  • In this video, we take a casual approach to exploring the differences between soldering and using wire glue! Will it perform how it says it will? is it a soldering iron in a jar? Let's find out and test something cool =)

CORRECTION: the screw driver set is NOT magnetic! The bits just have a snug fit.

I'm 32, and have been soldering from when I was 9 or 10. I've always just soldered in my room, no fans going, no masks. Granted, my room is fairly large, but the only thing that you're exposed to is fumes from flux. These fumes can cause issues if enough is breathed it, but with the amount you are soldering, it isn't really a concern.
For insulating tape, go with the magic wrap tape. It is self adhesive and stretches, so it is easy to get a tight wrap around connections.

@@JoshuaHuntsWorld That's understandable. If I were soldering for work, 8 hours a day, I'd likely use protection or more ventilation

Ever since I turned 48. I have had issues with fumes from anything lately. A solder fumes extractor on special from an electronics store is cheap. All the years of chemicals and the fumes? I had to buy one. Cheers from Australia 👍

I've been doing electronics for 60 years, and I stopped using electrical tape decades ago. Heat-shrink is what I use. There is also a stretch tape that conforms to the shape of what it's placed on that I like for outdoor cable connector protection.
I would squeeze out a bead of that stuff to see how much resistance it had once dry. Your pedal only draws milli-amps, so a glue with a high resistance would still work.

For the pedal you'd need to glue the wires to some cardboard and then the cardboard also to the PCB, but with enough slack to connect the wires. Then soak the cardboard in super glue. And then hope it all works because it is not coming apart cleanly again.

Great informational video! I had never heard of wire glue. I think I will keep some in case of emergency in a travel bag. For your camera, I used to film painting miniatures using a camera mounted on a mic arm, I could move it to wherever it needed to be, even a top down shot. It would depend on the weight of your camera though. Keep up the great work!

I bet this is for Larger scale joints in which you don't have access to a large soldering iron that can do the job.

It's also handy to have some older fashioned 60/40 solder (tin and lead) with resin core for repairing of devives that have that as the solder instead of the ever more increasing Sn/Ag/Cu with The Sn in the order of 98-99 percent alloy not adjusted for a resin core. The two different solders (alloys) do not pleasantly flow and work together well is my experience. Portable battery soldering irons have become quite decently affordable too these last few years. Dont buy the one from the brand Ferm at for example Aldi supermarkets that has an usb-c charge port; it is simple to under powered for even the lowest melting point alloys and merely the wires and amount of copper metal just doest allow the tiny area to become hot enough to do soldering. But several others I tested worked just as good as the one with the cord.
When ordering such niche conductive adhesive just really pay close attention on the contents; how is it made'what materials are in there etc. The conductive filler materials or even there's polmers that are conductive themselves in there too.
    Greetings.

The glue might be better for splicing 2 wires together. But now they have solder heat shrink splices that you only need some hot air to melt also. I thiwilI will keep my soldering iron and heat shrink splicers for now. But I could see the glue might have some use cases, maybe for larger area connections. Maybe it could be used to glue 2 copper plates together that need to be electricity connected. Just my thoughts.

In the 30+ years I have been using a soldering iron and even the years I worked along side other people using soldering irons I have never seen anybody wear a respirator while using one... up until very recently I'd never even seen an extraction filter in the flesh. I was taught to solder in high school and studied electronics at uni nobody ever wore respirators in either of those situations... If your using heavy RA flux a little fan is nice to clear the smoke but a respirator?!?

    • @JoshuaHuntsWorld
      @JoshuaHuntsWorld  3 дня назад

Hmmm I may be allergic to flux then. When I don’t use a mask I experience symptoms very similar to asthma and in prolonged sessions in the past I would experience light headedness and nausea. I started using a respirator after a particularly bad reaction. But it seems I may be the outlier in this regard. Thank you for the insight.

I had made my own DIY induction soldering iron with IRF44ZN mosfets, n4007 diodes, some resistors, inductances, push button, charging module and thick cooper wire operated with a 3S2P 18650 battery pack with BMS that fits in my pocket, have fast charge and is as reliable as a weller pistol soldering iron, I can try Wire Glue but wait 45 minutes for something that takes me 5 to 10 minutes although if it works on heat sensitive places can be great to have it, I always carry tools and maybe i can give a chance to this new thing to be in my tool box. note: for the soldering iron fumes you can use a pc cooler fan pull it away

I think just the tape would have been enough for fixing the battery contact on the pedal or at least good enough to get you through a gig. A better solution then this glue would be one of those soldering irons which are just a soldering iron tip screwed into a vape battery. You could fix both pedals with that.
