I agree. I was at a Pantera concert. This overweight guy with blue hair came came up and gave me a purple sticker that said After Show. And said see you after the show. I looked at it and said "Sure ok buddy" gave him the thumbs up. I thought it was a joke. Concert ended it was announced those with the purple passes line up over here your gonna meet the band . Turned out the guy was for real he was the tour manager. We talked and had a good laugh.
The story the song tells is so real, kids just waiting around for an inheritance while the elderly parent/s are lonely, strangers show the parent friendship, care and even fun.
I met him when he was starting to get big, and he was a prick. Later found out he was going through an awful lot of personal issues. Respect him and his career for what he's overcome. Still respect his music and him because we're all human and go through shit.
Yeah. If you meet someone famous and they seem like a prick, give them the benefit of doubt because they are human and have bad days just like everyone else.
The reason I say he was a prick was because he was hammered drunk during the meet and greet, was grabbing girls asses when pictures were being taken, and didn't talk to any guy who wanted to say hey. Like I said, I get it, but it was during a shit time in his life with alcohol and womanizing.
@@zacklaws6551 My comments were based upon meeting him in 2003 or 2004 when he collabed with Shania Twain. He got a big head and was absolutely a prick. He got too big for his britches at the time with fast fame. My comment above explains. Im past it and in my original comment commend him for overcoming addiction and still appreciate his artistry
My favorite part is that the old man was his friend's father, and they were very close. Also, the old man really died two years after filming the video, from smoking cigarettes as he predicted.
As a female, I love talking with and hanging out with the "older" guys. They have the best stories and they are waaaayyyy more the gentleman then the majority of guys today. Even my daughter says she would rather hang out with men her grandfather's age than any her age ... she even "gets" them and thinks they are the coolest.
It’s a shame that so many guys, particularly guys my age, their early 20s-around their 30s, aren’t gentlemen, my parents, more so my mom, always taught me to treat women with respect and I try my best to be as much of a gentleman as possible. Some girls don’t seem to appreciate that though which sucks but I stay true to myself.
I feel that the statements made illustrate the point of the song. God is good, beer is great, and "people are crazy". The fact that an old man connected better with a stranger in an afternoon of drinking than his own family seems to be the modern view of our lack of connect, and for him to leave his fortune to that stranger seems about how things now work
People are insane crazy doesn't even cover it... My brother's name is Billy he has my back i have the best big brother ever i am a lucky girl for sure.Awesome reaction love to you from Memphis Tn.
Yea I'm sure it never happened lol. Some songwriter came up with it and pitched it to him. That's the thing with most county music - more often than not the singer didn't actually write the song

