil|s his men (when the trident is pointed at the other ships).
- that same scene still ‼️ if I was hearing this song for the first time and seeing these visuals, I would've thought Poseidon would've let him go when he moved his trident away, too. And then be just as confused and horrified when he pointed it at the crew instead and said "di€"
- 3:16 this establishing shot >:000 everyone's getting slaughtered and that one ship is clearly shown to be unharmed as they're forced to watch.
- the way even the teardrop becomes a ripple that then shows Poseidon in the reflection as if to answer the question. (_"when does a ripple become a tidal wave?"_)
- 3:45 the subtile movement of the pupils ahhhh
- And lastly that ending 😮
Insane.
Thank you!! 🎉 Glad you liked the foreshadowing bit as well!
god the way you animated ALL the water was just GORGEOUS, the swirls. the shapes? the vortexes and splashes are so 😍
Thank you thank you!! 🌊🌊🌊
I am obsessed with this Poseidon design oh my GODDDDD I love how he is gigantic and almost mocking with his gestures rather than just pure rage. And oh my god the scene where the crew members’ hands reach out from the whirlpool is so chilling
Thank you so much for watching and enjoying the designs!! 🌊🌊🌊
I really, REALLY like this poseidon. The way he's one with the ocean is amazing. I especially like the bit where he's towering over Odysseus, poking him with his finger, and then his form collapses into a wave. So good.
Thank you for watching and liking this depiction of him!! 🌊🌊🔱
I've seen a lot of people being like Poseidon gets mad all the time. That's the thing though THIS STORY is what gave him that reputation.
Thank you so much!! 🎉 I enjoyed planning in those sections, so I'm glad you enjoyed watching it too!
One of the best animatics in how it handles Posiedon being the sea and having total control of it.
If one day epic gets animated, one can only hope that the animator team is at least as inspired and dedicated as the fans.
Thank you!! 🎉 I hope so too - it'd be amazing to see Epic fully animated!
You make him feel truly godly.
Thank you for thinking so!! 🎉
I love how much Poseidon slays in this! The shifting to waves is amazing!
Thank you so much!! 🌊🌊🌊
I AM SPEECHLESS
the waves, the fluidity, the sheer danger poseidon embodies as they are truly helpless in every sense
THE WALL OF WATER CAGING THEM IN
POSEIDON TOYING WITH THEM
THEN JUST KILLING THEM WITH THOSE PILLARS
DEVASTATING (i love how u drew the waves so much)
JUST OMG THIS IS SO GOOD
AAA- Thank you so much!! 🌊🌊🌊 Happy you enjoyed watching!
Being turned into mincemeat in a murderous water blender its really fucking scary
I love it
You achieve a nice sense of awe showing the humongous walls of water and Poseidon's figure standing out with his trident
Thank you so much! 🌊🌊🌊 Glad I could evoke those feelings!
I absolutely loved this. I love the effects of the water from when Poseidon shifts form.
Thank you so much!!
XD
THE WAY POSIDEON SWITCHES FROM WATER TO PHYSICAL FORM IS SO FLUID AND SO SO SO DAMN GOOD
Thank you so much for watching and liking that!! (And for the all caps energy!!) 🥳
i think this is my favorite poseidon design, the way he is made out of and becomes the water is sooooo satisfying
Thank you so much!! 🌊🔱🌊
Very nice!
Thank you for appreciating that design!! That beard in particular was something I saw on pottery depictions and wanted to enHANCE, haha 🎉
But dear lord, the sassy leaning at 2:32 👏 I live for that frame
And I ADORE how you depicted Poseidon's final destruction of the ships, it is so perfectly animated!
Thank you so much!! 🎉 I very much enjoyed crafting Poseidon's character movements, haha, so I'm glad you liked them too!
Omg this is perfect. I love the way Poseidon is toying with Odysseus. Especially when he tried to drown him!
AND THE WAY THEY STILL TRIED TO HELP HIM DESPITE POSEIDON BEING SCARY AS SHT 2:08 AWWWW (TOO BAD THEY'RE GONE 😭)
AND THE WHIRLPHOOL SCENE?!?! IT'S SO DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHERS AHH LOVE ITT
Eeey - Thank you so much for watching and liking those parts!! 🌊🌊🌊
The trident slowly pointing away from him to his fleet was such a great touch 🔱
Also love how the waves are so ridiculously high and literally formed together to create his body. Great work
Thank you so much!! 🔱🌊🌊
The way you decided to depict Poseidon destroying the ships and taunting Odysseus was super creative and stunning
Thank you so much!! 🎉
@@Tamathetamago you’re welcome 😊
I really like your Poseidon design. You're probably gonna have the inevitable comparison with Anni and Gigi but yours is really cool. I like how sharp his features down to his facial hair is when its usually flowy like water and I like how his eyes deviate from the standard way to depict gods with just pure empty eyes. Also like how you show Odysseus looking at the bag right after he gets out of almost drowning and how his reaction to his men drowning is pretty delayed. He doesn't look horrified till they're all gone and its sunken in what Poseidon just did
Both Anni Flamma and Gigi's characters are awesome too!! 🙌 Thank you for thinking that and watching!
my god the way you made poseidon just turning back into water is so amazing, him just moving around freely showing his power was just amazing omg
Thank you thank you!! 🎉
Love how ya started with the dramatic "ODYSSEUS OF ITHACA,...." 👌
Thank you for liking that addition!! 🎉
It is a CRIME that it took me this long to find this masterpiece. I couldn’t stop fangirling over the shape language, compositions, expressions, the art style. Just the name a few of the things I LOVED about this. Absolutely phenomenal job definitely subbed.
