  • Open wekend at the private Stapleford Park Miniature Railway. A really nice weekend with lots to see, not just the trains. Farm machinery, tractors, steam engines, vintage cars. military vehicles etc. Plus the railway, with its long picturesque 15-minute journey.
    The video ends with an unedited single-shot record of the entire journey on the railway. Enjoy!

    By far the best 10 1/4" inch gauge in the UK that I've seen.
    They've really done an excellent job there and it looks the part too. 👍

      It's 40 years since I left the hobby for something I'd build a career out of (computers) but I've been glad to find out these last few years that modelling is as popular as ever.

    Definitely has its charm, plus I like the combo between UK and US motive power. The 752 is really well done, bringing all the awesome of a Nickel Plate Berkshire... in pint size. :D
    It would've been flawless if it had those flanking number boards next to the bell, though. Shoudln't be too hard to make them, and they don't have to be lighted as long as they get the general shape right. :)

    What an enjoyable experience. I live in Oregon, in the U.S., and we have a similar location in the town of Brooks, called Antique Powerland. They hold a similar open weekend each summer that includes antique vehicle displays and a parade of antique tractors. The complex includes a miniature railway and also a full-size rail museum, the Oregon Electric Railway Museum, that includes a wide variety of antique city trams and interurban trolleys. The museum offers tram rides on its loop around the complex.

    HI what a great video Martin Glad you enjoyed it.
    In answer to the comments this is at Stapleford Railway near Melton Mowbray Leics LE14 2SF The line is just under 2 miles total as we run on a balloon loop around the lake returning up the bank and through the tunnel. We carry about 50 passengers on 9 coaches which needs double heading with smaller locos or the big Americans can handle themselves. Those two were built at Stapleford in 1971 for NKP Berks and and 1997 NYC Niagara.
    Track is 10 1/4" and scale is about 1/5th
    We only open twice a year at the moment 2018 dates are Sat sun June 9th 10th and three day August BH 25-27th August Sat-BH Monday
    Thanks Nigel Press officer for the railway

    • @martinedwards999
      @martinedwards999  7 лет назад +1

      You're welcome, Terry. I can only take partial credit for the steady camera work, not wanting to haul along a tripod in 29C temperatures! I used a stability filter a lot when editing, though it helps to have good footage in a bright sunny day to start with (the ride on the train was a hand-held shot that I didn't stabilise, edit or enhance, so I hope it turned out OK).
      Stapleford Park is just outside Melton Mowbray. They open twice a year, the main event being over the August bank holiday weekend. Quite a unique event, and ony £3 to charity for entry, and the same again for train rides.

    • @TerryMcGearyScotland
      @TerryMcGearyScotland 7 лет назад +1

      Martin Edwards The shots from the train I had noticed were particularly good. I liked the shafts of light through the branches and smoke👍I googled it. Very good value and for a charity too. I bet people were generous.

    Less and less of these events nowdays, due to soaring public liability costs. To run an event like this now where I live ( Australia), is almost impossible. No company will insure you, and if they do, the cost is phenomenal. The only other option is to ensure every person attending signs a waiver and accepts all risk themselves. All this by design of course, to keep children obese and in front of the black screen.

    It saddens and annoys me in equal measure when somebody models a set of fairground rides. They are meticulous in the detail and committment in the quality of build, but they usually fall down quite badly in one thing that makes all their efforts look ridiculous. The rides are usually far too fast for their scale. In one shot in this video, a set of gallopers isn`t turning, it`s spinning at a speed that would impose G forces comparable to those felt by a fighter pilot in a tight turn. Why can`t modellers sort out the gearing on the rides before they show their works of love to the public ?

    • @martinedwards999
      @martinedwards999  6 лет назад +1

      Hi there. Each to their own I guess, at a public event like this with lots of kids I don't know how rides at scale speed would go down...

    • @MrHeesbeen
      @MrHeesbeen 6 лет назад +1

      I think that adults have more interest and appreciation of the craftsmanship than the children Martin, coupled with the fact, that the children will never have seen the full sized ride but their parents will have.
