- Moana 2 just got announced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. This follows in the footsteps of other Disney sequels Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2, along with Disney Pixar sequels Toy Story 5 and Inside Out 2. Why is Moana getting a sequel, though? Do we really need more of this story?

I doubt it will be as bad as Mulan because they're having at least Dwayne Johnson playing the live action character. From what it sounds it might be one of the most accurate live-action remakes Disney has made.

I suppose it was only a matter of time, with how fantastic the original was. Honestly, I didn't think it needs a sequel. I could see this working great if they do it right. But without Lin Manuel composing the music, I'm not sure it can. Either way, Schaffrillas is going to be all over it, and I can't wait for that.

I saw Moana and about a month later I got into Hamilton. Not having Lin is a bummer.
To make matters worse, they’re hiring some pop song writers to do the music, just like what happened with Wish. At least something as mid as Frozen 2 still had some bangers in there, but now, it seems even the music has gone downhill. 😔

Hopefully, they’ll do something similar like frozen two the music wasn’t bad but it definitely wasn’t good.

Could you Imagine if Disney Delayed Soul, Luca, Turning Red during the pandemic and got full theatrical releases and were critically and financially Successful, maybe they would also prove to studios that ORIGINAL Animated movies are still successful and not just focus on Sequels or Adaptations such as Super Mario Bros. Movie and Across the Spider-Verse. (also looking at you Paramount.)

Actually Monsters University doesn’t count as Monsters Inc 2, its just based on how Mike and Sully met! Pixar was originally gonna make a Monster’s Inc 2 but they scrapped it! The plot was thag Mike and Sully went to the human world to give a present to Boo, and they got trapped in the human world, so now they have to get out and back to their home, which is the monster world! And that was scrapped sadly!

i think a better story would be one taking place far in the future, where the ocean chooses a new champion, and they have to stop a world-ending calamity caused by warring gods. instead of it leeching off an established character that is known to be successful, it should try a new concept, with a new viewpoint.

I Actually think that a sequel works better than a show, as Moana has way more world building that just wouldn’t feel like a good fit for a show. For Tangeled and Big Hero 6, they just stayed in their respective settings, but for Moana, there’s a lot of seafaring and sailing that would make more sense than a show.

Atlantis was also supposed to have a TV series following the 2001 film but it was scrapped after the film underperformed. So they mashed together concepts from the show and made the 2003 sequel “Milo’s Return”.

I loved moana so much as a kif, probably too much, as I pretty much had the entire script memorized (not anymore though), and I listened to the songs a lot. As a kid, I would probably be super excited that moana is getting a sequel, but since I'm older, and wish was disney's last movie, I'm not excited. I have really low expectations that the movie will be good. The sequel will never live up to the amazing movie that was moana.
Also not returning are John Musker and Ron Clements: THE ORIGINAL DIRECTORS who are also legendary directors at Disney, having also made Great Mouse Detective, Little Mernaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet and Princess and the Frog.

I find it surprising how even in the 2000s Disney still continued to make original animated films despite all the flops and critical failures
I honestly don’t really mind about sequels. I don’t think they’ll be like the majority of the direct to DVD sequels Disney made during the 1990's and 2000's, which most of them felt much more like spinoffs than actual continuations.

Hopeful for a hit this time. Much of what disney put out last decade wasn't a smash hit either. Notable exceptions were Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, and if course the og Moana. I'd like to think not stuffing a sequel to the brim with product placement will make it good but we'll just have to see

My question is what is the state of the live action remake. They just announced that it’ll be coming out in 2025. And this sequel will either come out before (or even worse) after the live action remake. So I have no idea what the plan is here.

And just as everybody was yelling from the mountaintops that DreamWorks was entering a new golden age because of The Last Wish they then proceeded to release Ruby Gillman, bringing us all the way back down to humbling, soul-crushing reality.
That's just how DreamWorks is, they either release peak fiction or peak feces at any given time with little inbetween.

Ignoring the fact that Disney (Disney not Pixar) has announced 3 new sequels in the past couple months, they have much less sequels than most animation companies. Disney’s known for being a cash grab company, but they aren’t known for shoveling out sequels. Yet.

Well my first question when I heard Moana 2 was coming out was “Are they going to make her gay?” But after doing a bit of research, I found rumors that Moana might actually be Transgender. And even though a Disney Spokeperson denied the claim. I’m not putting this garbage past Disney. Something tells me either the rumors are true and Disney is trying to hide this dirty secret or they’re going to have to majorly rework the *entire* story of the film.

Disney hasn't released one in a couple years and their most recent ones were great.
Toy Story 2 reached a billion dollars and won the Oscar for Best Animated film.
And Frozen 2 literally became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
Sequels are fire, more characters and more character development! I know it's not a popular sequel, but I think people seriously overlook Cars 3. Lightning worried that the same thing that happened to Doc is going to happen to him, until Smokey opens his eyes and shows him that training Lightning was the best part of Doc's life.

Unfortunately it's sad that films at Disney Animation are dead after the failure of wish they don't have no choice than to move on with franchises instead of creating new stories I thought that the next Walt Disney Animation Studios film would be the adaptation of The Princess and the Pea Penelope or returning to hand-drawn with Bluebeard and after Moana 2 we will have zootopia 2 Follow by Frozen 3 Disney should learn their mistakes from wish so Penelope and Bluebeard great Classics in box office success but no unfortunately Disney will go for the Safeway where they don't have no ways of failures everyone has to take risk to be successful play saved it's no longer profitable anymore