Eyy - Thank you so much for watching and enjoying! Not a crime, haha - Appreciate you finding me at all! 🌊🌊🌊
Oh my god, the part near the end where he shifts his aim from Odysseus to the crew instead and they all get captured in those columns of waves was absolutely stunning!! Lovely and amazing work, I had chills the whole time
Thank you so much for watching and liking it!! 🌊🌊🌊
3:24 THIS IS HAUNTING AND IT LOOKED LIKE THE HANDS IN THE UNDERWORLD!
HEHE - Thank you! 🌊🌊🌊 Very much wanted to foreshadow scenes I had thought of for Underworld (if I ever get there, haha)!!
the amount of personality and movement that you put into the water itself is incredible, especially in that underwater scene !!!
Eeyy - Thank you so much!! 🌊🌊🌊
1:03 😮
1:37 😮
1:41 😮
2:27 😮😮😮
3:15 holy shit! 🫣🫢
3:47 😢
4:04 the reflection of Odysseus's face on the Triton😮❤
😂🤩🥳 Haha, thank you for the emoji-tastic timestamps!
Also 3:32 my face was a match for the guy besides Odysseus.
The way you make poseidon appear and disappear in the waves and how his form dissolves with the water goes so perfectly with the melody I'm obsessed with this animatic 😳😍
Eeyy - Thank you so much for watching and enjoying it!! 🌊🌊🌊
There are some really awesome ideas in here! I'd love to see this as a fully animated music video. With color and the whole 20 fps. Great work!
Thank you so much!! 🎉 Haha, agreed - that would be pretty cool to see indeed!
i love how at 4:03 you can see ody's reflection in the trident. idk why but its such a nice detail
Thank you for liking that part!! 🔱
This is so amazing! Thank you for making it! I love how much of a drama queen Poseidon looks like here, it's all so good!
Thank you so much!! And haha, yes, my depiction of him ended up very drama-queen-y 😂
AAA - Thank you so much!! 🌊🌊🌊
The complete cease of active destruction with the sudden silence, leaving him with the slow destruction of the mind... *chef kiss*
Thank you so much for liking that moment! 🌊🌊🌊
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT MY MAN POSEIDON IS AN ABSOLUTE DRAMA QUEEN? I mean look ad the first minute, He slays so good he kill men fr
😂 Thank you for liking my interpretation of Poseidon!! 🎉
It’s so brilliant how you combined the “break the ice” line with his waterbending sequence.
Wow! I LOVE that you incorporated actual ice shattering for the lyrics "about to break the ice now" - I had a similar idea for that bit if I should I make a "Ruthlessness" animatic of my own, but who knows if that'll ever make it out beyond the confines of my murky mindscape ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyways, I love the amount of imagination you've shown in this animatic.
I love how you drew the water. It all works so beautifully together.
Oh woah! Thank you so much for liking all those parts!! I enjoyed planning those moments, so I'm glad you enjoyed watching them too! 🎉
That Poseidon got the disney Hades sass and I'm all here for it!
Eyy, glad you are! And thank you! Disney Hades sass is very inspirational, haha 🔥
All of the animatics of this song have been amazing, but I like this version the most :D
Oh my GODS, I love how you drew the waves forming him as he looms over the fleet and Odysseus, and how he turns to water after saying “ aren’t even great “ this entire animatic and the symbolism you put into this is AMAZING
Thank you so much!! 🌊🌊🌊
the water is just gorgeous, oh my gods. and that part when we see them from up where they surrounded by water wall- amazing. beautiful. unbelievably cool. also poseidon, his design in general, his appearance, i cant describe my joy. and reflections. gods, this is my favorite animation of ruthlessnes now
Thank you so much!! 🎉 Super appreciate you watching and liking it all!!
Oh my goooooood. The forms the water takes (giant wall, pillars breaking ships apart, Poseidon dissolving) was so very well done and inspired. WOW
3:13 FINALLY someone who has poesdio throw the ships in the air with his water
Thank you, and glad you liked that moment! 🌊🌊🌊
GOD This was so cool its legit one of my favourite of ruthlessness!
I would LOVE to see how you would animate thunder bringer or god games because of how creatively you show Poseidon
Thank you!! I do have plans to do a small snippet of Thunderbringer in the future, so stay tuned!🎉
Thank you so much for thinking so!!🌊🌊🌊
The water following Posiedon's every movement is a great addition showing his control of the seas.
Thank you for thinking so!! 🌊🌊🌊
"All I have to do is open this bag", even if he'd thought of doing that before Poseidon attacked, he would have left the rest of his fleet behind, cause it would was only good to be used with him on the ship he was on, but this has to be one of my favorites of the EPICS.
I love how he keeps melting into the waves and back again, it's so cool?
Thank you!! 🌊🌊🌊
omg this is so good !! the part where Poseidon brings up Odysseus in the water column and he falls back onto the ship is really creative ,this is so cool and you’re very talented :D
Thank you thank you!
I love how powerful your Poseidon looks, the feats that it shows, killing everyone with tornadoes is just awesome.
Congrats for this amazing animatic
This is by far the best illustration I've seen yet!! I can only imagine how amazing it would look fully animated❤
Thank you!! 🙌 That'd be cool to see too, haha
Woohoo! I have no words, you kept me in such suspense throughout the entire animation. I looked at a lot of works, but this one, my God! What cool angles, and Poseidon’s emotions and movements are just amazing, all those curves! I'm in love, this is the best Poseidon I've ever seen
too good, good job :3
Eyy - Thank you so much for liking this version!! 🌊🌊🌊
I love the concept of Poseidon melting into water instead of rising and lowering
Thank you!! 🌊🌊🌊
