I always love your videos!! ❤️ This is so helpful as we gear up to start medieval history soon! Are you reading CC to all your kids? How do the younger ones do? We’re currently using CC with my 8yo and we love it, but I’d like to move towards more of family style of learning and do history with everyone. But I’m nervous because I’ve heard that CC medieval history is much longer and denser than ancient. I debated about trying SOTW, but I prefer the worldview from CC… Do you feel that CC works as a family subject? Thank you!!!!
We actually use the audio version that comes with it and it does work well as a family subject. My little ones are present, but not really paying attention yet. I don't find the lessons too long, but if you do, you could try breaking lessons up into several days.
I do. The chapters are longer and it is dialogue format, which I didn't think I would like at first, but I actually do. It comes with a digital audio version, which I use. I read along and pause for the kids to narrate. I find it to be more inclusive of the entire world, and I prefer to use curriculum that is not from a Christian viewpoint for our homeschool.
How do you think curiosity chronicles compare to story of the world? We are looking to do a unit study for about 4-8 weeks I have heard SOW treats Muslims unfairly, and although we are Christian we have very close Muslim friends.
I would agree. It is subtle - the perspectives the story is told from and the language used - but I do think that SOTW does have a Christian bias. That is one of the reasons we switched to Curiosity Chronicles and we really like it. I think it does a better job using neutral language and telling the story from different perspectives. It does not paint any group of people or religion as being better than another. The one thing I would note is it does have a different format. Story of the World is written as a story and Curiosity Chronicles is written as dialouge. I was worried we wouldnt like it as much, but we do! Especially with the free audio format.
So many great resources, thank you!!
You're so welcome! 😀
