It is the most widely known 'black key' among Chopin Etude. The cheerful and clear melody is impressive and addictive. It's so nice to hear Pollini's clean interpretation. It's so beautiful.
I love this etude. It is youthful, proud, boastful, joyful, and athletic. It has an boundless optimism that renders one hope. That's it. It means hope!
This has always been my favorite Chopin etude of them all to play. Most of them leave my standard repertoire after learning them, but this and a few others stayed over the years.
I hate moments like at 1:00!! The melody is so delicate and beautiful, absolutely my favorite moment in the piece……. And it lasts for 4 bars and only appears once 😭😭😭😭
I really dislike lang lang... Really overrated and his playing doesn't fit Chopin's work at all. I really don't understand his popularity. Maybe people became dumber?
Vincent he is famous bc of his technical skills, his hands r very fast and he has emotion WHILE his techical skills are good so he is famous. There are people who dislike him but this is what I think :)
@YSFmemories It's not always the easiest part >.< My girlfriend is an amazing pianist and probably could play the bulk of this up to tempo, but when it gets to any big chords or octaves, her hands are just incredibly small and can't reach. For her, the octaves would be the hardest part, and that might be what Chopin096 is experiencing as well.
This version reveals that it is just impossible to play the octaves at the end in the markes tempo : even Pollini has to arrange it and play it slower !
@YSFmemories was that long explanation good enough "mere mortal" cause guess what? Even prodigies, are just mere mortals. They just got genetically given gifts, and also they put in effort, that's it. They're lucky to get those gifts, but the thing is, any prodigy can beat "mere mortals," if they put in effort, and any "mere mortals" can beat a prodigy, if they put in effort.
@YSFmemories And even if you have a talent for the thing, it's still hard. Talents are passed down genetically, but to use those talents, you also have to work like other kids. Sure, the talent gives you a boost in certain ways, like an early start, or fast understanding, but for the parts your talent does not give, you're worse then a "mere mortal"
@christianchoi1 Do you even know what full speed is? If you've played it at full speed, I'll be glad to hear. Sure, perhaps, just perhaps, there might be some pianists who can play it at full speed. But for the rest of us mere mortals, it is a very difficult task. And for casual pianists like myself who like to learn pieces of music but are not good enough to achieve perfection, playing the octaves at a "good enough" speed is much simpler than the rest of the piece.
@Chopin096 Trust me, that is like the easiest part of this etude =/ (granted since it's a given you won't be able to play it full speed, you won't even try, otherwise it is impossibly hard)
@audreyhsux5727 my mom can make another, but she's too lazy. So much for being a computer genius, she can't make a converter that always videos longer then 3 minutes, but then again, chopin's etude isn't that long, then again, she's too lazy
@YSFmemories Oh and another thing, I HATE GIVING OPINIONS. That's my opinion. I use things from evidence, or scientifically proven facts, but, unless it's necessary, I hate giving opinions.
@audreyhsux5727 and even if I'm sub prod, I was actually bad at everything when I was younger. My family line on both side are intelligent, and on one side we're physically talented. But for me, all those genes, dominant, recessive, auto-somal, sex-linked, whatever hocus pocus, never really kicked in till 20...10, they never kicked in till 2010
@audreyhsux5727 ...I also have a very bad case of becoming nervous around unknown ppl without someone I know right next to me, being in front of public, etc. I forgot which phobia it was. I literally tracked down websites to find my phobia and i have around 50 0.0...btw, are you a girl...sorry if this is off topic, you just sound a little creepy
@YSFmemories -.-" be quiet. I know the difference between a song and a piece. I just don't have good grammar since I started english late, and forgot too much of my native language. A "good enough" speed is not good at all, you have to play the same tempo throughout the whole piece. Sure, there are stuff like piano, forte, accel., rit., etc., but you still have to have the tempo in there. The speed, my piano teacher, who's sub-prodigy, can play, and even she has a hard time.

Listen to Rubinstein or Zimerman with this Etude and you'll discover this Etude new. They play it so much more logical (as one user put it - voices more separately) and more musically. Sorry, Pollini as good as you are you found your masters! xD
@christianchoi1 "I learned this song before, and I learned many other songs" That alone is enough to discredit the rest of your argument. If you don't even know the difference between a song and a piece, I don't think any of your expert musical advice has any weight. Calling others an idiot because your opinion differs does not make you a genius. If you're even having trouble finding the right notes for simple octaves, you probably aren't at the level to play this.
Cowgoesmoo2 there is a huge gap difference between entertainer and an artist. Lang Lang isn't a complete artist-half breed-half entertainer, half artist. You might have a different opinion on that, and I respect it. And... Playing the etude with an orange is a complete show off with no aesthetic beauty what so ever. It was entertaining, but at the cost of the music, of Chopin. That is why it is a disgrace.
+Li Kevin I don't understand the hate for his orange performance. He was clearly just having fun and showing the more joking side to playing a Chopin etude; it wasn't a musical performance, but rather, a comedic one. It did not "cost the music" in any way, which is exactly what I don't understand at all. The purpose was to entertain, and he entertained us, so there is no disgrace there. It also had some resemblance to the actual piece, putting an even more entertaining aspect to it.
+Li Kevin Though I agree with you, who cares? Let people experiment in their own way. If you don't like something, don't watch it instead of acting like they've commited a crime. (The biggest problem with the classical music community is conservatism. Just look at history... Sure, doesn't mean that you have to like everything new, but being open can really do you good.)

Chopin was the Einstein of music. Every note is perfect.
Amazing talent, his fingers are skimming across the piano and his notes are like a river flowing down a stream

Indeed.