I love this song. I have random conversations with people like this often but none have left me mountains of money. The stories have definitely been worth the time :-)
Awesome song. Billy was born and raised less then a mile from me. The old man in the video is James Day I grew up with his daughter and sons they owned a big roofing company in my hometown of Rincon Georgia. Spent many of summers fishing and hanging out on the sandbars partying with him. Mr. James was a wise ole man got my ass tore up a time or two by him he was a awesome soul. He past away a few years back. And we still get together and play this song and remember all the good times we had growing up. Gone but never will be forgotten
My grandpa and I listened to this when I was growing up, all the time, this was our song, he passed away in 2018 and every time I ride the trails by the family cemetery I stop by and play it on my guitar, ride high grandpa, someday we'll be together riding those Harley's through those streets of gold
I absolutely love this song and was so glad to see this on your reaction videos. I’ve always taken this as a message that you never know the impact you can have on someone’s life just by giving them just a little of your time, someone to talk to. It costs you nothing, but it could mean the world to them. The money was just an added anecdote, not the main message.
This song brings to mind an old urban legend: Two traveling salesmen and best friends, we'll call them fred and George, stopped for the night at a bed and breakfast. Fred noticed George was hitting it off well with the widow who ran the place so he turned in early. 6 months later, fred gets a letter in the mail from a lawyer. He calls George and asks "When you were with that widow, did you give her my name?" George admits that he did. Fred then says, "Well I guess I should thank you. She just passed away and left me $100k in her will. " Please review Brett Eldredge "She calls me Raymond " sometime.
Story behind the song "decided think of three things you can't argue with, and I came up with "God is great; beer is good; people are crazy." I went back to the house, got my guitar and ended up writing several lines that wound up being the first verse of the song. I knew I had my first writing session with Bobby that next week, so I held onto the lyrics and melody to play it for him. I was a little nervous to write with him, because he's such a legendary songwriter. I played him what I had, and he said, "Man, I love it." It was Bobby's idea to make the guy rich and leave all his money to the kid he's talking to in the song instead of his own kids. I wasn't too sure about that idea, but I figured if you can't trust Bobby with your song, who can you trust? "
I knew a guy in FL named Ed and he lived in a single wide. No air conditioner. In FL!!! He ran a scrap metal business. He was super cool. He and I used to sit out and drink vodka. He had no kids or ex. He once showed me his safe. He and I counted 4 million dollars over the course of a few weeks. RIP, Ed. I never knew happened to him but his trailer was just empty one day.
This song is perfect with me rn I’m 21 and I had a badddd asssss old my as a great friend and he just past away and he felt the same way “god is great beer is good and he thinks people are crazy” man I miss that old man I wish I could have one more conversation with him but rest easy ole man
What i loved was the old man gave a stranger who just had a normal conversation a lot of money because his kids never took the time and thought that they would get all the dad;s money and just ignored the dad but guess what they didn't. Take the time to know and talk to people cause that may just make that persons day and give hem hope that someone cares.
I feel like it might have been one of those things where the old mans kids didn't call or check up on him often so when he had a nice long conversation with someone finally he wanted to do something nice for them in return.
Ayy Billy your reactions are priceless I must of replayed this a cool 20 or more times especially when billy currington said front page obituary sad but Billy's reaction got me and me I'm doing well ahhhhhh man I was crying 🤣🤣🤣🤣 keep it billy God bless you
Billy Currington is from a small town here in Ga. and so is the old man. He is the father of one of Billys Childhood friends and is also deceased now . Pretty sure his family got his inheritance..😀
It just shows his family didn't care about him they just wanted his money. But a stranger came along spent a little time with him made him happy and got rewarded
Chris Ledoux is the BEST country artist ever. You wont go wrong with any of his songs. His "Blue and Freckles" is one of my favorites. That and "2 in a million"

I know someone that something similar happened to. He showed kindness to an old man that had no family. The old man left him money and property well in excess of a million dollars. You know some people do win the lottery. Wish it could be me.
WHEN I WAS IN PRE K ALL WE LISTENED TO IN THE CAR WAS COUNTRY MUSIC AND I WENT TO A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL AND THEY ASKED ME TO SAY THE BLESSING AND I SAID “GOD IS GREAT BEER IS GOOD AND PEOPLE ARE CRAZY” 😂😂😂
I like many forms of music. My opinion for what it's worth (lol) is that most country songs tell some of the most interesting stories. Thanks for another reaction video.
Sometimes older people who are well to do, make the decision to leave someone their earthly goods when they die, simply because that person made time for them, treated them like they mattered. All too often you hear stories of kids growing up with money and when their parents or grandparents that made that lifestyle possible for them, are older and need them to be there for them, someone just to talk to or comfort them, give them a little bit of their time, the kids or grandkids are nowhere to be found. In this song, the old man found what he needed in a stranger, and felt compelled to reward him in his own way, for caring about others.
Sorry Billy you so crazy but I wanted to thank you all so you got me through all bad times with your videos and it means the world to me I was on the verge of suicide but you brought me through with your videos do what you do best and you're awesome and more
It is a commentary on keeping in touch with family. When a stranger spends more time with you than your own kids, they deserve to lose everything!
I agree
I was gonna say similar. A old guy I knew said he wasn't making a will for his sorry ass kids. He gonna enjoy them fighting over it.
just shows you that you never know who you will meet. treat everyone decently. treat the janitor like you would treat a famous person
i wouldn’t give a shit about a famous person, unless i liked them but then i would still act casual.
Philip H unless it was some some I look up to then I wouldn’t give a shit.
Idc if you are marshal Mathers I'm still an asshole to you

The old man said that he fought two wars. That is important. It seems to go above most folks minds.

I kinda saw some foreshadowing there when the old man lit a cigarette and said, “one day these things‘ll kill me “. Hinting at lung cancer maybe?
